- A review of Fallout season 1 diving into the amazing world-building, characters, production value, tone and more. I'm very happy that this Fallout adaptation was done justice. In a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles brought about by nuclear decimation, citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits.

Good idea
What a contrast of two shows from the same studio. 9/10 and -9/10
Honestly I can't help but wonder if fallout will set a new President for future tv shows or if this was just lighting in a bottle.
Fallout is amazing! Just finished watching it.
10:15 I think it was the ammunition he was using, in the beginning I guess he was using like an explosive ammunition meant for soft targets, but what he reloaded looked like APDS(Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot) basically rounds meant taking out tanks which kinda explains how he penetrated the armor so easily.
Yeah looking back at it he wasn't using the same gun. Although, I'm not sure why he was using his explosive ammunition on normal people. I feel like they did this to have a plausible reason for the ghoul to not instantly one tap Maximus. Or it could be as another commenter pointed out that the suit had "tempered lining". But as I said, it's a very minor thing and there's no massive writing issues.
@@SupercutsDelightwell I said my thing because if you looked at the ammo type he loaded in just before he killed the BoS power armor; he looked like he was using some APDS type of round meant for taking out tanks
@@SupercutsDelightIn the USA most civilians and police use expanding bullets for hunting and self defense. These rounds such as hollow points, soft lead, frangibles get bigger/break apart when hitting soft targets, which gives explosive like results and cause more increased trauma and damage by making a bigger wound channel and exit wound.
But against a hard surface like AR500 steel they go splat like a bug on a windshield. Since they are ineffective against armor and their use in warfare are banned by International law as an agreement in the Hague Convention, militaries do not use them.
Before Cooper shoots the BoS Knights in their T-60 Power Armor, the camera has a closeup of him loading an individual round before firing. I had to pause to notice that it was a sabot round. Sabots are sleeves that sheathe a smaller projectile so that they can be fired from a bigger barrel and shell casing thus more force for a smaller bullet. This suggests that it's a SLAP (saboted light armor penetrator) round. These are bullets designed for maximum penetration to take out machines and light armor. Why didn't Cooper use them before? In real life these bullets are ridiculously expensive. They are also really dodgy and dangerous for the shooter in the civilian world. Scott from the popular gun RUclips channel Kentucky Ballistics was seriously injured and almost died when a sketchy .50 BMG SLAP round he bought online exploded his rifle. Never buy SLAP rounds that are suspiciously cheap. And cheap for a SLAP round means *_$60 PER BULLET._* Heck don't even buy them at the $89 range.
So with that scarcity in mind for modern day America that doesn't have shortages and easy access to goods, imagine how rare they would be in the post-apocalypse.
@SupercutsDelight I honestly believe that the ghoul was having fun with maximus. Because the ghoul was a soldier and he could visibly see how bad maximus was. So he was probably like "let me toy with this boy for a bit."
@@SupercutsDelightExplosive ammo is not armor piercing, he is using the ammo types correctly
Felt like Todd Howard was held at gunpoint and told to actually help make something good for once since Starfield flopped
or he had nothing to do with it, which is why it didn't turn out to be artificial, ultra safe and corporate
@@Ar1AnX1x No, he did.
Good and starfield in the same sentence?
hasn’t made a good game since fallout 3
@@user-tp5hn1nt6wFallout 4 wasn’t bad I’m not saying it was amazing or over the top 10/10 but it was a 7/10 8/10 and some DLC’s were good
The cyclops with normal glasses had me rolling
I love how everyone was up in arms over the cyclops in the trailers, then the show explains it was some form of experimentation, shows how aggressively protective fans are.
That plot hole you mentioned regarding the ghouls bullets and the welding of the power armour is no plot hole. In the final episode we very clearly see him putting specialised ammunition into his hand cannon before firing on the big metal dudes, whilst in Philly he’s clearly not expecting said metal dude to show up and is using regular (explosive albeit) ammunition. Just a note.
