- I just got my hands on the new Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara last night so I had to try it out in today's episode of Tina Tries It. Now I don't have great lashes to begin with- they're really short and sparse but I was really surprised with the results. I really like the mascara for my lower lashes however, for my top lashes, it didn't really hold the curl as much as I'd like it to.

I think the mascara looks really bad. It's spidery and they just look thin and wet and while they get spread out at first they didnt clump with product but started sticking to each other. The lenght is cool but the lashes are not fanned out at all and for me that's a pass.

I tried it on my own lashes in a store and worked well for me! But I agree it looked bad here.
Benefit is kind of a dumb brand to be honest. Not that their products are bad, but with all the past releases compared side to side the products are the same but in a different cutesy packaging. And I hate such packaging... cutesy, pinky, loks like toys... trying to hype up the products through presentation and upping the price because of all the packaging. Same with Too Faced... That brand is so over the top and just look at their releases... they are spewing out blush shades as if we haven't seen them all and the more marketing they do for their products, the more they will up the price. Look back on their releases... blush after blush... and then a palette with a fw of those same shades, then minis of the same shades.. and when they exhaust the packaging they milk smth different. Their peach milking was so over the top. Products may be good quality for the most part but their attitude reeks of rotten peach. I'm not saying any of this because of their dramas with youtubers... I couldn't care less about that.But when I look at their products... it's all giggles, and fake smiles, relying on smth as dumb as a cartoon mascot to sell makeup as if we are all children. Or that obsession with the owner's pet as if I wanna dedicate my makeup routine to his dog through a temple in the form of an eyeshadow palette.Maybe I'm reading too much into it but everything is so self-centered... Hail me, my dog, my peaches but never mind that you are the consumer and I'd be working at the market without you. Brands are like that nowadays... it's sticking to the franchise of smth non-related.... like movie collabs.. what the hell is that for? Audience leeching. That's their marketing... Lorac has been on a roll with that. And then they sell it under the pretence that they are doing if for us and not cause of the money. Yea,... sure.
I like jackie's honesty and how straightforward she is but honestly you cannot trust any beauty youtuber. I found a channel called Laura Mae Beauty and I feel like that girl is the most honest ne I have seen. Bunny (graveyardgirl) is also very honest and she tries to stay positive and give people the benefit f the doubt.. but as kind as she is she is a bit out of it, but I love her for it anyway because she is the kindest person and the only one that has never felt shady in the least. I think the lower lashes look superb but the upper lashes was not damn good because they started sticking with each other and it was not holding the lash curls...
Thank you for the thorough review! I was so excited to see this mascara launch in Sephora but none of the people who receiced this as PR on youtube has Asian lashes... I'm glad you have done a review before I run out and buy the product!
⚠️ *Tina* , just a tip from a makeup artist like me, to keep your curled lashes up, always one coat applied lightly first then dry it completely. That way the weight of several wet coats in one go that takes long to dry doesn't bring it down. Once you have dried first coat then you can lavish it on. Hope you enjoy the results 💗
I haven't tried this mascara but in my experience the smaller the bristle, the more clumpy the application. Bc there's so much product on the brush but not enough bristle length to disperse them evenly and they end up looking clumpy.
kim huynh the formula is amazing, but yes because the bristles are so small its very clumpy. It would have been amazing with a different brush.

Woah this mascara actually looks really good on your lower lashes. I have similar lashes to you and this actually looks much better than the many many mascaras that I have tried out. I am definitely trying this next~!

Charlotte Whitney In the Info-Box she says that it's not sponsored. And she has really short thin eyelashes so I think that's the reason why it looks so bad to mamy people. Maybe she just likes the look or is used to even worse results with mascaras

I don't think it is sponsored. Her lashes are just that way and when she wears mascara they kinda look the same, except that this one didn't really help with the curl.

I have eyelashes that do not hold curls but what I have found to work is waterproof mascaras! Normal mascaras make my eyelashes drop but something inside of the waterproof ones do wonders!
Tina, if you are looking for something to help hold a curl in your lashes, I recommend using a eyelash primer. My favorite one is from L'Oréal. It makes such a big difference. I use it every day!

What eyelash curler do you use because your lashes are BARELY curled. Sometimes it does not only depend on the mascara but also with the curler you use. You should try curlers from the brand KOJI because it has variants depending on the curvature of our eyes. Their curlers are great for asian eyes.
Amore Vietato it is the mascara. I have the same problem. A lot of mascaras do not hold my curl so I’m very picky about my mascara.
Eta L I know that but in this video, how would she know that the mascara didn’t really hold the curl when her lashes are barely curled? I don’t know if I’m the only one who sees it but most of her lashes especially at the outer part aren’t curled at all. It only means that the curvature of her eyes doesnt match with the eyelash curler she’s using hence the straight lashes. 🤷🏻♀️
Her lashes were very straight. I was super confused when she mentioned them being curled cause they didn't look like it at all.
I think her lashes are just really small? That would be hard to curl

Not every product works for every person, but I personally love this mascara. I was skeptical because I typically like drier formula mascaras with a bristle wand (not the rubbery ones) but I gave this one a try and it works sooooo well! I’m a diehard Bette Than Sex used but this might be my new favorite.

Hi Tina! What is the difference between waterproof mascaras and water resistant mascaras for hooded eyes? I usually use only waterproof because I thing the other types can smudge more during the day (like panda eyes).... what do you thing or can you tell me your opinion please? 😘

I use it and this mascara leaksss so muchhh, for me it looks really natural but I only use one coat. It looks amazing at first but after a few hours it gets all over your undereyes and makes you look like you’ve just finished a intense workout and your mascara is just smudging like crazy.

