Ten is in the 1st unit debuted i. e. NCT U 's 7th sense. 2018 we had 18 people it was the year Kun, Lucas, and Jungwo debuted. Wayv debut in 2019 i believed.

I love Black on Black because it really wasn't meant to be a "song song" it is purely for the sake of performance and showcasing NCT's power as a whole. It's SO much fun and even better live imo, I hope you guys check out the live performance of it they did at the NCT Nation 2023 that finally includes the WayV members! All the members here in NCT 2018 were:

Yes this was before WayV! WayV debuted in 2019 and Xiaojun, Hendery and Yangyang were technically the only new members to NCT introduced that year so they were the only ones missing. And obviously NCT Wish members because they didn't debut until 2024.

NCT-2018's "Black on Black" is a special performance MV so it is designed to highlight the group's dance skills, it's not really about the song. ("Black on Black" is a b-side track from NCT's Empathy album that actually only features Taeyong, Mark and Lucas in the song.) This performance just highlights another aspect of what makes NCT so talented. If I remember correctly, they actually debuted this performance as a special live stage showcase, before the MV was released, or maybe in tandem with the MV. So they can do all this live, too.
NCT-2018 was a special project created in 2018 because, at the time, there were 18 members in NCT and SM thought it was a cool contrast that the number of members reflects the year. (Kun -- the leader of WayV -- debuted as a member of NCT-2018 and he was the one that was added to the group to make them equal 18 members.) So they created this performance for "Black on Black" to highlight NCT.
All of NCT's members are part of this performance, except YangYang, Hendery and Xiaojun because they had not debuted until 2019 when WayV was created; former members SungChan and Shotaro, who have since become members of SM's new boy group RIIZE, didn't debut until "Resonance" in 2020; and the six new members of NCT-WISH only just debuted in 2024.
As you can see, the level of talent in NCT is insane. But when you really think about it, think of the level of telent SM Entertainment has as a whole. That is why SM commands the top spot and why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. We wouldn't expect anything less than top talent. And just think, there are dozens of more trainees, just waiting to debut. SM cultivates talent. And that is why the company has become known as a powerhouse for vocals and dancing skills. All of its artist are super multi-talented.
SM's talent is really never ending. Which is even more mind blowing when you think of everyone who is under SM, such as Super Junior who had 15 members, Girls Generation had 9 members, EXO had 12 members, plus all the company's smaller groups -- TVXQ, SHINee, F(x), Red Velvet, aespa, BoA, Kangta, SuperM, etc. and all of these groups and artists are known for having some of the best singers, dancers and performers.
Fun fact: As you noticed, when Mark first appears in the beginning, when he jumps over Taeyong, etc., he says, " ... NCT, we the dream team ..." NCT's whole group concept is all centered around dreams and dreaming, so they as a whole are the team that is all about dreams.
Everything NCT does has something to do with dreams, dreaming or being in a dream state.
Notice how the majority of the members who were the centers of this performance are also members of SuperM -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas. And that is why SM chose them to be a part of that group, because they are the members of NCT who are some of the most talented, most popular and the ones that have that undefinable "it" factor.

The first time they performed this was during a dance showcase for MAMA 2016. They followed a series of other dance solos. So while there is rapping of course, the instrumental was made to show their group dance (and the wonderful 14 year old Jisung in the centre as well as Ten's solo etc)
They added Lucas' verse to this 2018 version and made the choreo longer and larger. Because of the structure of the song they can adapt it easily. When Xiaojun, Hendery and Yangyang first performed it with all of NCT as part of the NCT Nation concert, they added in their own little dance trio section.
Black on Black is such a part of the DNA of NCT and I am really curious to see how it might expand in future when the Wishies join the choreo. I love how it morphs and changes as NCT has changed.

If I believe correctly, when they performed the song after WayV debuted, aka with HenXiaoYang joined NCT. Now those three perform their own bit and I wanna say it was what used to be Ten's solo.
For NCT nation last year, their part was during what used to be lucas' part, Ten still has his solo

I think they filmed this using a camera on a pre-programmed robot arm. Which gives it really unnatural feeling movements that are really smooth.
