      ***** Perhaps the population of under 1000 people wasn't significant enough to be included in the study. Sealand would probably either be at the top or bottom of this list as well if it was included.
      Notice that only 65 countries was included on this list.

      Well, I wanted to go for the extreme and Sealand was the first micronation that came to mind. =)
      However T Myte beat me to the real point, there are a lot more than 65 countries in the world and the Vatican City is probably one of the least interesting countries for this kind of study.

    There is a direct correlation between the most religious countries and the poorest countries. This survey only did 65 countries. If you look at the other surveys that are closer to 195+ of the total countries you will find that:
    The two most religious countries are also the two poorest countries in the world(Exception of Vatican City).
    The least religious, Japan, China and South Korea also have the highest IQ's in the world.

    Cenk asking people why they are offended by "sky god" is talking to a jewish person and calling them "a Jew." In the context you are saying it is derogatory for people of faith. I just don't understand why you have to hate a group of people if they practice.
    Before some one jumps on my ass, no unlike Cenk I don't assume every religious person is on a mission to harm other people.

    I just want to point out a few things. Aside from being curious how "atheism" was defined in this poll, you can be a Buddhist and an Atheist since it doesn't require the belief in gods. Also, Atheism and Agnosticism are not mutually exclusive. You can be Agnostic AND Atheist/Theist.

    *As usual, you are wrong about Islam:*

      The Batman lol You just quoted the Bukhari. That's rich, guess now you can't deny Aisha was 9 years old and played with dolls. The Bukhari also explicitly says to kill apostates.
      But if you want to scramble back to the Quran:
      quran.com/48/28
      It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.
      And it tells you to kill nonbelievers, just because they choose not to believe.
      plus.google.com/110207313552905074571/posts/CL95YYsotxT
      Muslims can call themselves whatever they want, but they aren't fully "appreciating" the ethics of Islam which is basically Hitler's Mein Kampf. There are things that Muslims exclusively do when in secular countries too. You find disenfranchised Muslims going fundamentalist and joining ISIS? What about the honor killings and forced marriage that happens in secular countries?
      Islam is demonstrated to be at this time worse than all religions when 25% support suicide bombings and a bigger % support Shariah Law. Just look at any Muslim dominated country where Islam has free reign.
      www.pewforum.org/2013/04/30/infographic-the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-and-society/
      I'm against all religion but Islam should be under the most scrutiny for its current status, but instead these "Muslims" say the soundbyte Islam means peace, but it means submission. They also say it's an option to wear the hijab. They haven't read the thing at all and those who do read it are going to be led down a violent path.

      I don't know why you're talking about honour killings and forced marriage, as that's forbidden in Islam, its more of a cultural issue. Its the same as women not being allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. It has absolutely no Islamic basis.

      PSV 040 If you looks through history, you will be proven wrong. Religious has little to nothing to do with a growing country. I mean, look at the Middle East in the 80's, in particular, Iraq. They had one of the highest education in their regions, one of the best healthcare, and one of their university listed 25th best compared to the rest of the world's universities.
      Weather you're poor or not has little to do with religion.
      I mean, if what you said was true, why was the Soviet Union a complete failure? They were proud atheists, but once again, religion has little to do with economics. Maybe influence in culture.

      @SR-ur7yl 7 лет назад +3

      +Madara “LostInGames1” Ryuzaki 'Iraq in the 80's' hahahah, that's in the 80's. I can say that Nazi Germany in 1942 was great to live in at the height of their power. Low unemployment and high standards of living. Look at nowadays, Iraq is a shithole. High unemployment, high poverty, high terrorism. Don't try tonprove your point by mentioning one country nearly 40 years ago. And also, you're incorrect about the Soviet Union. The STATE was Atheist, they closed down churches and other places of worship and religious practice could lead to improsinment, people in Russia have always been religious. It's just that they had to practice their religion in hiding because of state Atheism.

