Bought my Rog Ally March 1, 2024 and I just opened and charged it today March 5, 2024. I started the setup at 12:30pm and its now 4:55pm. Everything is updated and this tutorial was well worth it
@seehafenzwerg2087 Yeah that long and this isn't even setting up EmuDeck or Emulation Station. Now I haven't updated windows in about 2 weeks since hearing about the slow downs and crashes
@GokuDUchiha Honestly, I couldn't tell you that. Everything I know so far about my Rog Ally I learned from RUclips. But, there is someone on youtube explaining the Valorant game settings and keyboard lag
If you didn't already know you can get the official AMD drivers and adrenaline and use AMD Fluid Motion frames to basically double your framerate in any dx11 or dx12 game. ETA Prime has a good tutorial and shows some games running on his channel
You won’t regret it. Keep in mind, if you want it to run the smoothest it could possibly be, plug it in with the charger it came with or the one they’re trying to sell with all the ports
Can you please make it clear about bios updates - is it ok now to update to the newest version? Just ordered my new baby yesterday, OP, thank you for your input to the community!
This is an EXTREMELY well made video! This was literally the vid that made me topple over and just get Rog Ally like I’ve been wanting so I thank you 🙏 I will for sure be using this in-depth vid to help setup my new (also being my first) PC Handheld 💜 you’ve just earned a new sub my guy 🔥
Recently got Rog Ally as a gift from a friend and this is the tutorial I need. Setting this up alone is a hassle since it's not that straightforward. Thanks armory crate and it's issues.
Glad the tutorial helped :) Windows and AC definitely have their drawbacks. There is something called "G-Helper" that I prefer as it let's me leave AC completely off. I have a video about it here: ruclips.net/video/CyFQUacAIf8/видео.html.
thank you friends, finally I understand how to use UMPC Rog Ally. At first I was confused about how to operate the device, but now I understand, thanks bro
Thankyou so much for the tutorial, got mine yesterday and could not get games to run after about 4 hours of updates, was on the verge of taking it back until I found your video. Followed it through and works a treat now. You are a life saver.
@@AlxTheProgrammer I'm not ready to replace my laptop yet lol. I really appreciate the silence of the M1 macbook (and the 10 hour battery life). I will say, the Ally is incredibly capable as a desktop PC. So smooth
The game profiles are sooooo good, I can have all day my ally in silence mode and when I pop a game I don't need to manually change the power, great vid man
I've had the Ally for about 5 months now, but i never knew about the quick control thing what you showed at the beginning. Thank you, really helpful 🙏🙏
@@VelvetMagician Great, had an absolute blast, of course some issues still prevail to this day, such as the OS being glitchy at times, controls being clunky, but ASUS did a really great job improving and fixing the issues on the ROG Ally. Performance is still the same as the day i first got my hands on it if not better.
@@drift_peter7045 Hi! What about battery life? Like I mentioned in comments above, planning to play on 15 w (games like Elden Ring, Fallout 4, Death Stranding etc). Will I have at least 1hr without plug in? Thanks!
This is a great tips video. It’s comprehensive and easy to comprehend for people new to pc gaming. I wish I would have found this when I first bought my ally. Great job 👍🏿
I've been looking at one of these systems for well over a month. It's between the ally or the Legion go. i like to do some research first, and I would be new to this type of system. With all the kicking updates and kick this and that, I wish to thank you as you have stopped me from wanting this type of machine/system.
Fun device to play around with but seriously the number of updates is just crazy. The last two days I think all I've done is discover and download updates.
This is a perfect guide. I personally still don't buy one, but this video comprehensively explains what should I expect from a Windows operating game console. Thanks!
Let’s fucking goo. Getting mine in a few hours and I had a rog strix that was amazing yet needed a little help like these to truly unlock it. Great guide.
Just got my rog ally yesterday! I’m not even done with your video and I’m already loving it. Thanks for the big help. BRB I need to do another update lol. Btw you got my sub for your channel 💯
Nice one and thank you. I've had the rog ally since launch and just out of boredom, I applied some of these tips Esp the image sharpening and my games now look awesome!!! Thanks!!!!!
