SHOW NOTES:
Better Together Life means that our family is better when we are all together. Which is a good thing because we have a lot of kids. But it is our mission to create entertaining and inspiring stories for people like us who want to do what we do.
I may have used some photos or images in this video that deserve credit--

I've done dishes, clothes, cats, dogs, kids, sheets, and towels in my tub. You do what you have to do. Love your kitchen. I am so glad to see things coming together. Have a Blessed Day!
That is a really nice kitchen. It is good seeing you guys, actually enjoying all of your new home. TY for sharing with us. Your kids are adorable. Daddy, daddy, daddy.
Love the cabinets you choose. They fit your home perfectly. Dishes in the tub is a right of passage every adult should experience once in life... hahaha
I LOVE IT!!! I'm almost crying. It looks just gorgeous. So happy for all of you. Yay!!!!
Thanks! Kelly gets all of the credit!!
Don't know why, but this really made me smile ................. thank you so much.
We remodeled our kitchen in our house a couple years ago. Demo in June and everything finally fully functional for Thanksgiving = very long summer and fall. I was so excited to see the dishwasher in place and functional!
Wahoo!!!! Congrats!
I didnt have running water to my bathtub either ,we lived 4 months just with buckets and dish pans. he got the sink hooked up with just cold water the day before Thanksgiving . we had the whole family for dinner and heated water on the stove to do dishes. it felt like luxury to me. that was in 1973.
Cardboard IS gold. It's the base layer for almost all our garden beds, orchard, and earth garden! Worms love it. Gold indeed. :-D
Sooooooo true!!!!! We have a ton of cardboard for when we get our garden going!
This is the part I would be most excited about!!! I would die for a new kitchen!!!!
We couldn’t be more happy!!!!!
I have absolutely done dishes in the bathtub. Many many times. Lol. Congratulations on your kitchen!
Thank you sooooo much!!!!!!
It looks great. I like the blend of traditional and modern looks. It is a very clean install. If I had a dime for every time I had to do dishes in the bathroom...but that was when I was single. Lol. Awesome stuff, guys!
I cannot wait till I can finish putting in my kitchen too. I'm still pioneering the dishes outside to wash and heating the water on a propane burner. Kitchen looks great. So happy for you guys!🎉
You can do this!!!!!!
So awesome!! Our kitchen was just a minor remodel, but we know the kind of disruption it can cause to life, and the glorious feeling of counters being installed and a working sink. The kitchen looks amazing! I've got questions on the details, but I'll save them for the tour video in case they are answered there.
For sure man! I’ll have it published first thing tomorrow. It’s edited and ready to go!
Dishwashers actually use less water than hand washing and disinfects from the really hot water and detergent. Very nice kitchen! You two put so much thought into your home and it shows. Bravo! Pickles for everyone! 😄
Yay, it's coming together beautifully!! So exciting!
Soooooooooo Happy for your kitchen !!! I can only imagine what a relief this must be for you... not having to wash dishes in the bath tub.... and you have a functioning kitchen once again !!! Hey guys welcome back to the world :) Now it's time to get going on other projects. So looking forward to see what's next on the " Brotherton's Homestead Adventure" . :)
Thank you Mr Cleo!!!!
Yes, we are sooooo excited! Next up is the garden! We need to grow something for sure!!!
when my husband left my 3 kids and I lived in a shelter for 3 months and a homeless hotel, we did dishes in the bathtub then when we got into our apartment, I did all of my box of dishes by hand then put them in the dishwasher. I cried when the dishwasher dingned done. you never know what you miss or take for granted until you don't have it anymore. now 12 years later we are moving from the 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house( still renting for now) with a yard and my own washer and dryer( no more laundry mat) we cant wait. some day I want to have a little house in the country but that will wait its turn!
Love the video. I’ve considered an IKEA kitchen for my future home, they’re very sturdy for the price. I love the look you guys went with, super sleek and clean. As a daycare worker I’ve got to laugh at the part where the installer says the lacquer will stop fingerprints and Kelly’s entire face was so enthused.
