I filled in on base for Tom Fowler when he broke his finger on tour in 74. I was there long enough to record some with him and have many late nite convos. I loved him as a person. As a musician, just a genius. Straight forward, unassuming, funny, witty, brilliant, upbeat, should I go on? I miss him. I'd vote for him for president in a heartbeat over what we have now. Frank, you left us way too soon. RIP.
Zappa pres, Carlin vice. That's been my ticket for a while.
Fabulous story for a mere mortal life myself. He was such an intriguing person. We have mess on our hands now.
That is so cool man
You must be a monster bassist!
@@sluwisch Hi Anon, Not sure I was a monster lol, but I sure loved to play. I retired from the road about 10 years ago and by that time my heart and life had changed and my music went from secular music to Gospel Music and I had by that time learned to play several instruments. I now have a youtube channel BirdYoumans and there I do Gospel music vids as well as doing an Old Time Gospel Music Friday night sing along via livestream on youtube at 9 PM Eastern. If you'd like to check out what I'm doing now here's the link to my channel:

Have a good one! Blessings, Bird
Frank Zappa: Good guys do sex.
Good/Bad,Everybody does SEX!
This dude was ahead of his time and is literally the only dude that mirrors my standpoints.
your right I feel the same way
he would write a song about your silly use of "dude". unless you are 20... stop. it is okay to be a frown up. Frank is proof./
His take on the electoral process is exactly what I have felt in my heart of hearts for about 25 years now. Thanks Frank.
Why can't people interview like the guy asking questions in this vid? Real topics, then let em talk. Never appreciated Zappa. I do now.
+Jeff Moore I couldn't agree more! They are out there but few and far between these days. Juan Gonzales is a good example in my humble opinion. Frank was a brilliant light on this planet and happened to also be an artist that caught the attention of the media. I have found that equivalents, although each unique from each other, seem to persist even if in a quiet existence. Thankfully!
Your list is a little random, but quite on point.
I don't "get" Zappa's music, but that's probably not his fault. These interviews are a reminder to keep my ears open.
Me too. He sounds like he would be a yuge Trump supporter. He just described his preference in someone like Trump for president. Zappa is the man.
+HKevin Paulson Thank God for the few of us who actually get the music, sadly we're a small minority. Get ready to start saying ""I told you so" forever.
es ist nicht hat er Trump suported, ausserdem das ist unmoeglich,Zappa is dead and gone....aber Trump hate kaine Anung uber Zappa Ideas, trump is onlly Funtion...ideen sind in Luft, sagen wir so das,Luft und luft...schmuzige Luft ? oder saubere Luft...circulationen...scribomanen,lumpenproleteren (gibt es so etwas noch imer?,warum nicht.ich bin some kind of this poeple....also lumpenproleter, don't feel sorry about me...that's is my choise,my kind of sagen wir das so,virtual living...sonst bin ich ein Schrifsteller ohne Still....habe gern bisschen plagieren und fotokopieren...
Want to hear the entire interview in a single Zappa Song? Trouble Every Day
Frank was a true American hero, and one badass guitarist - sadly underrated on both counts.
Zappa was so intelligent that there were many organizations that courted him to chair various seats, but he stayed clear because he refused to trust anyone..... I saw him in Cincinnati, Oh in the 70's and it was one of the best concerts of my life....Jean-luc-Ponty was with him then, but his whole band was so tight it was unbelievable.Dweezil Zappa is a great guitarist in his own right. Zapppa is sorely missed.
zappa predicts trump
+youandwhosearmy? far worse than the Donald, is Hitlery the Wicked Witch of the West. Her only objective is to be in power to perpetuate the communist / socialist transformation begun by Obola the virus in the WH - she's never been a role model / defender of women (just look at how she angrily stomped on anyone Bill "used" who could topple his presidency or tarnish his image. Look into who the biggest donors to the Clinton Foundation are and you may get an idea of who she'll be taking orders from.
Paul Morris,You couldn't be more correct. Zappa's long been a guy I've liked &respected enormously on many levels. His politics would be as fantastic as Disneyland, unfortunately that's how realistic they were/are to.
Paul Morris is a conspiracy nut-job with zero facts.
frogblues Yep, these Hillary-hating MAGAts are the ones who deal in alternative facts and asinine conspiracy theories like the so-called Deep State and Pizzagate. #FkkkTrump
Paul Morris You're a f*cking idiot. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and get a brain before posting another comment. Until then, keep your Sean Hannity-approved bullsh*t to yourself 'cause you have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
speaking of the presidents "doing sex" thing, it's so funny that like three years after he died the whole monica lewinsky scandal happened. I'll bet you anything that would've made for a very funny zappa track somewhere, some way down the line.
