The amount of unhelpful rhetoric that plagues the comments on recent content here is really sad to see. The comments section on this channel used to have some pretty helpful and thought provoking discussions, now it's just people mocking each other's beliefs, truly depressing.
*"The amount of unhelpful rhetoric that plagues the comments on recent content here is really sad to see. Many of the more salient comments end up hidden in the "Newest First" section leaving the silly comments (like "LuuLuong-bn8iy") to dominate the "Top Comments" section. It doesn't make sense why this happens, but CTT and RUclips do nothing to try to fix the problem - nor do they really care.
yeah. i came back to this channel after many years, hoping to have a good discussion in the comments' section. i don't know if i would be able to though.
@@jimliu2560 if you think that the purpose of the channel is to settle the questions about ultimate truth once and for all then I'd be highly suspicious of how you understood the content. The only mission of philosophical content here on yt and everywhere for the most part is to offer multiple perspectives on a given question, just to encourage you to think abd discuss and see what you take to be the best approach to these questions.
@@omartspace but when the ideas of ID or creationism becomes a discussion, and has been debunked in so many ways, there's not enough philosophy to bring it back from the dead. Yet you want me to take their perspective seriously? That's like trying to think of a philosophical way about a Flat Earth.
Mr. Dembsky’s work on intelligent design actually helped me in my faith journey. That is, the fallacies that run throughout his work prompted me to think more rationally and leave the faith altogether.
In order to say that Jesus is the highest truth, you would have to know every other truth that exists. This is the kind of thinking that Mr. Dembsky promotes. Just because he can make a mathematical argument for the existence of the supernatural doesn’t mean that the mathematics prove the existence of the supernatural.😢
I agree with you so many people bring up a deist argument of God and then you get a theist arguing that their belief is true knowing that a loving caring God fail for reality because the suffering is always there and it was there before we was born with animal. Every belief fail at that for a theist view what make Christian stand out is Jesus moral code value of life and that what touch ppl personally but it fail for ppl who live in a realistic worldview. I alway tell my Christian friend that believe .if God truly care why you still struggling why haven’t he gave you a better life nothing but silent unless they a jovah witness then they try to cherry pick the Bible but that when you bring scholar ship and show how these idea been discuss for years and you guy are wrong trying to cherry pick everything to fit your worldview
I think that God should be thought of as the only being (who may or may not exist) who could heal, redeem, and transfigure all of the suffering of every creature that has ever lived or will live, from big bang, if there was one, to heat death, if there will be one. To paraphrase Julian of Norwich, God is the only possible way that all shall be well, that all manner of things shall be well. Looking about at our almost infinitely immense universe, seemingly random and purposeless, and at life on our little planet, itself predicated on predation and mass extinction, belief in such a God would qualify either as a delusion or a gift.
I can explain. Gods purpose is love. Love can only be experienced by being in constant flux (life). So yes. There is suffering. But the possibility to experience love outweighs the suffering. See Ludus Amoris. Blessings Brother.
@ Trees, fungi, bacteria are alive….they make up the vast-vast majority of life……do they experience love? For thousands of years, poor farm-village children worked in the fields, under the hot sun, get thirsty, drink stream water and get “intestinal-parasites”… … these parasites ravage, cripple, and kill children.. …lacking funds, the parents just let the kid suffer and die and have another replacement child-work-hand… Where is your Gods love? How are these sufferings worthwhile?
What a remarkable comment; that belief does have that unconsciously human range between delusions and a gift. However Buzz Lightyear said it best; "To infinity and beyond." And that comment explains what is Closer to Truth as a series of self conscious inquiries.
Only through CTT have I come to know RL Kuhn's character a little bit. He comes across as having the right attitude for being a believer. He keeps seeking with endurance, and remains full of amazement and wonder. I cannot understand why RLK did not receive his moment of epiphany yet. It's very difficult to remain open as a child when you've grown smarter than most educated adults. But he genuinely seems to be such. Perhaps some other aspects in his life are a hindrance. Perhaps only the danger of him being able and driven to prove scientifically that God exists after an epiphany is what makes God hesitant to reveal Himself to RLK.
For me, the proof that God does not exist is that the Vatican is still standing. If Jesus got so angry about four merchants in front of the temple, what would he not do in the Vatican?
