ONE BIG SUGGESTION I have for ya'll if you could consider using the giant video wall behind you to project gameplay of the game the whole time you're talking about it would be dope. A little cutoff of the image with the boys sitting there I wouldn't even mind, but while you guys were chatting I was watching a Gamespot video of the game in action and it added so much to the experience.
This sounds great, exactly what I was hoping to hear from the reviews. I'm very like Bless in that I've never played an Armored Core game and am a very recent FromSoft fan over the last few years, so what he's saying really speaks to me here. A quick glance of reviews seems to show that the story is the biggest critique - but it's a From game so that wasn't why I was interested. What I care about is the gameplay & combat, level design, sound, boss battles etc - and it sounds like From have done it again here
I love that Tim hears all this glowing praise for the game and even gets recommended to play it but he’s too afraid to play something outside of his comfort zone lol
I'm still baffeled that he refuses to play From Software's other games. I remember when he was raving about SIFU and pretty much everything he loved about that game can be applied to From Software games.

I think the majority of players will be coming into Armored Core having never played the series before, so I'm glad to have Blessing's perspective on it.
The whole reason the Soul series even exists is because of the success of the Armored Core series. This is the revival of the game series where FromSoftware made its bones.
I feel like way too many reviewers place too much emphasis on story and not enough on gameplay. As someone who grew up on Atari 2600 and in the arcades, gameplay is pretty much my entire focus and all I want from a story is for it to not be too cringy, cheesy or annoying. I appreciate Blessing being able to rate a game a 5 based on it’s gameplay!
What you guys are describing sounds exactly like the first Armored Core. The gameplay sounds the same, just with modernized controls. The first game had whole ass platforming levels too.

Starfield lost all attention from me when Bethesda got bought by Microsoft and said it's gonna be exclusive. If I ever get a PC I might give it another look.

Queue the FTC case, which eventually ended with an FTC faceplant and eventually Sony accepted a deal that only included Activision games, not all games. So blame Sony for being dipshits.
Armored Core's been hit or miss with names, but coming off Armored Core V: Verdict Day, I'd say Fires of Rubicon is damn good. Here's hoping From Software continues the Armored Core Number + Sequal/Spinoff standard. Every single AC game has had one or more games released that are Squals, Prequals or Side Stories to the last. AC1 and AC2 as well as AC4 and AC5 are also cononicaly linked cross gen with AC3 having four titles in it's continuity(Techincaly 6 including Nine Breaker and Formula Front).
as a big mech head, we need another steel battalion that is proper with crazy controller, a new mechassault entry for the love of "insert deity of your choosing", and a new proper front mission game.
I feel like it would be great if kindafunny had a 5+ or 5* level for reviews for the true masterpieces. Better than amazing. Im thinking how skill up adds the *very* to strongly recommend reviews for totk, re4 remake or elden ring for example. Just an idea
I'm happy to hear it's in the 20 hour range. I was thinking about not playing it if it was 40+ hours mostly because I don't have a ton of time and I want to complete it before starfield. Great review!
I hope that bamco lets FS have another shot at making a gundam breaker or another century's episode game after AC6 and they give it the SRT eng version treatment~
Its really cool to see a first time player of the armored core games like Blessing just "get it" so quickly and understand what the series tends to go for as I was worried ALOT of reviewers would find the customisation and disconnected "mercenary" styled story telling to be hard to wrap their head around, but sounds like the game atleast captures the spirit of the ac series well if newer players to the series get it. Hope that gives Blessing the incentive to give the older games a try. barring some outdated control schemes the gameplay of a lot of the older ac games holds up well.
Think about all the souls like games we played, and how far they’ve come they had to start somewhere. Go way way back to demon souls hold that up to any of today’s games and we would say it needs work. I would think that armored core is the first few steps in a genre. They hopefully can develop further. Remember we were not playing solos like games before until the genre was created. Now the mech genre has existed for a long time, but I think it needs a fresh coat of paint, and if they can put a fresh coat of paint on it, and then inspire others or release new games in the future themselves that take us to the next level, I’ll be more than happy to give them my support and my doctors
Personally what I find funny about Armored Core's naming is that it's so damn similar to another game. Armored Core (AC) 6: Fires of Rubicon and Ace Combat (AC) 6: Fires of Liberation. It's been a joke in the Ace Combat space for a while now that if you say AC6, you have to specify Ace Combat or Armored Core.
Such a lovely and positive review. I totally geeked out when Barret (is that how you spell it?) said they used a voice actor from MHA. My family are huge fans lol. Can't wait to try this later today.
Some of the AC games are connected but most people can just think of it like Final Fantasy. AC1-2 are in the same universe along with its sequel games and AC4-5 are in the same universe along with their sequel games but 3 is its own thing along with the spinoff titles.
It plays like a updated Damon Ex Machina. I love both these games and that smooth flowing gamplay. Though Armor Core has a much better flow to its gamplay and its sword combat is much smoother than Damon's which felt stiff and took you out of the flow of combat.
I feel you guys are underselling how difficult this game are. There are couple of bosses in chapter 1 I have spent a long time on. I'm on Balteus and I already have 7 hours in the game. I'm not sure how this game can be finished inn 20 hours, when there is like 4 chapters more after this. With this pace, the game is going to take me 35 hours to finish.
I had such skepticism about this game since it was just a niche series that a specific part of mech fans loved for years. But I think Bless convinced me on it!
There is truly nothing that could get me into this game. They were so glowingly positive about it, but I look at that gameplay and think that it just doesn't look like a fun time.
Oh God now AC6is great....but I'm playing BG3...I need to go finish Diablo....Starfield drops in a few weeks.....Spider-Man 2 and Forza drop the month after....this is just insane....

I might be in the minority but I've always been the type to play a game once and move on. Maybe I'll replay it in a few years if it was really good, but that's how I've always aproached single player games. But the muliplayer looks insane!
The AC games are made to be replayed, most other games are not. I don't know about 6, but previous games would literally have different missions for different story endings meaning that re-playing it was experiencing entirely new content
Replaying will be extremely necessary to get the real story, if the statements are true that it has a branching Story like "For Answer" and "Last Raven"

Reviewers said it runs at 50fps on high settings. Also fromsoft said they're working hard on making it run well on SD so it should be fine :)

Barret cam is a great edition. Much preferred going to see him pop-up than hearing disembodied voice. Also great discussion for a great game.

Heard the game has several new game plus playthroughs with their own endings, plus some rumored secret endings. Which is From Software standard.
