from the moment you do a knot nothing from the routine gets points. I dont know the code of points very well, but i think there is like 0,5 point deduction for the knot, so 0,5 point+ the points you lose because your elements dont give you any points=big lose of points. the linoy's drop is -0.7 execusion. for ribbon knot is worse than drop

Am I the only one confused about the controversy? Ashram's routines had a higher difficulty, which means she can afford to make mistakes and still have a high score due to that. It's similar to Simone, so I don't understand. This should have been her and her country's time to celebrate but instead she had to deal with this issue, that she herself had nothing to do with.

There should not be a controversy. Ashram was far ahead before the ribbon. Averina already knew before the ribbon that it was practically impossible to pull ahead which was why she submitted an inquiry after clubs. When Ashram dropped the ribbon that did lower her score but it was a small mistake overall and while it lowered her score, it was not enough mathematically for Averina to pull ahead.

To everyone saying Dina was robbed or Linoy was not deducted for dropping the ribbon, here are the scores:
    Linoy’s scores:
    Hoops D: 18.500
    Hoops E: 9.050
    Ball D: 19.100
    Ball E: 9.200
    Clubs D: 19.400
    Clubs E: 9.250
    Ribbon D: 15.000
    Ribbon E: 8.300
Linoy’s execution scores were all above 9, except her ribbon which was only 8.3. So it’s highly likely that she did get deducted for dropping her ribbon and reaching to pick it up.
    Dina’s scores:
    Hoops D: 18.200
    Hoops E: 9.000
    Ball D: 19.000
    Ball E: 9.300
    Clubs D: 18.700
    Clubs E: 9.450
    Ribbon D: 14.800
    Ribbon E: 9.200
Dina’s execution scores were above Linoy’s for all but the hoop, for which Linoy’s was 0.05 higher. But Dina’s difficulty scores were lower than Linoy’s in every apparatus, especially for clubs. Linoy’s difficulty was so high that Dina’s superior execution wasn’t enough to make up for it. Linoy could afford to drop her ribbon. (Although just to be clear, Linoy’s execution and Dina’s difficulty were good, too!).
The problem is, from the eyes of the casual viewer, execution matters more than difficulty. They all make it look so easy that the difficulty score isn’t really appreciated. Imperfect execution spoils the enjoyment of the viewer more than lower difficulty. Linoy’s ribbon drop was particularly visible and disruptive because she somehow threw it behind her and had to turn around to pick it up. But although it looked bad it wasn’t too much of a problem in terms of deductions.
In my subjective opinion, Dina has better artistry, and combined with her better execution gives the casual viewer the impression that she ought to be scoring better than she is.
But this us false, and Linoy was judged fairly and got the scores she deserved.
If the Russian team have a problem with this then they should complain about the code of points favouring difficulty, not complain about the judges or other gymnasts following these rules.

@@rhythmicgymnastics.mp4782 I can't say it was "unfair judging" when I am not expert at the rules. However, we cannot eliminate the fact that people are skeptical about the results because of the lack of transparency in the scoring. In any OG, isn't the notes and computation of scoring available for further scrutiny of subject matter experts other than the judges? If there is scandal/controversy, should it need audit/investigation? I am wondering.
I also respect what people feel about what happened. With the error/mistake comitted by the judges in giving Arina Averina a lower score than she should've initially received in the third rotation, it caused the people to question the integrity of the judging and scoring. Another important thing is, the error/mistake affected the athlete himself/herself. We can look at the vid showing that Arina was seemingly disagreeing with the score initially given. Exactly how she felt, we don't know.
Besides from the cry of unfair judging, I am more concerned about people judgments about the athletes' feelings, demeanor, body shape and the country they represent. I cannot stand one comment purely saying hate to country of Linoy by saying they steal lands and medals. I feel sorry for the athletes. Hoping that the hate speech and bullying will be managed in all the threads in this comment section.

      @@claraopinaldo12 Hi!
I definitely respect all of the views you have brought up in this comment. Particularly about unnecessary hatred towards the athletes :(
      Regarding the scores and “lack of transparency” - the partial breakdown of scores in ET, EA, D1/2 and D3/4 are available on the Olympics website. I know that in other sports there is the actual breakdown in terms of what was counted/not available. However, this is not how RG works due to averaging and the Jury. For example, in ET there are 4 judges who calculate technical errors in performance. The score that is submitted and deducted from 10 is the average of the middle judges. Let’s say the following scores were done after a routine;
      ET 1 = 0.6
      ET 2 = 0.4
      ET 3 = 0.5
      ET 4 = 0.7
The middle scores are by ET1 (0.6) and ET2 (0.5) meaning the average is 0.55. However, if FIG was to release the scoresheet of one of these judges it wouldn’t add up to 0.55, meaning many would be confused and call out “cheating”.
Furthermore, after inquiries happen it goes to the technical Jury who can change the DIFFICULTY score using a video. In Difficulty it is again the average of the two judges in each subsection. For example in the calculation of ADs and Risks in D3/4
      D3 = 12.3
      D4 = 12.0
The average of this is 12.15. If the Jury however agreed with the D3 judge and changed the score to 12.3 this could be confusing if the original D3/4 scoresheets were released.
Finally, judges want to remain relatively anonymous to avoid hate on a particular individual. If someone’s scoresheet was released and people believed it to be inaccurate then they could be personally targeted.
I think perhaps an anonymous online system could work in future, but that’s why currently the scoresheets aren’t released in RG!