I found your comment very interesting because God tells us in the Bible how he views religions that claim to worship him but do bad things. (Matthew 15:7-9; Matthew 7:21-23) Not only that, he foretold in the Bible that very soon all the religions that are displeasing to him are going to be completely destroyed. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 says that when world leaders declare that they’ve achieved peace and security, hypocritical religions will suddenly be destroyed. Combined with other Bible prophecies that we’re seeing fulfilled with our own eyes, it’s clear that this will happen in the very near future. As the Bible rightly says, those religions are responsible for so much bloodshed. (Revelation 18:24) Immediately after this event Jesus foretold that a “great tribulation” would come upon the earth culminating in God’s war on the wicked. (Matthew 24:21; Revelation 16:14, 16) After that, a wonderful future awaits everyone who wants to live in peace and harmony with everybody else. Psalm 37:10, 11 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.
That's very poor "proof" generally or broadly speaking. But specifically, it seems you are making a connection between the Catholic Church and True Christianity where none exists. There is about equal connection between a dog pooping on the sidewalk and Christianity as there is between the Vatican and Christianity. Although one is God's design and the other is a false church built and propagated by demons for political and material wealth. But until God judges the entire work for all our sins, He is not in dealings with the Catholic Church. They are just one of countless false religions. I recommend studying Les Feldick on youtube if you want a proper view of the Bible and Biblical Christianity. He has many seminars you may find on youtube which are good, but you have to understand they are not the same as his Bible lesson series called, "Through the Bible with Les Feldick". I recommend working your way through some of those to understand Biblical Christianity, which, by your comment, is obvious that you don't. So your premise was false and naturally your conclusions are false as well.
Then again, the vast majority of good people in the Church continue to build schools, care for orphans, help the poor, etc. I'm glad the Pope is getting rid of the rot. There are many faithful who will always want to meet with like fellows to worship and celebrate. They find comfort in a church.
Ok great insight..Now that you condemned the institution what has been your contribution to the things many Catholics have dedicated their lives? Feeding the poor, visiting the sick, caring for the orphans, widows, immigrants etc. Has it ever ocurred to you that if God exist these are the things you may have to account for. Try to spend your time in putting yourself on the side probabilities.
Do you mean because of climate change? If so, the Bible foretold that humans would destroy the earth but during the process God will “destroy those who are destroying the earth”. (Revelation 11:18) Our Creator has a purpose for the earth and for us so he won’t allow humans to prevent him from fulfilling his purpose. (Isaiah 45:18) He assures us in the Bible that the earth will always be inhabited but in the near future only people who want to live in peace and harmony with everyone else will live on earth. Psalm 37:10, 11, 29 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it”. Jesus confirmed this at Matthew 5:5.
Evidence. Physical. Emotional. Spiritual. Your own and others. Don’t think too hard on this question. Have eyes wide open. Listen. Do you hear or listen? Live life. Life is God’s greatest gift. God knows.
I think a person's desire to know if there is a god is a response to a conversation god has started, a conversation that is beyond words as we know them. I don't believe the concept of god originated with man. Proving the existence of god is God's business, not ours. I think he does so individually, one person at a time.
God created us with a desire to worship him and with a spiritual need. (Matthew 5:3; 4:4) That’s why, wherever you look in the world, even very primitive civilisations worship someone or something. It’s also why people ask, where did we come from and what is the purpose of life? The answers to these important questions and many others are found in the Bible. In addition, our loving Creator tells us what he’s going to do very shortly to bring true peace and security to the entire earth. He’s going to permanently solve all of mankind’s problems. (Revelation 21:4) Psalm 37:10, 11 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.
If there was a creator, he gave humans the gift of logical thought based on evidence. If you abandon logical thought, you are doing so in the knowledge that it’s a uniquely human trait. So it’s a bit of a circular question: if you think logically, there’s zero evidence for a god. There are god myths the world over as it was a way to explain everything. When Christianity was invented, people didn’t know where the sun went at night. Now we know almost everything, it’s not necessary.
Don't belittle Christianity. It's apparently necessary for some so they will feel like they should behave themselves. It seems billions of people believe that without their religion, life is simply not worth living and they would have no basis for morality or value at all.
I'm surprised that the quoted tinkering comment didn't get more mileage. Metaphorically you could easily compare both randomness and 'a determined world' to improvisation and diatonic scales/music theory and math, respectively. A quantum world that requires participation and action or otherwise doing. Life is both static and dynamic; a discovery and uncovery of being. The exciting part is that in our unending stream of consciousness (thoughts and feelings that automatically just happen to us) we never really know what tomorrow brings... !
...you are free to choose to go along or to resist your feelings, and also free to choose to follow or not to follow your thoughts... whatever you choose to do, you are always accountable for it ....
not necessarily. i, for one, just want resolution of glaring contradictions that arise from the very idea of the existence of God. beyond that, i'm good.