Walter Goggins killed it as The Ghoul
(Literally and Figuratively)
You only played 4? Those of us who played the earlier games were getting double whammies in all of those final scenes.
That or he only played new vegas since new vegas is the fourth game in the series (excluding the lesser ones of tactics and bos)
@@mappingshaman5280 Nobody refers to NV as Fallout 4.
Lucy is probably the most genuinely likable characters I've seen in a very long time. Not to say that she's the best character ever written, just that she's so damn likabke, to the point that I was smiling pretty much whenever she was on screen
Thought so too.
Especially in comparison with other forced-female-leads
Atleast she isn't "Im so competent to the point of mary sue" Type if female lead
as a fallout nerd this show was such a good watch
As a Fallout noob (I've never played any of the games), this show was also a good watch.
As for the writing error you pointed out, didn't Knight Titus' power armor have "tempered lining". I mean the show brought it up twice. First on the vertibird by Maximus and then Lucy after she saves Maximus. I think that's why the Ghoul couldn't penetrate the "flaw" on Knight Titus' armor, but he sure was aiming for it.
It's also easier to aim for a 1 inch target when it not moving (like maximus was).
Someone pointed out that he didn't have to right ammo for it (not sure if that's true or not)
But Cooper was having fun with an inexperienced Maximus, so I can't blame him for not kiling him
Iirc the initial scene of the arrival of the Knights has Maximus and his friend chat about the new model of T-60
The Ghoul fought with 45s, and the Bortherhood's arsenal is mainly comprised of 45s, I assume. This issue though was a T-45 model issue.
I always figured he need a certain round because it shows him loading the bullet before the one shot scene but this makes alot of sense too
@gravybate2283 Yup. The Ghoul used most of his ammo fighting the townsfolk and was left with his lever shotguns buckshot when Maximus joined in. By the time he ambushes the BOS at the NCR Remnant base, he had a full restock of slug rounds - some of which were probably custom-made armor piercing rounds.
I honestly believe that the ghoul was having fun with maximus. Because the ghoul was a soldier and he could visibly see how bad maximus was. So he was probably like "let me toy with this boy for a bit."
I think it is the best game to show adaptation.
Best game to show adaption "so far"
I loved this by Arcane pips it I think.
The last of us and arcane ar better imo

They at least follow their game lore, not just make it up as they go along.
the Silent Hill movie is one of my favorite adaptations for a game, while not lore accurate, it nails as for the environment.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that Lucy and Max have a romance. It was one of the things I like about the show. Sex and companionship is fleeting in the wasteland because of how frequently people die. The interaction felt intentionally awkward and shallow, as it probably would be
About the chestplate thing, I think it's because Titus' armor has a special lining to it (it was mentioned earlier). It was retrofitted to fix that issue, and you can see The Ghoul trying to hit that spot but it's not working.
As a car guy i was blown over when i saw the futura expo cars and the XNR being used or around the past sequences
10:20 I agree but to be fair he doesn't ever use his revolver and that type of ammo (maybe) in the first fight.
He's using the rifle and it just looks a lot weaker overall.
people keep saying it was a flaw, they specifically show he use a drill head ammo instead of the repeater that IS NOT EQUIPED WITH SPECIAL AMMO! He only use special ammo for the revolver. Remember the slow mo scene where you can read the "BOOM" cap in the ammo casing as it flies?
If you consider retcons and contradictions excelent then yes!
I remember thinking a long time ago that I hope they don’t make a fallout show because I just don’t see how it would work. But after watching the season of fallout, I can’t wait for the next season and I realize that it’s actually perfect for a TV show there is so much lore behind fallout. that I could see this going on for a long time and becoming one of the best shows out there. I thought it was excellent and could’ve definitely failed in the wrong hands.
