Authentical 69 you can use fuel to power engines. in the video the combustion engine powered with fuel produces 6MJ . Oil makes the combustion engine produce only 3MJ
I’m here for the oil pump tutorial, I’ll be back to refine my oil with this video. Thank you for the short video, I hate when it’s a 20 min vid of a dude talking about his base first lmao awesome video man!
so i did a comparison in creative, between running the refinery/quarry on combustion engines or converting between RF and EU... the difference doesn't seem that great at first, but i let the simulations run a while and discovered that using only combustion engines is WAAAAY more efficient than doing any conversion. when the simulations using conversion had finally run completely out of fuel and oil, the one using only combustion engines still had two full buildcraft tanks of refined fuel, and the quarry was still running strong.
The energyused/block ration isn't linear in build craft. Quarry operate at 100% energyused/block mined at around 200 RF/T Getting more energy into it with your fuel gets the quarry operating faster, at the invisible cost of efficiency going down. It's more efficient to run it at 5 RF/T while it might take a WEEK to mine your volume. the minimum achieved atm is 1150 RF energytomineablock at 50 RF/T. With at 6000 RF/T it costs 2400 RF to mine a block. As you were giving more energy with the fuel. The system that has weak back nozzle was just wasting energy to clear the volume faster, proof is here : your oil setup was still running because he doesn't waste as much energy to mine faster. What's wrong here is to think that fuel is bad for EVERYTHING ELSE. As the fuel quarry was cleared and empty of any liquids. While the quarry fuel one HAS in fact a better ratio due to his fuel value doubled ! You also maybe spent some fuel to power your setup, that's the trick here. To conclude let's repeat this case, we ignore warmup : Oil = 10 engines --> total 300 RF/T --> Quarry speed efficiency sheet : 20 seconds to spend them over 100 blocks --> Total energy used : (300*(20ticks)*20) = 120 000 RF, for 100 blocks Now you put the SAME amount of engines BUT, running on fuel. Fuel = 10 engines --> total 600 RF/T --> Quarry sheet : 11 seconds for 100 blocks --> (600*20*11)= 132 000 RF, for 100 blocks. Now we get wiki and math : 1 bucket of oil is 200 000 RF 1 bucket of fuel is 2 288 000 RF, after a few research, he's at 7.5 times the value of oil, thus : so 1 500 000 RF 1 500 000 RF / 132 000 RF = 11.35 * 100 blocks = 1 135 blocks --> Fuel 200 000 RF / 120 000 = 1.666 * 100 blocks = 166 blocks --> Oil Divide the time needed to adjust a last time the fuel effectiveness : 11/20 = 0.55 0.55*1 135 = 624,25 blocks per bucket of fuel and unit of time 166 blocks per bucket of oil and unit of time 624.25/166 = 3.76 Fuel is overall for (time+waste+refinery part used to process+block) 3.76 "Overall" efficient. EVEN if the quarry is taking more RF/block at higher speeds. The fuel 7.5 energy efficiency goes down to 6.5, that's still enough. Now make your own math with using ONLY 5 engines running on fuel. Energy waste will raise the overall ratio, until he gets to 6.5 value that you can't get beyond since a part is needed to get the fuel from oil with refineries.
yeah, i was wondering if you could help with that - for some reason i can't take fluid out of the distiller, only put in. i tried the wooden fluid pipe and the standard pipe, but neither would work, even with an engine pumping
i was talking about the pipes to transfer the joules but its all figured out now. wooden and golden redstone signal pipes or something like that did the trick.
now in the newest version if you use anything that has oil in it for combustion engines they will make residue which is basically waste cant do shit with it other than transfer heat through heat exchangers i think
Wooden Kinesis for the first one that connects to the pump, and then golden from there to each machine and refinery. That seems to be the best power flow for your money.
What does one do with the fuel after it has been converted from oil to fuel and then transported to the tank? How do you power an Macerator with it for example. I have looked many times and have failed to see what you do with the fuel in other videos.
+Mega Minecraft Gamers the macerater is from a different mod; industrialcraft. this is buildcraft. they are not interchangeable unless you have another mod that converts one type of power to another. i use Power Converters 3. so basically, you can create fuel, use it to power a combustion engine from buildcraft, then convert the buildcraft MJ into industrialcraft EU to generate electricity for your industrialcraft machines. other than that, the only really useful thing buildcraft engines are good for is to power the quarry. and converting buildcraft power to industrialcraft power is a bit lossy. so if you're using the power for a quarry, the most efficient method is simply to use combustion engines. i've tested it pretty extensively in creative mode to be certain. once your refinery/quarry setup is up and running, and producing excess fuel, you can start re-routing it to power your industrialcraft machines. my method to do this is to charge a couple of CESU batteries at the refinery area and bring it either to my machines or to the quarry, depending on where my refinery is set up. CESU batteries are pretty cheap, but hold a pretty big charge; so you won't have to run back and forth very often.