Einstein said that the universe operates according to strict laws. He said that everything is governed by mathematical equations and formulae. For every law there must be a Lawmaker and for mathematical equations and formulae to exist there must be a Great Mathematician. It’s due to these laws and mathematical equations etc that humans could so accurately calculate the arrival of the Parker Solar probe at the sun and can also send other objects into space that arrive at their intended destination when desired. Many people don’t believe in God because they’ve been taught evolution as a fact even though it isn’t true, and they’ve never examined all the evidence of God’s existence. Other people see what so-called “Christians” do in the name of God and Christ and are repelled by it. Others think that the Bible isn’t true but have never read it or examined it closely. The churches are also guilty of making it difficult for people to know God because of the Trinity doctrine which was conceived by men almost 300 years after Jesus’ death. Jesus never believed he was God and there are numerous scriptures to support that. Just one example is at John 20:17 when he was talking to Mary Magdalene, he said, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God”. God is not just an abstract being. He’s our loving heavenly Father and he wants us to come to know him so he tells us about himself in the Bible. (John 17:3) He is the very personification of love. (1 John 4:8) He’s "merciful, and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and trueness". (Psalm 86:15) Psalm 78:40 says that the rebellion of the Israelites “made him feel hurt”. At Exodus 2:23-25 the Israelites were slaves in Egypt and were being oppressed so they called out to God for help. He took notice of them and helped them. God is very compassionate. He feels our pain and understands the reason for our tears. He comforts us and gives us hope. At James 4:8 he says that if we draw close to him, he will draw close to us, and James 5:11 says that he is “very tender in affection”. We are so precious to God that he knows everything about us including how many hairs we have on our head. (Matthew 10:30) Very soon God is going to make drastic changes on the earth for the benefit of everyone who wants to live peacefully with everybody else. Psalm 37:10, 11 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.
@@MJ1..the Freedom to BELIEVE anything for any reason is not a physical attribute of physical matter being strictly driven by natural physical laws of your epistemology..
Lol, Einstein himself rejected the Bible :"The Bible is a collection of honorable, but still primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish." He also reject the idea of personal god of the Bible : "I believe in Spinoza's God, who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings." I think that you picked a wrong scientist to confirm your ridiculous claims.
As the magazine Christianity Today put it, he is "looking for the difference between a jumble of clouds and skywriting that broadcasts a message" (United Press International, 2000)
The Buddhist sages have realized that there is no real difference between the "randomness" of nature and the purpose-driven control humans think they have.
@@MrDominex it sounds like the "sages" are self-compensating (a not-necessarily bad but common habit among humans) because there's different types of "randomness" that they could put in quotations
@gettaasteroid4650 Creationists claim that complex things cannot assemble themselves "by chance." They are hung up on the Medieval belief that "brute matter" is dead and only an intelligent person can "make" things, they way a building must have a builder. But matter is energy and energy is change and produces patterns and structures of any degree of complexity, no intelligence required. Everything happens through physical interactions with everything else. Any given process is merely the result of all the factors that come to bear upon it. Events only appear random because we don't know their exact cause, but we don't need to in order to make prediction about them, thanks to the mathematics of probability. Intelligence is strictly an animal characteristic like digestion or reproduction, it is responsible for almost no action in the universe. Nature has no goals or intentions and produces no final results, only continuous change. "Intelligent Design" is a failed explanation that is not taken seriously in any scientific institution in the world.
I’ve spent most of my life as a devout Christian, and my spiritual awakening began around 2020. As I went inward, the truths I discovered resonated deeply with Gnostic teachings. I believe that Jesus was meant to show us how to live from our soul’s essence, which is unconditional love. We were meant to learn from his example, not to worship him.
When you are first born, your mother and father are giants, as tall as mountains, to that toddler, they can touch the sky, loud booming voices from the heavens. Huge hands reaching down and lifting you into the sky where you see all, you are safe and warm, they know everything and can do anything. God.
(*^^*) This is an artistic proof of a created universe. When you paint a shadow it's the opposite color of the object that made the shadow. Nobody knew what the opposite color of white was so the artists avoided painting white on white. The opposite color of white is baby blue and baby pink. The first artist to figure it out was Norman Rockwell. I was the second artist to figure it out. I saw it in the corner of a white room. The lighting was perfect to see it. Pigments have different rules than light. It took them thousands of years to get all the pigments they have now.