Linoy is not the first olympic champion with a drop. Alexandra Timoshenko dropped ball in 1992 but still won...and that was under the perfect 10 system, where execution and difficulty were not evaluated separately. So for her to win with a drop, back then, means its more than possible to win with a drop in an open ended code of points with uncapped difficulty. And the Russians win with drops all the time, including Miss Dina 😏, so if they hadnt campaigned for devaluing drops in 2017 Dina would be champion right now. I am completely ready for people to begin their “Dina deserved gold, the win from Linoy was political” comments…. So I will just say this.
The win from Linoy was a long time coming. She has been 2nd to Dina, often beating Arina, for the entire cycle. Dina has a severe back injury which meant her BDs were less than usual, and Arina obviously had the ribbon knot. This is how Linoy was able to be victorious.
And don’t come at me with “how can you win with a drop?” unless you actually understand the Code of Points. Dina won 2018 and 2019 World Championships with a drop and no one complained then??

Firstly, with your logic you must also admit that Linoy also was taken the correct amount of points here at the Olympics. She was deducted 0.7 ET for the drop, 0.1 EA for rhythm, 0.1 EA for rhythm (total of 0.9 in execution) as well as the loss of a potential 0.4 and 0.3 AD (0.7 from difficulty). These deductions are clearly seen in the official scores, which I encourage you to check out!
Secondly, it was absolutely a very close competition! I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time! As I explained above, the drop was calculated correctly. However, Linoy was sitting over a point above Dina leading into the ribbon rotation. Dina had lesser difficulty than she has at previous competitions due to trajectory errors, ADs not performed with criteria and lesser valued BDs (due to injury).
I absolutely ADORE both Linoy and Dina - but you cannot deny that Linoy deserved the win.

All of theses girls have work really hard. Some are really happy of their performance, other will be upset and it's normal. There is a lot of pressure on them and i don't blame her for having emotion. I'm sure a lot of other athlete cried on the podium, some where probably twice her age. It's not about maturity, she can be sad. Haven't you cried in a situation you weren't supposed ? Whatever your opinion of the scores, it was great sportsmanship of Linoy giving the Russians a hug. (Also Dina giving her medal a kiss before putting her mask back on was really cute)
Edit: there seems to be a lot of arguing in the comments so I just want to say by me saying that Linoy had great sportsmanship, I never intended to say that Dina didnt show sportsmanship by accepting a hug. Dina is obviously is disappointed by not winning, which considering she was the favorite to win is understandable, I can only imagine the emotions she was feeling, she probably was feeling like a failure to herself and her country, and she just barely missed the gold and there were probably many if only situations running through her head. I really don’t know anything about rhythmic scoring, what is considered difficult, what is considered a good routine, so I can really say anything on the scores, though I do believe there is no such thing as perfect unbiased scoring, I do know the judging got investigated but deemed to be fair (take from that what you will) and I know that linoy has been attacked a lot on social media (a lot by Russians it seems from what I interpret from any use of emojis because I can’t read Russian, though Russians aren’t the only ones attacking) to the point of her turning her Instagram private for a while and I know Dina also has received some hate too and has also asked her fans to stop attacking ashram because she did nothing wrong (so it in my opinion that if you are attacking Ashram you must not be a Dina fan, because a Dina fan would listen to her and not attack Ashram), it was more of the fault of the judging. I have also seen some place blame on the rules themselves because a drop of an apparatus is only .5 I read some where (also I read that Dina dropped the ribbon at 2018 worlds and she still won gold and Ashram didn’t drop and won silver, which is seen as proof that a ribbon drop doesn’t mean you lose gold but I only saw this mentioned by Israeli news sources so I am taking with a big grain off salt and I am going to probably watch videos of her routine later). Basically this is an over complicated way of saying i support both athletes I don’t think either were in the wrong, and I am also not in the position to say anything about the scoring, so I never meant to be imply anything negative about either athlete. I don’t think attacking others on the internet is something people should be doing so please be respectful when replying to this comment, and please try to have a bit more a of respectful conversation otherwise I might just delete this comment and repost my original one.

Hi! I thought, as an RG Judge, I would help explain her score!!
She received a 9.35 for Execution which is PHENOMENAL (one of the best of the entire final!!) - i’m sure there’s no issues with that!
Regarding Difficulty, here are some things which couldn’t be counted:
8:59 - the trajectory error (aka stepping to catch the apparatus) means the AD worth 0.4 isn’t counted
9:10 - this catch with the roll isn’t added to the risk as it was bouncy (loss of 0.2)
9:12 - this AD worth 0.3 isn’t counted as her attitude shape isn’t turned out from the hip (see her back attitude pivots which are BEAUTIFUL for a reference on how turned out this SHOULD be!)
9:26 - this body difficulty (balance) could’ve been done on toes for a +0.1
9:42 - again, the roll AD worth 0.4 is not valid as the roll is bouncy and not executed correctly
9:57 - this AD worth 0.4 is not counted as she rotates AFTER she catches instead of doing both at the same time
Therefore, she lost 1.8 in possible difficulty!! I think, being the first routine at the Olympic Final she was just a bit nervous
      :(

Console herself rather than congratulate someone that just accomplished their life’s dream. It would not add anything to Linoy’s “victory.” I would say that even Dina’s comments to her fans to stop harassing Linoy on Instagram is more goodwill than you should expect given the situation.
In what way is any powerful political elite sheltering Dina? The Russian Federation enters her into competitions. What sheltering, and from what? If you say from the possibility of losing, that doesn’t follow since the Federation did not make her win those competitions.
Why did none of the other girls go up to congratulate the Averinas on what they clearly considered to be terrible placements… I wonder.

One of the best moments is during the wait for Dina's ribbon score when the gymnasts are hugging and greeting each other. You can really feel their warmth, support and respect towards each other. And then the coaches too! Beautiful

I think all three of the gymnasts deserved the gold medal. Linoy, Dina and Arina all did so well! Like a three way tie!