How nice to have a sink. Enjoy it
We could not be more grateful! We will never take ANY running water in this house for granted!!! Ever! 🤣🤣
It sooo unfair how much I love your house 😩🙌 on day I will have my own very similar
Don’t “get down” on yourself..... “get to work!”
Start listening to Gary Vaynerchuck on RUclips. He will get you pumped up to start chasing down the dreams that keep you up at night!!
I've done dishes in my bathtub. I am definitely a homesteader.
The kitchen is beautiful! So pretty!
Thank you!!!! It was all Kelly’s design! Be sure to check out the Tour Video tomorrow!
So happy for y'all.
I love IKEA and your kitchen looks great!
😍 Eeeeek! Yay!!!!! So happy for you guys!
Thank you!!
The kitchen look amazing!
Yayayay super excited about tomorrow!!!! Can’t wait!!!
😂 LOL I can totally relate to doing dishes in the bathroom 👍
As you guys know (I think), we also went with IKEA for our kitchen reno, and are super happy with it! I think if you're on a budget it's a really great option. Although customer service with IKEA is a pain in the butt to deal with, it took us like 2 hours each time to get someone on a phone. Also, the caption in the middle made me legit laugh out loud in my office. hahaha, you guys are too funny! -Jenn
hahahaha!!!! Sunshine Farm..... you get a shout out in tomorrow's video!!!!! It's when Kelly gives the full tour.
😄
Friends who ikea build together are bonded 😉PS. Did I see your shelving preview?! We have plans for something just like that to the right of the window !
Better Together Life are you referring to the black pipe shelving on Instagram? If so, yes! We are doing it for a multi-purpose seed starting/bookshelf. We built a coffee bar with black pipe and Chris just loves the industrial look. We also still have to add open shelving in our kitchen but I haven’t been able to choose what I want yet. 🤔
Ha...never mind my question on the other video about whether you guys installed the cabinets or if Ikea did.😀 Looks so good!
Yay! So exciting!! It’s very pretty.
It is ALL Kelly!!!!! :)
Boxes make the neatest forts!
We do our dishes in the cement pond out back. By the way, kitchen looks really good. I would've never thought about getting it from IKEA.
Put white IKEA cabinets in seven years ago still happy.
Cardboard. Protects your stuff during transport, best toy ever, best mulch/weed suppression ever, compost, vegetables.
Wow. So pretty! Are you going to get shelving instead of cabinets for the wall space above the countertops? The pine color is amazing with the stainless steel and gray paint. Have fun with your dishes!
Its awesome you guys!
Baby looked scared when found out daddy was cooking instead of mommy...😱😁
Omg really lol you didn't playing Homestead if you've never done dishes in your bathtub well I've done dishes in my bathtub that's for sure unfortunately. Lol y'all are to funny. If people don't know that was a joke then I don't know what to tell them. Y'all are awesome. Kitchen looks amazing!
True homesteading is not only doing your dishes in the bathtub, but having to Bootleg your water from your next-door neighbor via a garden hose through your bathroom window and heating up water on a camp stove in order to wash either the dishes or your two children. I did that for six weeks in September and October of 1984 until we got our own utility pole and the septic tank put in and the well dug. Our house build looked like something out of a Beverly hillbilly set as I think we also had an electrical cord running from our neighbor's workshop over to our house to supply it with electricity. I was informed at the hospital where I worked that people in third world countries lived in better conditions than what I was living but my comment was, " yes , but it's mine."
By the way, Kelly, that is a beautiful kitchen.
True that!!!!!!! That is amazing, you are our hero for doing so much work for water. Way to go!!!!!
@@BetterTogetherLife thank you so much. This is why I often respond to your videos with Tales of what Gary and I did to build our house out in Bandera County 35 years ago. Hopefully you might learn from them and not repeat some of our mistakes ! As Kelly well knows, it's very difficult to live with a family member when you have little ones. After a while, no matter how much you love one another, you get on each others nerves and you just want your own space. I failed to mention only because I think I had mentioned it in previous comments during that six-week time. That we live like that we also used an outhouse- we did not have a running toilet. Gary got the downstairs toilet plumbed in literally 24 hours before the 1st November Norther hit. But again, this is what some people will do to have their own home and property versus living with somebody else or in someone else's house or apartment. I think only those who have tried homesteading can understand this type of mentality.