That’s a question that many people ask. Humans find it easier to understand things that have a beginning and an end, that are finite, but infinity is generally beyond our comprehension. Therefore, the fact that God has always existed and will always exist is very difficult for many people to grasp. The Bible calls God “the King of eternity” because he had no beginning and will never have an end. (1Timothy 1:17) This is very comforting to know because we can always rely on him being there for us and he will without doubt fulfill his promises for a wonderful future for everyone who loves what is good and right. Psalm 37:10, 11 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.
This all stems from reading the bible in a literal way - books about an ancient tribal religion w' child sacrifice, animal sacrifice, genocide, slavery, etc. (see old testament). The 'literalists' also believe the book of revelation is about 'our time' when most scholars know it relates to the destruction of Jerusalem almost 2000 years ago! Mixing mythology, fairy tales and a bit of historical narrative is a recipe for ignorance and chaos.

I call the state of being/reality (undefined) that underlays everything, God. God allowed for the reality that allowed for our universe to develop over the eons. Eventually leading to us, among other natural elements and creatures. God allowed us free-will to validate the worth and usefulness of our existence. It is for us to be good or bad and to take less and give more. Calamities that afflict us and the world are either natural or enabled by us. God listens but does not intervene. God allowed for natural selection to generate us. We can act to a degree to make our lives and our world better. We are helped by following the guidance in the Bible and other organized religion's books of faith. God listens to us, cares for us and provides guidance to us, through our conscience and the theological texts as written by people in the past. Do we live after death? I don't know. The Christian Bible promises us that we will, but we won't know until we experience death ourselves. Or we won't. In either case we win. I choose to believe in the God I've described above.
The word ""God" is burdened with unfortunate associations with fathers, kings and alpha males. The Ultimate Ground of Being is better described as a reality that is more basic than personality or ego, a level that is so abstract it cannot be defined but from which all other phenomena derive. We are as continuous with it as a wave is continuous with the ocean

I, as a former Atheist, had a 2-4 minute long experience where God showed himself to me while wide awake. By the words he spoke, which I didn’t like at the time, later these words proved that it was Jesus Christ who was speaking. Long story but God is real, I KNOW, I don’t believe.
What words did he speak? Did you think to ask him any questions like how long you have to live or when the virtual reality will finally propel video gaming to new heights?
Life comes from life, and by intelligent design life was made to flourish in this material world. Now, when science can create life or reanimate a dead body to come back to life then science can say God is a silly idea.