I like watching Cenk just go off on his perspective on a political issues this dude has passion even when he makes fun of crazy over top religious people. But when he get all philosophical about some religion he might not know much about I know he's a proud Atheists or Agnostic but all I have to say is till modern day Science is just now discovering stuff the Buddhist knew along time ago so again in my opinion categorizing Buddhism with the other main religions is kind of missing the nuances which Cenk rarely misses to explain in other issues. Anyway check my comment below where you can agree to disagree haha

      That's not true, most Israelis think the reason we should stay in the West Bank for now is NOT because 'its our god given land', but because previous territorial withdrawals have simply created launch pads for attacks against us: We gave up the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, and since then the Israei city Eilat was attacked several times by rockets which were shot from the Sinai Peninsula.. We went out of Southern Lebanon in 2000 and since then Hezbollah has taken over the territory and launched rocket attacks against Israeli cities near the border with Lebanon. We gave up the Gaza Strip in 2005, and since then Hamas has taken over the territory and launched rocket attacks which hit almost every Israeli city. Einstein once said: Insanity means doing the same think over and over again and exepting different results. Well, its insanity to think that if we will withdraw from the West Bank the result will actually be peace.

      The Young Turks Why do you guys hardly read comments on your videos, let alone respond to them? You guys did a video on M855 green tip ammunition and you guys spouted a lot of BS, like how Cenk said that the NRA probably bribed 80,000 people to get them to sign the petition not to ban 5.56 green tip ammunition. People who knew more about firearms and ammunition than you guys actually left a good deal of informational comments, like how the bulletproof vests that the ATF tested the 5.56 green tip ammunition were rated for pistol rounds, not for rifle rounds shot out of a pistol. And since these rifle rounds were being shot out of a pistol they got reclassified as a "pistol" cartridge. Normal civilian 5.56 Full Metal Jacket ammunition can pierce the Pistol rated body armor, so with the same logic you could ban most all rifle ammunition if you chambered a pistol to shoot it "which isn't hard". There are cartridges from the mid 1800's that can defeat the pistol rated body armor used in the testing. I COULD USE A BLACK POWDER MUZZLELOADER PISTOL AND DEFEAT THIS ARMOR! So please for your sake as well as ours, read the comments on your videos so that you can get feedback as well as facts from your audience. Thank you for your time if you read my comment, we appreciate your effort to read the feedback from your audience. Have a great day.

      I consider myself protestant and I am part of the protestant church in Norway, but I don't consider myself religious, in fact I consider myself atheist. Likewise it is perfectly possible to be atheist and jewish.
      What Americans don't seem to get is that for many religion is a often just a cultural tradition and not somebody's belief.

    • @seanwhitehall4652
      @seanwhitehall4652 8 лет назад

      Hmm, I guess that makes sense. I'd always considered religion specifically to be that belief and behavior tied to it, with cultural tradition just being a separate thing.

    • @povelvieregg165
      @povelvieregg165 8 лет назад

      Sean Whitehall Think that varies with culture. E.g. there was a study of Thor and Odin worship in Nordic countries vs the US. In the US the practice was completely different emphasizing personal belief, while the Nordic believers primarily emphasized the tradition and cultural elements.
      I believe Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian terrorist also approached Christianity primarily from this angle. He emphasized christian traditions and values not the personal faith or belief. I don't think he was religious.

    Vietnam, Japan and China is misleading... VN for example is predominantly Buddhist which technically is at its heart athiestic, same with Japan, however people actively participate in religious festivals as part of their cultural heritage. China is misleading because the Gov is officially athiest and skews the statistics, and for the same reason as VN and Japan, people are more culturally active than religious. Also, take Confucianism in all three cases into account because it is also more or less Athiest.

      Prince Asim then why do they share more similarities in DNA than f.e. an Ethiopan Jew vs- Ethiopian Christian or Somali Muslim or a Ashkenazi Jew -vs- Russian caucasian ? Yes, the DNA of an Ashkenazi Jew and a Sefardi Jew and an Ethipian Jew are closer linked than with their (former) countrymen. There have been e-tensive studies about it in recent years, and not only by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem but all over the world , most prominently in Finland and the USA !

    • @doc7000
      @doc7000 9 лет назад

      +Prince Asim Without looking into the science of things on how long does it take for a group of people to change their appearance there is one thing that you over looked. That is that groups can mix in with other groups and this can/does change the way that both groups look, However if a small group moves into a big group and over lets say 2,000 years you have mixing then you can slowly see a population change in appearance.
      Not trying to make a judgement call or anything just pointing out a flaw that I commonly hear people use in an argument as they are assuming that no mixing occurred. A great example of heavy mixing vs low levels of mixing are people of African decent living in the US and people of African decent living in Mexico. Most people wouldn't know this but far more Africans were taken to Mexico then were taken to the US. The big difference is that the African population in Mexico completely mixed in with the native population as well as Europeans mixing in with the native population.
      Because of this in the US you have something like an average of 20% mixing for African Americans with the general mixed group being European. This is actually really common in the Americas outside of the United states, Canada, and Argentina which all saw massive waves of immigration from Europe for a period of time in their recent histories (last 200 years so relatively recent). Out of something like 10,000,000 African salves less then 500,000 went to the United states.

