Nice demo! I may have a project for this unit. A small desk monitor for on of my ip cameras and alarm system monitoring. It just the right size to mount on my bed side table!
If it functions nicely , I will fire up Fusion360 and make a case for it.
Thanks for the video, your new product demos always keep me busy. 😎
After seeing this I had to get creative and make a mini CRT tv 📺 for my pi. Thanks for the video.
Adding the the Pi as a bluetooth device to my car as an audio device would be awesome to play some retro games on lunch in my car!!
@@VSMOKE1 Because I'm a Pi enthusiast. I like the tinkering, and I know how it works.
@@VSMOKE1 agreed, but I don't have the income to do that so I work with what I have
Sounds fun
Ordered the case/screen (from your link, trying to support in some little way) but I just finished installing the screen and I'm pretty impressed so far, it's small but i have good eyes to read. Needed only a small calibration via Kali Linux (yes it works on Kali Linux) and now it's working perfectly! 10/10 would buy again!
damn, I enjoyed your comment until the "calibration" moment...I'm so lame in Pi
*sigh
@@YuriyBraterskyy it's extremely easy, just got to the menu (similar to the "start" menu in windows) and there is a touchscreen calibration menu option. Once in the tool all you do is use the stylus to touch the 4 points on the screen (marked with a "+" shape) and Bam, done lol
@@DaPanda19 love you 🙌🏼 Thanks!
hmm, Retropi with Dual Screen Support and a 3DS Style Case, this is a idea, Retroflag???
someone really needs to do this
That’s smart
I aldready built it
@GAMERX Ani Can u show me? i dont think its real srry (please tell me if it is :D)
@@gamerxani9575 you have the commands that allow the rasperry to display on the small touch screen and hdmi at same time ?
Ordered first thing this morning. Supposed to be here Friday. I saw several other variants of this setup and they had closed cases. Fans with closed cases are a less than efficient design. I'm hoping this sorta open design will be a little better. I use fans on three Pi4B+'s in and out of cases and they keep my Pi's considerably cooler and have yet to experience any throttling.
Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what the intended use is. Maybe if someone had a Pipboy they wanted to make based on a Raspberry Pi this might be pretty ideal, otherwise it almost seems to small for most things, and yet to bulky for others.
It does have a pretty limited set of use cases, but it's a pretty solid new entry for them, especially if you look at many of the other SPI displays out there.
I have something similar that I got super cheap and had to fiddle with a little bit to get it to work. I couldn't even tell you the name brand of the display but I can tell you that it has came in handy a lot.
at 4:55 in your video, you have a transition that doesn't tell how you got there. did you boot into retropie, or did you use emulationstation inside the desktop GUI interface? when I try to boot directly into retropie I get an error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error' what(): basic_string::_M_construct null not valid Aborted
Hey dude, I have been watching your channel for a bit now, and I dig your reviews. Have you seen a decent case, with screen, and an internal battery for the pi 3 or 4?
What about a video in wich you build a full mobile emulation pi, with battery, screen and sound included.
I think it would be awesome.
:)
he has
Can you still use the HDMI?
Like could I have that screen just during htop while doing stuff from the HDMI port as normal screen?
I'm assuming, because it connects through the GPIO and you don't need to edit the config.txt file to suit one screen, I think you can use the HDMI ports in addition to this screen. Once again, I'm not 100% sure.
@@kingwaffl3iii No you can not.
Its working over SPI, and the script edits the config.txt.
You have to edit it back to use HDMI.
You either need two HDMI Displays or some code shenanigans to maybe use hdmi and spi.
Very good review, thanks! One thing that could be improved is how tiny the cli text was in this video. It was barely legible with the video in full screen on a 24" monitor. I like the setup with the controller. You could just plug in a set of earbuds with a 3.5" jack for sound, right? Or maybe you could even use some sort of bluetooth sound device. Thanks again.
Was just looking at this earlier today. Nice to see that it runs smoith like this. Not a fan of the layered case though.
Ah yes i like smoith running screens

Wow that looks really nice great video as always also will you do a video on the switch lite?
I wonder if there would be a way to take an old android phone like the original Galaxy and stuff the pi4 in its shell connect the Galaxy's screen to it and use the phones battery to power it. All the while coding a drive for the headphone Jack to work saudered onto the pi4 board.
Are there any screens that run from the IO header like this but don't steal ALL the header pins for themselves?
Problem with these screens for retro gaming is they arent 4:3 aspect ratio. So your gonna either have black bars or stretching.
If your goal is to emulate several systems on one display, you have to be prepared to face that a lot of them operated at odd aspect ratios. People who buy these know precisely what they're getting into.
Sounds like a paragraph from cougars monthly
The gba was a 3:2 aspect ratio.