Things seem to be knocking around in the world without any God, and many simply cannot cope with that likelihood. Another video of confusing, overwrought reaching for reasons to have hope.
If human is an evolving creature or entity, so how come this entity think that what they are thinking is right. Deductive conclusion is there are 2 options, either everything came into being out of nothing from itself without a cause or cause human mind wrongly feed to itself of some unknown reason, with almost infinite co-incidences OR there is a creator. In case of creator, it is more likely and scientific, than godless universe. God is by definition possible when it is creator, sustainer, owner of universe, able to justify for each and every thought and action a creature whatsoever able to think and act.

The odds that everything is coincidence are so great so as to be impossible. Life cannot come into existence by itself; it can only come from preexisting life. AI needed intelligent humans to make it. It follows that intelligent humans had to have an intelligent Creator. Think about the earth. It’s located at exactly the right distance from the sun and in exactly the right place in the Milky Way for life to exist. The air has exactly the right amount and combination of gases to support all life. The water cycle is evidence of intelligent design as are all living things on the earth. A closer examination of God’s creation is truly awe-inspiring! The list of examples is endless.
The biggest problem I have with *"How Should We Think About God's Existence?"* is the lack of definition. The Bible doesn't really say what God is, where God comes from, or how God is made manifest. The closest we get is the Exodus passage, *_"I am who I am"_* ... which boldly posits "self-existence." ... But if I try to further expand on God's definition or pose logistics questions about God's origin, suddenly this is something we're not supposed to talk about. ... Why not? If after you died you discovered that God did not _"infinitely exist"_ or that God _"evolved over time,"_ or that God _"doesn't know the future,"_ ... would you be disappointed? After all, it's still your "God," ... just not in the way that you preconceived.
Jesus said at John 4:24 that God is a Spirit. At 1Timothy 1:17 the apostle Paul calls God “the King of eternity” because he has always existed and will always exist, something that we as humans may find difficult to grasp. Although God is eternal he doesn’t change with the passing of time. (Malachi 3:6) His standards never change, neither do his beautiful qualities. He has revealed a lot about himself in the Bible. For example, he is the personification of love. (1 John 4:8) He is perfectly just. (Deuteronomy 32:4) He’s tenderly compassionate (Luke 1:78) He’s merciful. (Exodus 34:6) Jesus said that God is our heavenly Father and that we’re very precious to him. (Matthew 6:9; Luke 12:6, 7) At James 4:8 he invites us to draw close to him and he will draw close to us. He has included in the Bible the answers to our important questions such as why we’re here, the purpose of life, why we grow old and die, what happens to us when we die, his purpose for us and the earth in the near and distant future, as well as many others. Because he loves us so much he tells us what is acceptable to him and what isn’t, so that we can make sure we’re on “the road to life”. (Matthew 7:13, 14)

It’s difficult for humans to understand that God has always existed and will always exist. Maybe you have never had the opportunity to examine the evidence of his existence. It’s all around us in the amazing, intelligent design of all living things including us humans. A close examination of the Bible shows that God inspired 40 different men to write it. They came from different backgrounds and from different time periods over a span of about 1,600 years, yet all its parts are in complete harmony with each other showing that it has one Author, God. In the Bible he tells us about himself, his likes, dislikes, what he loves and what he hates. The Bible reveals his many beautiful qualities such as love, justice, wisdom, mercy, kindness and compassion. He is our loving heavenly Father and he wants us to know him. He invites us to talk to him and become his friend. He answers the important questions that we have such as where we came from, why we’re here, the purpose of life, why we grow old and die, what happens to us when we die, what will happen to us and the earth in the near future, why there is so much wickedness and suffering, as well as others. He tells us about his purpose for mankind and the earth and the wonderful future he has in store for everyone who loves what is good and right. Here is just one of his promises for the near future at Psalm 37:10, 11. It says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.