So some details... is the counter tops Quartz or granite? And are you doing upper cabinets? My husband and I are at the drywall stage of our shed to home. We have all the kitchen drywall done. I made my first appointment with a cabinet place to start looking for my dream kitchen. Super excited 😃
Hey it's Sonya n Jason... love the kitchen and home!!! Quick question did you get the toaster oven in the middle of the build? We got ours around Christmas, but have been without a real kitchen since August.... Oh how I wish we had not waited on that little gem!!!! Lol 😁 You should do a keys to surviving construction, tips and tricks to make it out in one piece lol 😂🤣😂
Oooooooh purdy! We just got counters too (only took 15 years), Sonny chose a honed stone by accident, listen to the man's cleaning instructions is all I have to say....🤦 #yesgranitecanstain
Ooooo yikes! That’s not good.
I think you should build a secret staircase down to an underground bunker (what the heck).
I did dishes in our bathtub for 6 months while pregnant... cash flow a kitchen remodel gone bad... anyway, eventually you just give up and take a bath with your dishes 😂 just kidding. #betterthanideserve
So, not a homesteader if you haven't washed dishes in your tub? There are those that think you are not a true homesteader if you don't poop in a bucket. LoL
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey, you know that we have DONE THAT!!!!! Lol!! 🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Did you buy all the appliances from Ikea too?
We did not, we actually got those at Lowes. It was a little cheaper.....but yet we aren't in love with either of the appliances. They work fine, just not our favorites. :/
Lol Wait till you do the laundry for the whole family in the bathtub.
YES!!!!! That is soooooo true!! Hahahaha
I work at ikea
YAY!!!!!!! That's so cool!
Unfortunately, I have done dishes in my bathtub.
🤣🤣. Been there, done that, and sooooooo glad to be past it! Lol
The position of the stove is odd, don't you think!
Doing the dishes in the Bathtub is so unsanitary.
Why didn't you buy a utility sink for the laundry room?
Look nice though❤
You're a hustle woman......why didn't you buy us a utility sink for the laundry room? haha.
Thanks for the comment.
@@BetterTogetherLife For the safety of the your children, you should add 2 caps of bleach to kill any bacteria!
Damn you have a sink, now!
#YOURCALL
Do you think we didn’t disinfect the bathtub???
OF COURSE we did.
PEMG HUSTLE WOMAN AQUATICS you can scrub a bathtub clean.
I’m so confused... where is this comment thread going?-kelly
The two of you have definitely lost your sexist couple membership. You should be cooking while Beau is playing with his clamps LOL. I Love your kitchen. Those doors look fabulous and I love those sinks. They're so practical. Forget doing dishes in your bathtub, you could bath the kids in the kitchen sink.
I cannot believe my ears, a homesteader that has a dishwasher that uses much more water than washing by hand. hmmm Something new everyday. Thanks for sharing.
Really?? We are the first "homesteader" you have ever heard of that uses a dishwasher? THAT is something I've never heard before.
Automation.....we will be automated all of our irrigation in our garden and food forest. If I could automate loading my dirty dishes after feeding 4 kids and now a dog.....I would buy that robot in a heart beat.
But don't worry, I'll be collecting our own rain water in 2019....so that will make up for the "extra water usage." lol.
Rebecca Haughn they’ve got four kids and the option to have one. Go talk to the state of Arizona about water rights if you’re that concerned.
Sorry - but your camera skills are quickly declining. It was making me sick - and giving me a headache. I am excited about your kitchen, and home advancements. Please be more considerate about the camera. Thx!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You should go ahead and unsubscribe. Bye bye.
@@BetterTogetherLife - So, you are not interest in honest comments, that will help you improve for your future viewers? Sorry, I was not trying to be mean -
M A Neuschwander hey, sure thing. Thank you for your comment. Have a great night.
Dude! Never use soap on your cast iron!! LOL
You should when it is in bad condition. At that point it is screwed anyway.....so go ahead and use the "suds" to your advantage and then throw the Dawn away and start cooking some bacon in it! haha.