Use bezels. 😁
I purchased one yesterday to strap to my Pi4. Now just gotta wait a few weeks while it ships!
These screen are great if you want to create an interface to control something.
That's a nice setup. Where did you get the mount for that controller?
Ok my question is can I use a hdmi cord and plug it to my phone. To make it a extra screen like a DSLR camera? Fot recording.
hi friend
thanks for the tutorial!
can you please tell me which pins the display use??
Just thinking, can OSMC play on this screen size ? Example like music player project
can u use both hdmi ports like touch screen and monitor in one time?
What happens if you have a television or monitor plugged in at the same time via hdmi? Can it display on both screens at once?
It has 2 hdmi outputs for 2 screens
If it’s both via HDMI then yes, it’ll display both, if you have a TFT screen you can only see one, or TFT or HDMI
What stylus were u using ?! Samsung or any other brand ?!
I installed everything and after the reboot. It was stuck on a colorful screen. Can you help?
Same here stuck on the colour full screen
i have got a 3.5'' lcd touch screen on a raspberry pi 4 B were do i find the code for the touch screen
Hello I could install raspian, but I have other sd with batocera, I though that if I installed this drives I´ll can use other sd too. please can you help me, What need to use my other sd with games?
This display is giving the rainbow screen ETA, it use to work last year. I am using it with a pi4 4gb, official raspbian image, no overclocking, official pi power adaptor, the same driver you are using in the video and the rainbow screen persists. I have tried asking on discord, many provided solution, but nothing seems to be working.
I don't have this exact display, but at least on mine I can scale the resolution in raspi-config up to 1080p and it makes the ui smaller, and tricks the pi into thinking it's running on a better screen, and honestly, it works well! (except for the refresh rate which is why I'm getting the one you're showing)
How to add intenal speaker? Can a 8 ohm 1 watt speaker (for GBA) use for this case?
Where I can buy this "iUniker Screen" ? because in amazon dont have anymore
I wonder if they have an I2C or SPI variety of this screen?
can i use my old iphone 4 lcd as the display? bcs i don't have money to buy a screen like that
great tutorial. thx. and it worked fine on my normal OS build. Is there any way you could create a tutorial on getting that screen to work on the Pi4 Lakka build? git command doesnt work and I cant figure out how to install git on the Lakka build. THANKS!
How do u get retropie in to the operating system?
I have only etched retroipe straight onto the card
I have two touch screen 3.5 for my raspberry pi 3 but never knew what scrip to run to make it run. Maybe you can send some help my way. Also I wish I knew where you got your rooms from for your emulators. I know you wont say. But you can always message me personally
How to resize screen when changing from monitor to 3.5 touch screen?? It's coming up pixelated on my monitor ? Thanks
Hi! How did you install RetroPie on top of Raspbian with a 3.5 inch touchscreen? I can't get retropie to work on top of Raspbian :-/
can you use it with windows? or manjaro ?
I want to ask something if I do same thing on video
Can I power up with powerbank and how many hours does it last ?
I use Xiaomi mi power bank 2s
İt is power out like (5.1V 2.4A--9V 1.6A--12V 1.2A)
And it is 10000 mAh
Thanks. Previously I was avoiding these screens because they were using a specific version of the system build by the seller: it was a no go for me. Now I see drivers are on git, so it means it's possible to buy a screen and get the driver separately. It's starting to be interesting!
May you provide some links?
Is there a kit to make raspberry portable ? A kit that can make you carry without wires while it’s still on
You should have whistled Megaman’s music while playing it! 😄
what's is the name of controller you use in the video?
I have Kali Linux installed as my OS so how would I go about installing the driver since the script runs into different issues?
OK so there's these pre made LCD screens with USB plugs and fire stick is cheaper than a raspberry pi and it still games can you put firestick into a raspberry pi pre made LCD screen and make it work
Where did you get your version of RetroPie for the RPi4???
And how did you get it to work on RetroPie since you need a driver
Is there any screen for the raspberry pi that is cheap small (around the size of a smartphone/tablet screen) with no touchscreen
When i rebooted my raspberry pi it was and still is stuck in a white screen, how do i fix this
Did you solve it?
@@yaellopezmontoya2091 srry I haven’t noticed your comment, I just gave up on it, but i bought an rpi 5 and I’m kinda just experimenting with the 4 but I have not gotten the screen to work
How do I do all this.
But with Retropie installed
Where did you bougth the game control?
Can you still use keyboard and mouse with this
Yes
So I have tried this recently, and both times it has destroyed my distro install, both on raspberry pi os, and Manjaro arm xfce. Is there a fix out there?
That would be cool using it for a headless server. Monitor temperature. I wonder how hot it gets given it has a fan.
How would a cheap 3.5" waveshare screen perform on pi4? On the pi2/3 its terible fps wise. Not sure if the limitation is on the pi spi bus or the tft's spi.