Most people cannot imagine how powerful God is. We can’t look directly at the sun on a hot summer’s day without damaging our eyesight. Our sun is a relatively small star, one of trillions in the universe. The largest star found until now is 1,700 times bigger than our sun. There are also all the galaxies and other heavenly bodies. We can’t even begin to imagine the awesome power required to create and keep all of this in place. God is infinitely more powerful than all of his creation, therefore it’s impossible for him to reveal himself physically. For this reason he told Moses, “No man can see me and live”. (Exodus 33:20) Besides that, Jesus said that God is a Spirit and humans are unable to see spirit beings. (John 4:24) God has revealed a lot about himself by means of his creation, the Bible, and by sending Jesus to earth. Jesus perfectly reflected his Father’s personality so by examining the Gospels we can learn much about God. As well, Jesus did many amazing miracles in the full view of thousands of people but most people rejected him when they should have rejoiced to see the Son of God with their own eyes. Jesus is now King of God’s heavenly Kingdom government, and he will very shortly take over the rulership of the entire earth. (Matthew 6:10) He will completely remove all human governments as well as everyone causing pain and suffering for others. (Daniel 2:44; Proverbs 2:21, 22) Then everyone will live in true peace and security and have all their needs lovingly cared for. (Micah 4:4; Isaiah 65:21, 22) God has purposed a wonderful future for everyone who wants to be a citizen of the Kingdom. (Revelation 21:4) Psalm 37:10, 11 says, “Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”.

In addition, our loving Creator tells us what he’s going to do very shortly to bring true peace and security to the entire earth. He’s going to permanently solve all of mankind’s problems.
They are hung up on the Medieval belief that "brute matter" is dead and only an intelligent person can "make" things, they way a building must have a builder.

I’ve got a simple answer to this question, you shouldn’t. Don’t waste your very limited time on this earth thinking about silly things
The first thought is this being doesn’t exist unless we have any evidence
our Awareness with Freedom to BELIEVE is not a natural property of physical matter and so is more than enough evidence to prove that it was not created by Unconscious Bigbang out of NOTHING
(^_^) We need to popularize the idea of getting God married. Getting God married is a good use of someone's time. You are supposed to make the environment intelligent so no God is needed. We fixed the video and audio for the best experience possible. Cameras are supernatural and all of them captured 3D that not a gimmick. The audio loud don't make violence so has depth. Nobody has to buy anything for it to work.
God is the eternally-existing original creator

I could say the same for the Singularity. The only difference is my is natural, yours is supernatural which would need even more proof.

Intelligent design is the greatest indicator of Gods signature in the world. Dear Mr Kuhn Humility is not foolishness. That’s why Muslims and Jews prostate their minds on the Earth ie the minds were created from the Earth.
Intelligent design of the intelligent universe. No need for your god at all
I, as a former Atheist, had a 2-4 minute long experience where God showed himself to me while wide awake. By the words he spoke, which I didn’t like at the time, later these words proved that it was Jesus Christ who was speaking. Long story but God is real, I KNOW, I don’t believe.
How did God show himself to you?
What words did he speak? Did you think to ask him any questions like how long you have to live or when the virtual reality will finally propel video gaming to new heights?

( ^ω^ ) The human body is burly, gnarly and surly like a fractal.
Life comes from life, and by intelligent design life was made to flourish in this material world. Now, when science can create life or reanimate a dead body to come back to life then science can say God is a silly idea.
..the fact that we can create hints the existence of the CREATOR.... and before science can create life, your soul could already be in emptiness (hell) after your long pointless wait

There is no god. Everything is coincidence
Coincidentally space time is relative as in one.

(Matthew 7:13, 14)

... These are all generalized qualities (like "hard worker" and "go-getter") and not necessarily structural "descriptions." The closest to a physical description is where Jesus' claims that God is a "spirit." That tells me that God is not a physical lifeform nor male or female.