I honestly don't think that the mascara is good. Yes it actually lengthens you lashes but it's clumpy and spidery. It's like a waste of money. As much as I love Tina, but the review is kinda... you know..

Terri Roberts agree!!! And it makes 2-4 lashes stick together. I use colorfever high-length mascara and it works wayyyy better than all the expensive mascara

The Benefit they're Real is my best mascara. I just bought it for the 4th time today. The sales lady tried to convince me to buy this new one but I wasn't sure about it. So glad I didn't. I don't like it

Any mascara recommendation for Asian eyelashes?? I found that using Lancôme's lash primer before the benefit roller lashes really do a great job adding length and holding up the curl but I'm still in search for something better. The struggle is real with our straight and lack of volume lashes :'(

Hi Tina!! I️ suffer from the same issue with my lashes drooping easily :/ Something I’ve been doing over the years is airing out a new waterproof mascara for a week (so I️t becomes more of a dry formula) and then I’ll apply a very very very light coat over my lashes. Afterwards, I️ can happily use any mascara!! Just a warning though, I️ find the non-plastic waterproof mascara wands are better for depositing a fine coat over the lashes. Hope this helps! If you ever accidentally apply too much waterproof mascara prior to your regular mascara, I️ like using a heated mascara wand and a toothbrush to comb it out :)
I have short straight lashes too. Mascara which are "water-proof" (not water-resistant) works wonders!😍 Just wanna let know to girls who are having a hella time choosing the right mascara. I have been, there I feel you 😉 😘

Bad Gal Bang is the brand's new mascara. The communication was focused on the spatial dimension (second degree of course): "A giant step for the eyelashes", just that!

I'm sure that in the US there will be those who will assure their followers that this mascara is made of anti-gravitational material (I'm bad language 😜).
After 4 years of formulation, here we are a UFO of the planet: benefit promises lashes longer and bulkier than ever, "36 hours of cosmic volume", we are told ... but I remember that it is supposed to remove makeup at night, so the usefulness of 36 hours. ...I do not really see that...
I admit that I received a sample of this mascara for a blind test. I did not know at the time neither the brand, nor all the traffic that goes around. Well ... I found it not bad, but nothing more!
I totally validate the effect lengthening, it is clearly one of the most successful mascaras in this area. The volume is at the rendezvous, but .... I've already seen better on this side (for example, the Cinescope Sephora is more efficient on it).
You understand, it is for me a lengthening mascara, which keeps the curve well (because the texture is light, it does not weigh down the eyelashes which allows to keep the beautiful curve), but the side volume ... it's not the most "wow".
STRONG POINTS
•Make-up removal: very easy and residue-free
•Modular effect: Compared to some mascaras "false eyelash effect" (type YSL) that load the eyelashes on the first pass, you can easily modulate the rendering by going from something super natural (a layer), the result more spectacular (two diapers and more)
effect length: we can not deny the evidence, it performs very well on it
WEAK POINTS
Holding: it tends to crumble a little bit ...
Volume: not enough present for my taste for a mascara "astronomical"
ABSTRACT
It's a good mascara, but it's not something I can call revolutionary. I do not think you'll be disappointed in buying it (as long as you like and look for that lengthening effect), but all this is marketing with this excessiveness ... which is really astronomical in this story, it's is the budget spent to make the buzz!

Does it hold the curl ? No it does not, not at all - see the video. I think I'd have preferred a great mascara not promoting something that it doesn't do.
Less money spent in waffling, more money in the actual product. That's what consumers want.
Artificial buzz? Meh, not so much.
The mascara holds the curl for the full 36 hours on Caucasian lashes, with Asian lashes I find that there isn't really any mascara seems to work for us lmao
I've seen other reviews on "caucasian" lashes & the mascara did not hold the curl either. And it flaked like crazy.
Try Maybelline Hypercurl Volume Express mascara. Cheap and good

I'm surprised with the amount of hate given on this review D: I honestly felt the same thing as Tina did with this video.. as an asian with straight eyelashes, it's extremely hard to find one that feels and looks great in person. This actually looks better in real life and it's hard to capture the results on camera. I guess it's how everyone perceives what good eyelashes should look like, but with super short and sparse asian lashes.. these results are great especially with the lower lashes! I do have to say that the dry down takes a little longer, but other than that.. i'm extremely happy with the results given by this mascara. Keep up the awesome work reviewing make up products for asians like us!

hi tina.. love your tutorials.. when you apply mascara you've got to hold the wand at the base of your lashes so the curl will stay on ur lashes.. that's what I do and the curl stays on.. :)

It's actually quite good. I've had the opportunity to try it. It wouldn't work for Tina's lashes because moreso of Tina's eyeshape and how her lashes are spaced out. I have straight lashes but it worked beautifully for me and is a really lightweight formula.

It’s because of Tina’s types of lashes. Look at others reviews it literally is amazing mascara. Everyone’s eyelashes are different and for people with straight eyelashes it won’t work the same

Ohhh snap I have the same flamingo light! ❤️ Btw, a mascara I swear by is Lash Princess by Essence. It’s ridiculously cheap and you get much better results on first coat than benefit mascara. It may be the routine I go by before applying mascara that gives amazing results but nonetheless, it has got rave reviews and I wouldn’t buy anything else.

When my store received these, I already knew that it would probably make the bottom lashes look good and not so much the top lashes because of the type of wand. I haven’t tried it but one of my coworkers has and she said the same thing as some of the comments. She didn’t like it because it was clumpy and spidery. I don’t like brush heads like that so I didn’t even bother. Lol. It made ur bottom lashes look nice tho