Thanks bro, just got one off marketplace for $300 🤣 some idiot sold his to upgrade the new one it’s in perfect condition barely used. Im running nice fps on xdefiant. Bomb video
thanks for this amazing video, I´m really new to this gaming PC world so I dont understand a lot of concepts related to performance, this video was really helpful
wow calibrating the triggers made a big difference especially in forza, had to adjust in game settings to get 100% throttle and brake, after calibrating i went back to default settings and was able to get 100% throttle and brake no problem
All updates and settings sure have been a pain have a slow wifi connection so it's already been half a day and still haven't finished 😂 but this video is awesome thx! Very helpful
Didn't actually watch it all cause most I already knew from following you! But I got to say this should be required viewing for new ally owners haha Fantastic! Also this could be called: Filterless ally 2023 year in review😅 Edit: Shared this on Reddit if that's ok with you:)
Haha thanks man!! And yeah feel free to share it anywhere. I created this as sort of an "All-In-One" guide to help make it easier to learn about the Ally. One of the tips that I'm not sure if you've done to yours yet, but you can change the power button to "Hibernation". It's basically like quick resume on the Steam Deck. It's been working great in every game so far.
Amazing job. I would add debloating windows, deleting all the unnecessary apps, services and turning off animations and transparency. Also I still don't know how Windows Power settings would affect the performance. (Best Battery, Balanced and Best Performance.) (eg. Turbo Setting with Best Battery power setting.)
Thanks :). Unfortunately Armoury Crate immediately overrides the windows power settings when switching profiles. So if you're on Performance and set it to Best Power Efficiency, it'll go back to Best Performance in windows as soon as you use Silent/Turbo and then go back to Performance. One way to bypass this is to set Battery saver to "Always" on. Then just uncheck the "Lower screen brightness" setting. I like Best Power Efficiency from my testing (I use G-Helper which allows me to bypass AC). It keeps the CPU clocks down and gives the same performance.
I don't have one of these, but correct me if I am wrong here, but doesn't the trigger setting under the calibrate triggers section of the video not do what you said? You said when you fully held it down it only went to like 90%. Isn't this a more a way to set how hard you want to press to get 100%? I realize I could be wrong, but it feels more like a setting you could do to only hold the button down slightly and get full trigger pull instantly in something like a shooter so there is no delay in your shots as you had to pull the trigger all the way to get there. Meaning, wherever it is set at for how far you have to pull the trigger to get there is where the system will consider a 100% pull? If I worded that correctly. lol One more way I could say it, could you go into that setting and slightly just barely touch the triggers and set it there and then go into a driving game and get full gas at that amount of trigger pull? Or a shooter and get a shot right when you touch the trigger? Even then I realize if you want finer control of the gas in the driving games then you would want the full 100%, that was just another way of saying what I was thinking. lol
Hey, yeah you can change the trigger deadzones on a per game basis. So you could bring the full range down to where it'll register a full press when just barley pulling it. The reason to calibrate the triggers first though is a lot of Ally's won't register 100%. So even with a full press, sometimes it'll only register 90% or so. I found this out on 2 separate Ally's I had, and then a lot of comments on other videos I have where people are experiencing the same thing. After you calibrate them though, then you could just go into the game profile and adjust the trigger deadzone for that game down. Then you'll get a much shorter press for it to activate. Hope the info helps :)
very interesting and extremely helpful stuff for new users like me. MUCH appreciated. I wanted to add that with the latest updates, many of the settings you suggest are already done by default. I think Asus is cheating from you video xD Thanks again and subscribed for future tips as well.
So true with Windows 😂. I ended up giving up on Windows laptops recently and switched fully to Mac for every day use (which has its own set of flaws, but worth the trade off to no longer use Windows).
Amazing guide! Just curious, why don't you like RSR? Seems in some games this boosts FPS substantially and I can barely notice the visual quality difference.
Hey thanks! The reason I don't use it is it's not consistent. Some games have huge performance hits with RSR like Starfield. Also, the games have to be launched below native resolution to work. And in games like Diablo 4, or other "windowed fullscreen" games, it doesn't work unless you set the desktop resolution to 900p or less. It's just a bit of a pain to use IMO and I prefer RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening). It works with 0 performance impact and it works at all resolutions (1080p, 900p, etc). However, I know a lot of people like the RSR quality over the sharpened look RIS gives. So if you like it, I say keep using it :)
Fantastic video! Glad you put the amd image sharpening comparisons in the video. Makes a big difference. Is anything like that available for the steam deck oled?
There are scaling options that include sharpening on Steam Deck, but the resolution has to be below 800p and I found it's not worth it IMO. I prefer to just run 800p with a 45FPS cap on most games, then adjust the graphics settings to make sure it maintains 45FPS.
