      Did you try adding the fps fix seen on pcgamingwiki ?
      Might help with performance on the dual core system.
      The Dinput8 dll fix.

      Excellent job, you gave the game the justice it deserved, one of my alltime favorites! And I agree, if you're into retro skip the pre 2006 era harware for this one and preferably go with a nice modern 27"+ display and 8800gtx or 4870 1gb card, it looks absolutely amazing.

    F.E.A.R. holds up incredible. That visual style reminds me of stalker and half life 1 - perfect for making you feel uneasy anywhere you go. Dynamic lights look awesome even today because they are so pronounced. And the gameplay is one of a kind - Trepang2 tried, and it's cool, but it's not as good as it's main inspiration.
    Also - amazing video, subbed!

    Ah yes, the better Doom 3. FEAR may not look as good as D3 in some areas but it mops the floor with it when it comes to gameplay and tension.

    • @gutsygutman2475
      @gutsygutman2475 5 месяцев назад +2

      Doom 3 was a slog chore like mopping the floor compared to FEAR. I choose to replay FEAR at least 5 times compared to zero for Doom.

      IDK, Doom 3 is a good game IMO. The problem is, people wanted a DOOM game (see D2016 / Eternal as reference), but got a random action horror set in (kinda? maybe?) the same universe.
      It's like Quake and Quake 2, or Far Cry and Far Cry 2.

    • @MidnightGeek99
      @MidnightGeek99  5 месяцев назад +1

      The better Doom 3 =))))

    Worth trying the dinput fps fix on the game as you should get more out of that pc.

    My personal minimum requirements for FEAR are Athlon 64 and GF6, which was more than I had at the time. I played F.E.A.R. on xbox360 as a result.

    guys making such videos is really time consuming, requiring real research, true experience and having the actual hardware comps to make such vid possible. Let's all support the creator with at least 2 minutes of watch time for the video and a like so the algorithm pushes it further to more retro gaming interested people

    Midnight geek: Ah yes, 640x480 at 23 FPS with 4200Ti is ok, kinda playable.
    Meanwhile me: VSR 7680x4320 scaled to native 4K on RX 6900XT not enough, can still see aliasing.
    Also, one of the few games that I know of actually well balanced for the highest difficulty, as long as you have at least somewhat above average skill. In fact, I spent 2/3 of the game with 10 med kits (maximum inventory).

      a lot of game run really great on the Radeon 9800 Pro i’m really surprise, the only problem i find is the price of some old part, in my country 🇫🇷 this is ridiculous low price but i’m not found all unfortunaly, and in Ebay for exemple this is ridiculous high price last day i watching for the Northwood HT 3.4GHz 512kb not a Extreme Edition
      150 euros seriously 😳 this is most expensive them the entire price i pay for this build 😅, i buy for the moment a Northwood 3.2GHz for 10 euros and cross my fingers for OC in 3.8 adding a Noctua Fan for the Northbridge too and a RGB system but you know the secret hack the RGB give you 20fps+ for sure 🤣🤣

      but you right too i show for the Nvidia too for little collection of AGP card and Bench and compare the frame rate.

    Did you turn off the hyperthreading on the p4 3ghz? I always used to get better performance with mine (using a 6600gt agp) back in the day after turning the HT off in the bios menu. They always had hyperthreading enabled on P4's at or over 3ghz.

    • @MidnightGeek99

      Yeah, sometimes HT can result in worst performance in games, but no, I usually don't disable HT, unless it's for testing purposes.

  • @Pidalin
    @Pidalin 5 месяцев назад

    I will wait for actual reviews from real gamers, you obviously got that game for free for review. 😀 BTW, input lag which you feel in mouse is mostly caused by long frametime because of low FPS, actual input lag of display is just very small part of all those lags combined. I never saw that slow display that it would cause delayed mouse. Motion blur yes, ofcourse, but not literally delayed mouse just because of monitor, that's fault of too long frametime due to low fps. But in some games, mouse just feels weird and you can't do anything with that.
    Widescreen support was added in 1.08 if I remember it correctly and I think datadisks don't actually support wide screen, but maybe they already fixed it in today gog and steam versions. VA panel is the best for the best shadows and contrast, but I would say that 8ms IPS feels faster than 5ms VA or 2ms TN, manufacturers are lying ot using weird methods how to measure that.

    • @MidnightGeek99
      @MidnightGeek99  5 месяцев назад

      10x for the comment :)
      I was using the 1.0.8 retail version, that's why I had widescreen.
      Trust me, the Eizo S2100 has a lot of input lag, even if I'm using my modern PC, it's not about the freamerate, although the framerate pushes it even lower.
      I love VA panels, like you've said, for the good contrast, nothing beats good contrast.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin 5 месяцев назад

      @@MidnightGeek99 The most important is that it is REAL contrast, not some fake nonsenses like "dynamic contrast" or local dimming which can cause artifacts and for some reason, computer displays never actually adopted local dimming. I have 5ms VA and contrast is really good, but I feel like it's actually slower than my older 8 ms IPS DEL, but it's pretty old 4K screen from 2017, today they have much faster and even with more Hz.
      BTW, with new tools in nvidia and AMD drivers on modern computers, 4K displays are pretty good for retro gaming, you can finally use more scaling methods and play those games like if it was native even when it's 800x600 or something and you can't change it.