Someone still can, you know
Frank: Nixon was "the lowest ebb in US politics until Reagan..."
2020: Hold my beer...
This series is a great interview, Zappa always gave good interviews, some better depending on the interviewer and the questions of course, but the guy was always razor sharp and focused and spoke honestly. I love his interviews almost as much as his music.
welp. Nader tried the third ballot and no one was knocking on his door to get his opinion. A shame too, if anyone is qualified to run a country, it's Ralph.
Awesome; thanks for uploading
Thanks for posting this...FZ is sadly missed.
Frank Zappa is not only a great musician, he was a great man.
I know he'd be proud that people still look up to him almost 25 years after his death. Heck I was born almost a decade after his passing, and I know I'm not alone. He will live in our memory forever.
Rest in peace Frank Zappa.
Yeah probably out building houses for poor people somewhere.
I really like that characterization of Jimmy Carter. I think he was a good president who people lambasted without any good reason. Moreover he was a good human being. and (as of this posting) is still alive and kicking.
And building houses for poor people
@Richard Davis I disagree but maybe you'd care to explain how? he enacted a nearly 19 billion dollar tax cut in 1978 and USA experienced economic growth until 1979 (when the oil embargo happened). Are you blaming the energy crisis and the gas shortage on Carter? And the military? are you referring to Iran or maybe something else?
I've watched the crisis of confidence speech, he was honest. The masses don't want that. He was before my time, I don't know if he was good or bad while in office.
Jimmy Carter is a fine example of a human being. That was why he wasn't a good president- he wasn't a politician.
Mindblowing! What a philosofer!!
Zappa at his best as an interviewee. Relaxed, intelligent and interesting
I think I've been on the Zappa interviews for about that long now. Thank god the Zappa family isn't threatening youtube with legal action.
The one person I will never get a chance to see in concert or listen to him speak! I can explain Frank in three words Intelligent, Artistic, and EPIC! Everything he did was HUGE!
This is the best interviewer of Zappa i have ever heard. Doesn't suck up, doesn't ask stupid questions which close doors.
hes so smooth and has got a great demeanor about him. very nice to listen to. fresh and intelligent
I love this
Zappa would have been an amazing president. Why don't we elect frank and honest people like him? I'll never understand.
He and a Dick Gregory ticket would have been fire
I loved his predictions and observations he made about junkies, their lifestyle and outcome. So true
So sad we lost him so early
Frank is absolutely right on with his view of the government. I feel the same was as he did.
still love your sounds!
Smarter man then most anybody will ever know...he is correct on many of the talking points. US politics is in an epic decline along with the economy worldwide. I would VOTE for a 3rd party now, the other 2 parties are going to destroy the US from within, but can any political party fix anything anymore or is the US now in a long term decline to collapse? Zappa's low key discussion style is perfect, coming across as an honest man with clear perceptions on major issues we are all facing. Great Video series, I almost passed it by...
+FASTGUILD3000 You don't have two parties, you have one party with two heads that uses talking points to divide the populace.
biggoofybastard you have two parties that would do anything to get some money and power
I miss him dearly 😔
@mommyimadeapoopy Smart, witty, sarcastic, musically and intellectually. I still miss him. Had 63 albums of his at one time
frank for president!
Frank for President.
Too late man
Frank for president of the world! ❤️
Interesting perspective. I wonder what Frank Zappa thought of Ralph Nader? Ralph Nader had run as a write in candidate in 1992. Would Frank Zappa have ever been in politics? When was this interview taken?
Funny how you can download all the episodes except the 3rd one?
Zappa was a great musician and author. Now I know he was a great man either.
Yeah, I agree. Frank Zappa whenever debating anything about the real world, was always straight to the point. I would have voted for him.
well at lest he lived up to the name frank lol
I didn't used to think I liked Zappa because the first time I came across his music it seemed overly eccentric or lacking something appealing but after seeing and listening to these Zappa interviews I really dig the dude, he's super intelligent.
same here
I think he was ultimately a liberal minded guy, but didn't support the democratic party. He certainly wasn't socially conservative.
Now that I am more adult I think he's being a bit of an idiot.