    Only video I disliked by TYT. I don't appreciate the pessimism on religion. I'm an atheist, but I respect religious people as long as they have modern morale. You can be progressive and religious. I view it as not much of a factor to the world that atheism is increasing and religion is decreasing. There's always going to be religious conflict in the middle east, but that doesn't say that religion is bad. It's the extremists that make it seem bad. Yet again, I am an atheist. I disagree with what the Bible says. I have progressive morals.

    how are anti-theists any better than people like pat robertson? why can't we all just piss off and acknowledge that we can't be sure of anything beyond our existence as humans and beyond that literally anything is possible, I mean there a tons and tons of unexplained miracles and events that have happened and are still happening so claiming that YOU KNOW that the only things that exist are things we can see and can explain and rationalize is just arrogant and narrow minded

    • @Liberater4589
      @Liberater4589 9 лет назад

      ***** that's the point, only using evidence that we can find is foolish because not only do not know shit about anything, but we are infants to this universe and claiming to know the answer to whether or not their is something more than just what we can comprehend is unbelievably foolish and naive, I mean using reasoned judgments doesn't always work, like as an example the hum; a mysterious hum that has affected several thousands of people across the world that cannot be explained using our logic, it has caused most people affected to go insane and on occasion for them to commit suicide, and we can't explain it and I can't really say anything else because I can't explain trying to use my human logic

    • @Liberater4589
      @Liberater4589 9 лет назад +1

      ***** I'm not saying because we can't explain something therefore god did it (which why exactly is that not an option I mean do you know?) uh no usually there is not a logical explanation, take for example this one Mary statue (in some monastery I don't remember you can just look it up) where the people in the monastery heard crying on nights, and then days later it began to bleed and cry, and when examined by professionals they concluded that the tears and blood were real and not a figment of all their imaginations, so I ask how exactly can a logical explanation be used to answer this phenomena? (and also basically any other extreme medical miracle deemed unexplainable) my point is clearly there is something that we cannot comprehend as infants to existence and claiming that you know there is nothing aside from what we can deduce is just absolutely foolish and naive, and okay I understand that religion can be attributed to some pretty bad things (though usually religion is just a cloak to be used for someones real agenda/a way to recruits for a cause, but that aside) but I ask again why are anti-theists any different from say a nazi? (to use a pretty radical example) I mean Jews have done some pretty bad things before and even now and they just want to destroy it, and I will finish on this: the good does not wash out the bad nor the bad the good, so yes religious people have done/are doing bad things in the name of religion before, but they have also done/is doing amazingly good things so trying to destroy it because it can do bad also means you destroy its ability to do good, and the average day religious person is not the same as an ISIS fantatic; they just want to live there lives in peace and believe what they want to believe and most will respect others belief of no belief (as in a religion)

      ***** I doubt you have heard the hum, mostly because it effects urban, suburban and rural (like villages) areas, and there are people who work to find out how it is caused and still have not found the answer, aye our logic has served us quite well for thousands of years, but I have 2 questions; swords and arrows served militaries well for thousands of years so why change from that? and just because something has been around for a long time, does that make it all we need? and yeah I guess you could claim those things, there's nothing proving you otherwise so who knows maybe you are right, I do not claim to know something I do not just because any alternative seems preposterous to me, well trying to use only human logic to try and solve the unsolvable is a waste of time, so yet again I ask you this: a wife and her children are watching their husband/father walk and then all of a sudden he disappears, then weeks later one night they here him scream for help, look outside and see nothing and never hear from him again, now explain to me how we can honestly explain that using human logic (by the way that is a real story)

      ***** - Technically, neither Theism nor Atheism advances societies. They're just philosophical views, they don't have much practical value in creating technology or economics. That's why highly or fairly religious societies like Italy are better off than very atheistic societies like North Korea or fairly atheistic societies like Norway are better off than very religious countries like Chad. There are dozens more important factors that advance society than atheism or theism.

      Why?
      because they need it.

