The great thing about taking the excess out of the shoulder seams is you can adjust this dress too.

I would take the excess out of the shoulder seam and add that amount to the bottom of the bodice piece ( if needed).

Sweetie, I think you can fix this problem a lot easier. Take your shoulder seams up just on the neck side. Start at the arm side right where you have the seam now, and gradually make it larger until you get to the neck side, about an extra 1/2 inch on the seam might do it.. That might be an easier solution, although the 1/2 " is just an estimate. Put it on inside out and pinch at the inside (Neck side) of the shoulder seam. Let me know if you try this and it works. Thanks, Kathy B.

I love that dress! It looks like a small fba would solve your issues. There is a drag line right at the top of the bust where the fabric is getting caught because it is slightly too tight. It should also lengthen the front slightly which should help the empire waist fit better and any gaping should be cleared up. That dress has gathers at the waist so it will add a bit to the gathers but it should be pretty easy (don’t forget to lengthen the facing piece and inset if necessary), I always do fba’s and it usually results in other fit issues disappearing. Give it a try and see what you think 😊 hope to catch your live tomorrow!

Really? HUH! I never even thought of that. The thing is the upper bodice gapes and slides off my shoulders when I am sitting.

@@TheWanderingSewistI think that might be because it’s getting caught at the bust so rather than naturally resting on your shoulders, it’s getting pushed up from the bust. It might be worth doing a mock up with some scrap fabric.

Can you explain fba please? I might be having a dense brain fart here and will be like oh yeah silly me. I often get caught on acronyms.

I would change the angle of the shoulder seam (as you referenced) and sew a quick bodice only muslin to find any other adjustments necessary. You want your shoulder seams to stay on your shoulders. 😘
