I’ve got a set as well, can confirm they really are a beautiful set. Some of my fav films were shot with them as well, which isn’t a necessity, but does give them a little extra in the cool factor.
how am i only now just finding this (and the podcast). wow.
SO good!! Thanks! Saludos desde Argentina!
Do you have an ep on renting your gear? Looking to find nitty gritty details on how to ensure no loss etc.
Are you also using a BPM filter here?
Hi Patrick, why do you say the Mk1 is dog shit? Is it because of the aperture ring not being 0.8 or, and the 180 degree focus rotation? The glass should be exactly the same, right?
All the best from Morten, Denmark
The lenses are much smaller, designed for turret cameras, with butterfly wings for focusing and are often Arri-S mount, which can be a little more of a pain to adapt than Arri-B. Optically the lenses are great and are in fact used in some front anamorphic solutions. The mechanics, like Cooke Speed Panchros are from a very different time and can be a pain on a modern set. For owner operators who want the Zeiss look... not a bad option.
@@flyingfox2005 I don't think these old ones are the Mk1 he mentions. The Arri-S mount is called B-speeds according to this article: thecinelens.com/2016/08/24/whats-in-a-name-a-guide-to-zeiss-super-speeds/ there is a Mk1 which is from the 80s which has the PL-mount. I know its Super Speeds in that article and not Standard Speeds, but I guess they kinda follow each other.
@@mortenvilhelm5555 the link you've posted up is about Zeiss Super Speeds, not the Standard Speeds.
B-speeds was the name for the high speed lenses, now called Super speeds.
Link below goes into the various versions of the Zeiss Standard Speeds.

Daniel Fox Thanks a lot for clearing that up! :) Cheers
@@mortenvilhelm5555 that website is a goldmine for information on different lens types.
hey , thanks for the video, do you know how to recognise mk2 vs mk1 standard speed? Is some serial number , or they have a different coating?
Maciej Thiem The easiest way to tell is that MK1s have a triangular iris and a funky triangular bokeh to match.
@@KomodoTuts plenty of Mk1s don't have the triangular aperture.
Mk1s were designed for turret cameras and are so much smaller and fiddly to use.