Supercuts doing fallout? Woooh!
for an adaptation like sonic, arcane, castelvania, edgerunner..etc. i appreciate Fallout seeing the overwhelming odds of adaptating the game, for being not a storydriven game w/ established main characters that were cinematicaly presented by cutscenes and the game itself has a massive worldbuilding.
I thought LAst of Us was boring, personally. So Fallout is easily my favorite game adaptation.
Same! Like the opening to the last of us was super great and intense, but then afterwards it started being very slow and boring. It’s still not bad, but fallout never got boring ever even after the opening I was still hooked and it still even had exciting scenes like the Raiders and everything, I binge the show in two days. I couldn’t even do that with the last of us. It took me a week to finish that show!
@@nerdyworld938 they made Joel a emotional wreck in that show, while in the game, he shrugged that stuff deep down.
For me, I always enjoy when a TV show focuses on delivering a quality audio visual experience; from set design, colour grade, cinematography, editing, sound design, screenwriting, dialogue, acting (...) this show is easily 10 across the board. It was like watching Dune for the first time.
Never played Fallout andnever will, but this show was super entertaining to watch and I have no doubts it's because they focused more on it being a drama TV show first, adaptation second - as it should be.
As far as adaptation goes, I'll slide it top 1, with Werewolves Within top 2, Twisted Metal top 3.
Because tou havent played thr games, you dont understand that the drama IS what Fallout is. It's always been a story first, even though it was set in a game. The point was you had to make moral decisions to effect the outcome of the game and there were different outcomes based on your moral decisions.
As a tv show, giving the multiple choice perspective is difficult but done well in the 3 main characters being good, neurltral and "evil," like your choices would have been in the game dialogue.
@@lisaskatesIRL You confusing Drama (Film Genre) with "dramatic".
To be fair I think that the ghoul didn’t use the chest plate flaw to his advantage at the start of the season bc he probably uses a special kind of ammo on the knights but wasn’t expecting one to show up at Philly
You can see that he had actually ran out of ammo by the time he starts fighting maximus. He had to swap to the lever action or reload the magnum.
Since maximus didnt even know how to use the armor he chose to just cut and run
Its almost like everything we were all saying about "sticking to the source material", really DOES help make something better.
Crazy...
You mean sticking to Bethesda's material.
Don't flatter yourself. That's not the reason it's good.
(spoiler) A lot of people miss that Maximus was raised with no parents, which shows through his many immature decisions. Him with no proper upbringing, and wanting to belong to something (Brotherhood of Steel) makes him who he is, but I think growing with Lucy helped him a lot. Example returning the fusion core. And, the final with him becoming knight, and not really wanting the attention and control he's wanted; makes good character development for s2
You can "logic" the flaw of coooer not shooting the T60 in the weakspot first time round because he had been The Ghoul for so long. It's only after the SDM that we start seeing cooper howard appear more from the Ghoul's personality. You forget many things, and one could justify that after 200 years, such a small detail could be easily forgotten untill he started intentionally remembering who he was before he got to that point. Not a flat out explanation, but it does smoothly slide into the logic of why he forgot.
There are A LOT of problems with the series concerning the games, but the series is godlike as a series alone. Propably the best vidya adaptation up to date.
Not only is the show amazing, but Ella Purnell as Lucy McLean is smoking hot. It's so strange that she bears a strong resemblance to my current girlfriend (in looks not Lucy McLean's personality). And yes, the show did my favourite game (OG PC Fallout games) justice! Didn't have my expectations up but this show delivered.
For someone who didn't expect anything from this series, I was gladly impressed.
Looking forward for Season 2.
the budget is 150 millon dollars,,,half of the rings of power,,,and 70 m less than SHE HULK and 30 m less than MSMARVEL
Gonna see it today
You just know most people are going to go for Fallout cosplay come November.
I lry liked the show, especially Goggins as the Ghoul.
Ella Purnell played 2 protagonists in 2 different video game adaptations.