+Mega Minecraft Gamers holy crap, i completely forgot about the semifluid generator. it's relatively new... industrialcraft has its own generator that can use buildcraft fuel as input. the semifluid generator is the most efficient way to power your industrialcraft machines using fuel from a refinery. so really, there is a conversion method built right in to industrialcraft. you only need Power Converters if you want to convert back from EU to MJ/RF. (buildcraft just recently started calling it RF. it's exactly the same, just a new name. probably to be more compatible with mods like Project Red that use RF.)
Combustion engines are cooled with water. It can be placed into it via buckets or pipes connected to a pump. But after a combustion engine is ran for a while then turned off, it must be allowed to rest and cool before being activated again. One thing to remember is that combustion engines explode fuel to create energy. So if you don't pay attention to your water level they will blow up equivalent to a block of tnt.
I have this big probolem: I pumped out all the oil from a reservoir and then filled up a whole tower of stacked tanks, there's probably 25 tanks which are stacked on top of each other but when I connect them to a refinery the refinery doesn't fill up.Do you know how to fix this?
+Wolfen Kittens Thats not the proplem.. atleast i think he has the same issue as me.. i have a pump connected to two tanks, which for some reason i cant draw oil out of using a bucket, so im use the wooden fluid pipe (powered by redstone engine) to extract the oil, the pipes are FULL of oil and connected to my refinery, for some reason the refinery will not accept any oil. any idea as to why?
Wolfen Kittens Thanks for the help? xD I can put the oil directly into the refinery and it converts to fuel, but i cant get oil in it using pipes (ive tried quartz and stone pipes) and I cant get oil out of the tanks using a bucket.. so everything that comes out of my pump is basically useless and i have to get it all from buckets.. kind of a pain but if i find the oil it works just fine with buckets.. idk, havent found a fix, someone said they made a new world and it worked fine.. i tried that and it still doesnt work, i tried recreating it in creative mode, same issue. does the same in my singleplayer, i think it may be the version of the mod that i have but im afraid to update in case it does something to the world since im so far along id hate to start over.. but i might try that soon
yeah.. everything is powered and oil filled in through the pipes.. it just wont go into the refinery.. i assume its the same issue that causes me not being able to use buckets to get oil out of the tanks.. i tried updating and that didnt fix it but i havent tried a new world yet.
+Mateo Ceballos it allows it in because, when you find a geyser in the ocean, the pump will pull water as well as oil. so you have to worry about keeping the water out of the refinery. that's the only reason it can go in there. just something else to worry about to keep it interesting.
HELP!!! in need of, i have filled the refinery just as it is show (which works) and have set up the power with the kenesis pipes but the refinery in not working its getting mj's but its not refining can someone tell me why D:
should be MegaJoules, not MinecraftJoules, also, what;s the point of putting the fuel in the combustion engines if they're gonna power the refinery to make fuel, you're wasting the fuel you just made! great vid though

Divide the time needed to adjust a last time the fuel effectiveness : 11/20 = 0.55
0.55*1 135 = 624,25 blocks per bucket of fuel and unit of time

They look like the refinery or the tanks but they're different
Tristan Morgan In this video, I just used 4 Buildcraft combustion engines running on oil to power the refinery.

Good thing i can use the Refined oil from Build Craft in TrainCraft Engines
Ok. But HTF I get the fuel out of refinery via bucket?
what if i need to move the tank with the liquid inside?
how do i extract fuel from the refinery into a bucket?
Extract it in a tank then click the tank with your bucket
What is the point though? Is refineries and oil fabricators use so much energy then surly were losing power?
My refinery is at medium speed, even though i have 4 combustion engines pumping into it. how do i make it go faster?
what pipes did you connect to the combustion engines? im guessing golden kinesis?
Wooden Kinesis for the first one that connects to the pump, and then golden from there to each machine and refinery. That seems to be the best power flow for your money.
Do you need to use pipes from buildcraft, (and power) or can you use pipes from other mods
Whenever I try and pick up oil with a bucket it turns into water? Any idea why this is?
i cant seem to get the oil to go into the refinery.