A son of Baltimore - be proud! Never particularly liked his music bit appreciated his attitude. A genuine and sincere person who is greatly missed. When will people get a clue?
well we have this today.... but it's Gary Johnson LOL
I don't know how Zappa could have voted for Kennedy, as he was only 19 in November 1960 and the voting age was 21 at the time.
Profound insights. Think about what he is saying in context of what we all have been subjected to 2016 - 2020.
I would of enjoyed to pick your brain and get your opinion and debate you Mr Zappa but this your music and other interviews is all I got
great. have loved FZ since Zoot Allures.makes me miss the guy though.
great interview
"It can't happen here!"
FZ, "Live, in New York"😉😷
Frank as president, what an uplifting concept. Miss the man intently.
Check this out! Did the Donald steal a page from Zappa;s play book?
Dam i love you man!!! Frank but thanks mienfoking, ^^
Where did he get those crater-holes in his head from? Only just noticed them..
So Cool!!!
Lenny Bruce! sweet.
great post
I like the way he thinks
Great visionary.
When did this interview take place?
just before the old bush got inagurated, (in a few weeks), so circa 1 january 1989
Frank was so long ahead of his time what a smart, intelligent, nice, good and a visionary man just love to listen to him. If we people could "Zappasized" ourself in our minds than the world would be a better place to be in i'm sure of that. He's the future human being such a good man
Such a cool, down to earth guy!
1:23 predicting modern campaign strategies in a social media age before there was social media
Yeah, but I don't think Trump is THAT outside the system, as he pretends to be.
He is the fakest of the fake; not, fake news, fake reality, as in, show.
I agree with the larger premise, though.
Lenny Bruce and Frank Zappa!!!! My mind would have loved it!!!! How exciting that must have been. Sure do miss FZ. What a mind. Definitely did NOT blaspheme the mind he was blessed with. Aug 2023.
Frank was so intelligent and had great ideas! We need someone like him to step up ;)
Get some power hungry friends with money behind you, even if you want exude the exact opposite attitude of what Frank Zappa is because you need to win first.
Or go to the background and perform a Rasputin act on the Presidential candidate.
Good luck hippies.
Because than all the collusion scandals will come out and point out hypocrites.
I wish FZ were still around, he would have a field day with the current situation.
I’m a Zappa fan now👍👍
For me he's actually predicting what would happen with Twitter (although I'm guessing he would've hated it), and the likes of Macron. So intelligent with so much humility. You're much missed, Frank.
He saw it as inevitable
Brilliant
I've come to realize what Frank also realized - the entire world we live in is fake. But at the same time, it's the only world we got. You gotta make the best out of it!
A great, great, great man. HELP, I'M A ROCK
In a battle of wits we would all lose to FZ....frank you were the man & weather in music or just talking you are one of my favorite voices. like mommyimadeapoopy said I could listen to frank for hours.
Reminds me of that Man of the Year movie with Robin Willians
Wisdom by a wise man!
I wonder what Frank would've thought about all of the events of the last 10 years....
The way that he describes Nixon’s spying on Americans with such disdain, he would have been horrified by the NSA
Nader tried essentially same thing, in '96. Didn't work
The man is an intellectual enigma
No he's not. He's just a fool with a huge ego.
+hollybyday I meet fools with huge egos everyday. They can't play instruments, compose bizarre delightfully cohesive music, and certainly have never out out 62 albums.
muchos manos are intelectual enigma par excellance Van Morrison our Chuck Barry,,,our Amos Oz,our Balzac...our Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević...Bulat Okudžava...Visotsky.the time has passed by,we forget what we have learned....memory comes and goes and comes again....our is lost forever....all what 'we' can do is demistificatin...what's wrong with this pictures?
hollybyday he might have a huge ego, but he's not a fool.
Joey Ball - Anyone who says that drunken Buzz Aldrin staggered on the moon almost 49 years ago and says that the Charles Manson boogeyman fairy tale is true is either a fool or a liar. Zappa's dad was in the military. Every person in the Charles Manson boogeyman fairy tale had family members that were in the military, including Manson. Paul Tate (Sharon's dad) was a high ranking military intelligence officer, involved in psychological operations during the Vietnam war and oversaw operations at Lookout Mountain. Zappa, with his poo poo jokes and potty mouth lyrics, made all "hippies" look like morons and it couldn't have come at a better time for Nixon, who tried to demonize "hippies" for protesting his multi trillion dollar weapons manufacturing bonanza AKA the Vietnam war. Zappa was a tool for Nixon, creating a stigma for people that were against the war. Zappa was all for the Vietnam war. The best part for him is that he didn't have to go there. His dad and Nixon made sure of that.