Jinx from Arcade and Lucy from Fallout.
10:16 I believe he used an armor piercing round, and before he was using normal rounds because he didn't need to use those.
Can we get this quality of wrighting in the games sometime? Bethesda's in house writing has been mid at best with fallout 3* being just servicable and thats there best title post 2010. Todd Howard please stop, someone intervene in him personally designing the games with such high budgets and valuable IP. Maybe star citizen will be a wakeup call they frankly suck as a studio and have been riding there reputation from Skyrim for too long.
*No you cannot credit them with new vagus that was outsorced to obsidian games studio.
So much fun!!🤗🤗🤗The first season has been a blast!👍👍👍
The one thing I really need from the second season is more nuance on the NCR. We're definetly supposed to see the NCR as the good guys, who built a great place to live in the wasteland despite how difficult it is to do so. But uh... no. If you know the story around New Vegas, which the show is clearly leaning on, the NCR are not good guys, they're lesser evil guys. They're the best option in the wasteland for organized government, but they are just as corrupt and broken as the government of the world before the war. In fact, they fall victim to a LOT of the same mistakes, and that's an intentional flaw that the writers wanted to include. The NCR can't be treated like the "good guys" in a world where we know they just aren't really that good.
And I just started playing fallout 4 again just watching the first few episode.
That was perfect writing you didn’t notice he ran out of AP that’s why couldn’t hit the shot plus being drug
i was kinda worried when i first saw epi 1 but it started getting better n bettter
Can you make a video where you speak about westworld? The good and the bad stuff?
War Never Changes 😊
The moment when I heard pip boy screatching, NCR music when the flag was shown something awaken in me. When I saw little Spanish Mustache I was hyped, and after that Big MT, like damn I was stunned. And a top of that NV at the end. I only played NV and that serial was everything I could wish from Fallout Universe (maybe I wished for a deathclaw but Yao gai was cute also ❤️)
why Fallout Season 1 is full of logic
I really liked this show and I never played the game. Thats what great about the show its for newbies of the game and for the actual gamers its something for everyone.
First episode was a banging start and i was already hooked, episode 2 and 3 where a little weaker and i was getting little skeptical but from Episode 4 onward i was finally hooked till the end, didnt expect that somebody would do justice to a beloved franchise these days after so much stuff got ruined by big corps
You should edit the video and add a note about Cooper switching ammo before confrontation with BoS. It's not a plot hole but you not being observant enough.
Geez idk what id do if i found out my wife was a DEMON😂. Shorty said shit we can drop the nukes wrf😂
the season’s biggest flaw is that it ended. should’ve continued infinitely
That you said its simple and not complex...is pretty annoying...but keeping in mind you're also a fan which makes you a friend...did you not realize there were many storylines and quests going on at the same time other than lucy's? And that each of the other's stories were incredibly complex, fleshed out, and detailed and that all those plots were seamless tied together was not a subtle thing but blatantly obvious that it was genius movie making at its peak form, as the story told was incredibly entertaining as a fallout gamer and critical movie viewer who thought this was better than even breaking bad
Nice bait dude
I gotta say the only things I really liked were Goggins and Emerson.
Had significant character plot holes, like Moldova in the first episode, but fun enough
the deaging on lucys dad in the finale looked really bad lol but it didnt change how good the who was
Did the people who developed the game work on the show?
I can't believe there is actually a character named Howard.
They named him as a homage to Todd

I was wonderi g why the goulfelt so familair. He does remind me of the Man in Black
6:45 sorry but I definitely can't forgive the small flaws probably because they're so small you definitely could've fixed them... Ghouls don't need to take a drug to prevent going feral you either are or aren't... We're in California but not a single NCR troop, soldier, ranger nothing,,, Lucy's literally never seen sunlight in what 25-30 years, but can walk out the doors into blasted sunlight without any eye protection, something the games specifically say is important for leaving the vault? Oh and the Master wasn't in the LA area converting ppl to super mutants hence why there isn't a SINGLE ONE in the show? Sorry not sorry can't forgive that does it take away from what was done right? No but it's like it's so small it's glaringly obvious
Show is set after NV and far, far after 1.
