Nintendo always makes a system that's capable of natively running anything they publish themselves. Again, absolute latest that would only be doable if they’re releasing in December unless they’re already doing the footwork of securing a supply chain and retailers very quietly. I think releasing a new system at the end of this year would be really frustrating to all the customers who will buy a Switch this year for Zelda TotK. Switch is still selling well and will surely get a big bump just from that game.
The OLED model is also still pretty recent so they can squeeze a lot more sales out of it as well.
I also think the MK8D DLCs being spread out until the end of the year is a bit telling of their timeline.

They were preparing for the Switch and I don't see that they are preparing to announce a Switch 2 with bangers like Metroid Prime, ToTK, Pikmin 4, Advance Wars, etc. being released in the first seven months of the year. I think we will see Metroid Prime 3 Remastered before we see their next console release and I think Metroid Prime 4 will be the cross-gen launch game like BoTW and Twilight Princess were. Nintendo have to tread carefully, they have a huge user base and face a unique conundrum. There is no point in gambling a new system when the switch is still popular... especially if they are partially going to rely on ports of older first/third party remasters, and the NSO subscription that runs on the original system. They need to convince the current users to make the jump. I mean what 3rd party titles will attract people to make the jump? ports of PS4 era AC or GTA5? meh...
Loyalty and a revision on the defective joycons have to be addressed with backward compatibility and hall effect sensors. If neither is addressed I doubt I ever will bother with a new portable device and just get an xbox for Starfield and the elder scrolls. Sure there will be new games but I would rather just experience a new system than re-buying a lot of games I've already experienced which feels like what the Switch is.

Yet the consumers insist on wanting them to compete regardless of the company's vision that carried them where they are today. So there has to be some sort of compromise. They don't have to compete, but the least they can do is refresh the console to keep up with more modern titles they can earn money from until their next gen system is ready ..it's not like people wouldn't buy the refresh regardless ..because it's Nintendo. The real unfortunate part is that originally Satoru Iwata's vision had refreshes of hardware in mind to keep things consistent. The only thing they have publicly stated is no new hardware during fiscal 22/23 which end in less than 3 weeks (March 31 2023). Don't be surprised if something drops alongside TOTK. Expect a substantially enhanced Switch (not next Gen). This will be the way now. Iterations with more power and improvements but no generational jumps. Think of your Switch as a Samsung Galaxy S8 from 2017 and the new Switch will be a Galaxy S23. The same basic device but substantially faster and with iterative enhancements such as 4/5G mobile support, native voice chat, better Bluetooth, 12 GB LDDDR6 RAM, underclocked 'Orin' Nvidia SOC (Ampere gen), improved UI, better joycon, same screen as OLED Switch and DLSS upscaled output from 1080p to 1440p or 4k when docked. It will likely launch at 349usd with the standard OLED Switch dropping to 299usd and the lite being replaced with lite OLED at 229usd. Suspect the New Switch will also carry a modified low power version of X1 for full back compat with existing library. It's the only way to be sure.

As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been much in the way of hardware leaks or rumours. No code name, no concept discussions. No NX, hybrid controller mock-ups. So I think we might still be a way off?

Did the PS5 & Xbox Seriee X/S have leaks before the hardware reveal? If so, then the case prob would apply/be the same for Nintendo

@@jamesvancam the switch had a lot. I don't follow ps/Xbox so much apart from through spawnwave, but I remember the Xbox having almost more of an official trickle. Especially regarding the variants. Nintendo leaks tend to stand out because they're often not just about specs. Usually we hear an official code name of a console 1-2 years ahead.

Wouldnt it be a Nice touch to have them have a sneak peak or mention something about the next switch on the SUPER MARIO MOVIE?

I am hoping and praying that Nintendo plays it safe and just comes out with a more powerful version of switch. I think there would be riots if they try to go the other route and come out with an entirely different console with some random new gimmick😂 I can see it now... They make a new iteration of switch but have actually converted it into a VR headset that looks just like Lab-o but the twist is they've Incorporated a Wii u touchpad on the back of the V.R. goggle hybrid system that also plugs into your tv lmao😬

Nintendo needs a better online infrastructure. They need full backwards compatibility with the switch. I wouldn't be surprised if their next system is not a portable one. Like they keep the switch as like what the 3ds used to be.

I wonder what they'd do. I mean, 10 years of a console being the main focus would definitely be a first, if they can pull it off

Both the Gameboy and NES were around for like 15 and the Wii only stopped being manufactured at the end of 2017.
It would literally be the 4th time, and the second handheld.

@@RunicSigils No, but what I mean with being "the main focus" is going 10 years with the Switch being the only device Nintendo focuses on, you know? Like instead of releasing a console after the 5 or 6 year mark they just keep going with the Switch. As far as I know, that's never happened

@@Monke80s Well, the Game Boy was technically like that. The original Game Boy released in 1989 and we didn't get a true next-generation handheld until 2001 with the Game Boy Advance.
The Game Boy Color was more of a mid-generation refresh as it was basically no more powerful than the Game Boy, other than being able to play games in color.
There was also the Virtual Boy, I guess, but does that even count as a handheld console? Plus, that console flopped massively.

When has a Nintendo system Ever dropped in price.....
    By Nintendo?!?!
They MAY lower the prices of their 3rd party games but not 1st party games or systems.