    • @davidhess5979
      @davidhess5979 9 лет назад

      Just because the Catholic church excommunicates a person for a wrong, does not mean that wrongful person cannot ask for forgiveness. However, that also does not mean that the person who was wronged has to be obligated trust the person that wronged them.
      If a woman is living through domestic abuse from a husband that keeps hitting her after he apologizes should not be obligated to remain with such a brute.
      Before Vatican II, the Catholic church stated that they were the only path to heaven. After Vatican II the Catholic church revoked that previous statement. I love atheists and agnostics, they make the religious question their own faith and to think analytically without combing through a bible hundreds of times. Because I can think for myself, I can determine that not everything the Catholic church says has to be what I have to believe. I'm glad to know that Pope Francis has stated that people who do good deeds, even if they are atheists are going to heaven.
      The Catholic church has to be very progressive in correcting past failures, such as the sex abuse scandal, to earn the trust of other individuals. Intolerance for another being or religious faith is not the path that I follow. However, you are more than welcome to follow that path, I'm not going to make up your mind for you. You are your own person, you have the right to be whatever you want to, or believe in whatever you want to believe in. I don't follow my faith blindly, I follow my faith and support my church with an analytical and critical mind.

    • @TheHigherVoltage
      @TheHigherVoltage 9 лет назад

      David Hess You completely missed the point. The Catholic Church is notorious for having a "my way or the highway" philosophy.
      "Before Vatican II, the Catholic church stated that they were the only path to heaven. After Vatican II the Catholic church revoked that previous statement."
      Strange how the unchanging Jesus changes his mind all the time.
      ". I'm glad to know that Pope Francis has stated that people who do good deeds, even if they are atheists are going to heaven. "
      um...you know Vatican spokesman denounced that statement, right?
      "The Catholic church has to be very progressive in correcting past failures, such as the sex abuse scandal, to earn the trust of other individuals"
      It's better than how they use to 'gain trust'. ie. Don't believe us and we'll have you tortured and/or killed.
      Anyways, I don't really want to get into a church bashing thing, I just thought I'd point out the 'my way or the highway' is rooted deep in the Catholic Church. A pope saying something offhand in an interview, is not the same as changing Church policy.

    • @davidhess5979
      @davidhess5979 9 лет назад

      I follow my own faith, and support the church with an analytical and critical mind.
      I agree with you that the church is notorious for having a "My way or the high way" policy. However, I don't have to follow that policy. I don't agree with the Vatican spokesman, but agree with the Pope. The Catholic church of the past, involving torture and killing, is not the Catholic church that I agree with.
      True, the Pope's interview may not be the same as changing Church policy, but it is a step in the right direction.

    • @TheHigherVoltage
      @TheHigherVoltage 9 лет назад

      David Hess To me, you're in contradiction. If you follow your own faith, you are against the church. The church does not say 'pick and choose what you want to believe'.
      If you were using an analytical and critical mind, it would be impossible to support even the most basic premises of not only Catholicism, but Christianity as a whole, and same with any other religion or claims that include contradictions in logic and empirical evidence.

    There is nothing wrong with religion. For the vast majority of people religion doesn't do anything to them, even if they consider themselves to be religious. I know a few people who have turned their life around by worshipping the Gods that I don't believe in, and I think that's a wonderful thing - difference in thoughts and opinions should be widely encouraged and accepted, not something to be ashamed of. I have my own religious beliefs, beliefs that tie into science and knowledge to gain insight rather than revealed scriptures. I believe everything that is written has some meaning to someone. There are the people who will abuse religion to justify their own causes, but that can be said to just about any motive. I'm just sick and tired of all these people, both in TYT and in the comment section, that believe there must be something wrong with you because you don't think like they do. The only thing wrong with religion and the people who are in it are the ones who are causing the oppression to people like you who oppress them. It's pathetic and we really need to evolve as a species if we are going to survive.

    "don't not eat the poisonous fruit of the knowledge of good and evil."Way to completely misquote the Bible. God didn't want Adam 1) disobeying God and 2) even gaining the knowledge of what is good and evil. Back then, everything was good. There was no evil.Christians are free and encouraged to seek knowledge. Much of science was originally founded by Christians who sought knowledge of God's universe and how it works. Christians built most early universities in America.The public school system was founded to teach kids to read the Bible and gain a better understanding of scripture.We are absolutely not against knowledge. I became a Christian seeking knowledge and truth regarding the Creation vs. Evolution debate. I am currently in college pursuing my bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I have Christians all around me who have attained at least one degree. I know a few who have several.