Don't forget that Doors singer Jim Morrison's dad was in charge of the Navy Fleet at the Gulf of Tonkin. The Gulf of Tonkin "incident" touched off the Vietnam war. Even the government will tell you now that it was a lie and it never happened.
7:53 "Maybe Bush will exceed it"..Frank you have no idea what's down the road: Bush Junior and Chump.
Ok for one, someone else got it right, Frank didn't do drugs. Coffee, cigs, and I've heard (and imagined) the occasional beer. Just because someone's different than the status quo doesn't automatically make him or her a druggie.
For two, In my opinion, I think Frank, whether he knew it or not, was more of a libertarian and probably still would be today. Listen to his lyrics again and his interviews.
when you die-nobody will know.
-and, that is wonderful!
His taste in music has the same popularity as his taste in government if you know what I mean.
As I've said elsewhere...FZ for President, Jerry Garcia for Secty. Of State, Lenny Bruce for Secty. Of Defense, Hunter S. Thompson for Chief Justice. God Bless America! I'm Cathy Gordon, a fed up voter, and I approve this message!
@mommyimadeapoopy Same I know almost nothing about him but I just love the ways he looks at things. Theres nothing more interesting.
Best president America never had. Great man.
as simply as possible
Whats franks favorite cigaret brand?
Winston
Was one the most interesting men in America. Pity many dismiss him as an eccentric
Interesting and intelligent. A shame few interviewers ever ventured beyond the names of his children.
Holy fucking shit, you guys, FfuZ is the potential fulcrum of the paradigm shift. If you disagree, well um, you ain't felt the fulcrum that your heart houses!
His words still make sence nowadays.
Alright, man. I have a hard time reading what I typed there too, now. I didn't even explain much in that post.
Frank, a smart person.
Frank is great, here. Zappa smoked (dumb) and died way too young but man, he was the best & incidentally the 1st articulate, anti - establishment spokesperson. We all miss ya buddy - there will never be another Frank Zappa.
wow, how many comment threads do you have... ?? Smoking did not kill him.
Agreed! ;)
frank zappa is my hero.
I wonder what frank would think of Donald Trump
He'd likely appreciate how he bucked the establishment but be horrified at his policies.
He would take an enormous shit on Trump, the Tea Party,Fox News,Alex Jones/Info Wars, and the current far right breed of conservatives.
You're a bit mixed up. Alex Jones doesn't fit in with your phony narrative of what you believe the far right is and you know nothing about which you speak, so you should shut up.
mrshiney2 Frank would've supported Trump for his rejection of PC censorship, and support of the second amendment, because he was a constitutional fundamentalist. The media was biased at the time of this interview, but there were several different outlets controlled by many more companies than the big 6 we have today. Ross Perot tried his idea, and failed in the 1992 election. I think if Frank was alive today he would be shocked at how closely the government and media are connected, as well as how arrogant the ruling class has gotten with the disregard of the law, or maybe he wouldn't. He says in this interview that he uses the term Democracy loosely, in his description of America. I think he would've understood Trump's need to run as a major party candidate, and the Republican party made more sense than the Democrats, the Republicans were more hated, because of the recession that Clinton was mostly at fault for with his last minute repeal of Glass-Steagall in 2001, and the Republicans didn't have superdelegates.
+Steven Millan Shut up, and get out of here you brainwashed loser.
FZ says he voted for Kennedy. That's a lie. Kennedy was elected in November of 1960, when Zappa was still 19 years old. Voting age at the time was 21.
Excellent point. Thanks for the research. Frank DOES pause briefly before answering the question about his 1960 vote.
"They call me up whenever they need the oddball opinion". Why is it that all great truths start out as 'oddball opinions'? I think that people who see the truth are always 20-30 years ahead of the pack.
It's sad that we don't listen to them more.
Gosh I wish he was Running for President today
@muddy2
I TOTALY AGREE
@cellardoor199991 dude you don't get acne at 52.obviously frank was very sick and on pain meds, check when he's scatching his nose at start of vid he hated drugs and stopped taking pain pills as he said they made him feel sicker.
Wise man.
Would have loved to hear Zappa's opinion of Trump.