I know this is ways back but i have this screen and after a clean install the screen does not want to work any more. It boots up to black screen I only hear the fan working. Tnx in advance
Sounds like your screen is bad or under powered. Even if it was configured improperly, it should still show a white blank screen if it is receiving power.
Now is there a way to get sound with this setup ? or just add a speaker ? please help
Is it possible to have all your rom savestate files synced between your computer or nvidia shield or raspberry and your phone?
I love playing old school games on the tv but it sucks having to connect my phone manually before leaving to continue playing on the go.
That would be a cool how to video.
This is kinda neat. I've been thinking about adding a touchscreen to my motorcycle using a Pi running Crankshaft (openauto/androidauto). I wonder how well a small screen like that would work for looking at maps, or if Crankshaft can 480x320
Hi there. Nice vid. Thanks. A question though: can you plug and unplug the screen while the Pi is running?
Hi. I'm trying to connect similar screen (MPI 4008) to camera HDMI output. But it shows lines of noise instead of image.
Camera and screen are working ok separately with other devices. There's barely any settings in camera for video output - resolution (1080p, 1080i and Auto), that's all.
Can anyone help me with information about how to connect it properly? I'm trying to make cheap external monitor.
does the 5 inch screen still works on the pi via the gpio and hdmi input?
Q: Is there any form of battery for the raspberrypi 4 when using this kit thanks in advance
Where can i buy this exact model of touchscreen?
Can You still use gpio pins for one player controller on retropie?
there is any tearing test on this screen ? greetings and thanks for the video
Can Pi 4 support a 21 inch (or bigger) touch screen?
What if I have Retropie installed already???
Good video as always. How do you run Retropie on Pi 4?
Would the screen work on the pi zero if I put a pin header on it?
I am thinking of trying to use this for audio streamer that I would send digital audio from Tidal to my USB DAC. Would this display the song, album artwork and such?
I just got done emailing back and fourth with iUniker to get a Driver made for KaliPi (Sticky Fingers).
I'm planning to run android on my RPi 4 using this screen. Do i need to install the driver for the screen on android too? Or it's just plug and play?
i think that a browser plugin that forces/requests the mobile version of a website would help with web browsing
@Nuke Dukem There's a lot more to being intelligent than randomly calling people idiots, unfortunately. You haven't sold us yet!
Hey man, big fan of your videos. Any plans to do one on the state of emulation on iOS devices? Recently Apple released a current firmware (12.4) that was jail breakable so a TON of people took the opportunity to jail break. It would be awesome to see a video from someone with your level of expertise on how iOS compares to Android when it comes to emulation. Apple has some crazy fast processors in the past few generations of devices and it would be great if the emulation community showed them some love and optimized a few emus to the level that they are on Android.
Can you please link the code you used for the screen please, the link mine came with is for pi 3b
it's compatible with ubuntu server for raspberry?
That's cool. Looking forward to see what projects you might do with it next.
Will that much screen work with our finger
Is it ok for raspberry Pi model 4b?
Man, Is possible to add a case after installing the screen ? , thanks.
Is there a right angle adapter for the 40 pin? I could see using this on a stack to display component temps and the like
What 7 inch screen would you recommend.
can use it also with windows 10 on rasperry pi?
Doesnt the touch screen from the pi 3 work in the 4?
Could you still do a dual screen setup thru this amd one of the mini hdmi's?
Could it works in recarbox instead o retropi?
What is drive Lcd 3.5 retropie?
Bro ,I want to add Google map with location and navigate in that display ,and want to use it for the electronic bike.plese tell is it possible. Please help me
If you hit TAB while typing, it will autocomplete the script etc name. Feel free to do that in the future :)
I just Order mine about hour ago for Raspberry 3
Do this iuniker work with raspberry pi 4 with Kali Linux?
Whats about running the Screen with kali?
Goto Preferences - Appearance Settings - Defaults.. click on For small screens: Set Defaults.. then OK screen will fir 3.5in no problem
Is there going to be a successor to the Pi Zero? Maybe the first or second quarter of next year?
I'm trying to think of anything they could do to make the Zero better. Other than lower power usage I can't think of anything it needs. If you need more power there are other boards available.
In the description you call it 480×320 HD, how is that HD?? DVD's put out 720×480, which is SD. Am I missing something?
Yeah, the raspberry pi is much more of a toy than a useful device. A shit $100 phone easily has better resolution.
@@RandomPlaceHolderName I think you are confused between the raspberry pi and the screen. The rasp pi will happily output 1080p all day long.
@@lmaoroflcopter Merely pointing out that a case, a screen and a raspberry pi combo is more of a gadget than a good value product.
@@lmaoroflcopter the Pi 4 can output full 4K (3840x2160) when connected to a display that can take it.