The ncr could have retreated up North (in NV they are barely holding on) or was destroyed and is only small cells. (Hence the fall of SS date on the board)
Wasn't destroying the master an option in 1 ? If yes by the show time most SM would have been killed or hold UP deep within LA
You should watch invincible

Gonna have to disagree there, but nice that some of you are enjoying it
I heavily disagree with saying any one episode was lacking in plot development. Episodic development just means that the plot development has clear cut sections between episodes instead of everything having a smooth growth between episodes. I’ve become disillusioned to the hate for episodic shows and really enjoyed that this showed succeeded with the formula. It really proved to the business that video game adaptations don’t need to be one to one recreations of the game, but that they truly can be their own piece of media depending on how the game built their world. The last of us was built upon the story told in the game rather than the world it made. The Fallout games are way more centered on the world building rather than any particular story told within them. Si great stuff, I just disagree with how you rag on plot progression in shows.
That wasn’t a writing flaw, we see the ghoul relearning parts of his past throughout the episodes.
The Last of Us is far inferior to Fallout as a tv show. I was very disappointed with much of how they handled The Last of Us. The world is way too safe, there's hardly any infected whatsoever and it is sooooo rushed that Ellie and Joel's bond is not believable and not earned at the end.
Fallout is freaking fabulous on every corner, the attention to detail from the game to show? absolutely incredible. the BEST video game to tv show adaptation!
There wasn’t enough mutant creatures in the show. If the show was game accurate Lucy would be running away from groups of giant scorpions or spiders in the desert.
Is it just me, or is the aesthetic of the show to clean?
4k Texture Mod
its Fallout 4 aesthetic. but as for the sets and props they were all appropriate in their wear and tear. compared to Netflix's clean costumes and sets this show is on a whole another planet
I don’t get why people think the last of us is good it’s just a worse retelling of the games story, at least fallout comes up with something new
aside from the obviously disregard for lore, being set in California the capitol of the ncr and the most developed place in post apocalyptic America it looks way to desolate. So California being nuked when in lore it clearly states that the ncr slowly rebuild civilization so why the change. I just think its more interesting when fallout is a post POST apocalyptic genre and people have started to rebuild civilization, armies governments etc, but no lets make it another generic wasteland show. also the "enclave somehow returned" despite being wiped out (twice).
In the game it was difficult to say who fired the first nuke but the message was "war never changes" whether you are communist or capitalist. but the show is stupid and basically says "oh vault tech did it because bad capitalist business wanted big bucks" how exactly does a business gain profit after an nuclear apocalypse? in the game vault tech was more mysterious and you never really knew what their motives were which I think is much better leaving it to mystery
also nitpick but if the vault was in California why didn't the ncr (new CALIFORNIA republic) make contact in the 140 years they existed?
the last of us tv show was so inferior to the game, while fallout was the best tv i've ever seen. Better than breaking bad and better call saul and big bang theory which i didn't think could be beat. Waiting for season2 is going to be excruciatingl and its in New Vegas!
this video has to be a satire.
Westworld season 1 was alright and then progressed into complete dogwater. Needless to say, I'm not hopeful with Nolan at the helm of this ship.
I dunno if I'm just a miserable bastard now who can't enjoy new media but I just didn't get the same enjoyment others are getting with the show.
I think unlike Last of us not following game 1:1 to and game itself being open world not a linear experience helps. TLOU is already like a movie and there was not much to add there
but here they can take creative liberties
rings of power season 1 and game of thrones seaosn 8 are STILL Bad.

How is it bad. Even Tim Cain said he liked it in his review.
@nigelbaddock idk who Tim Cain is, but Angry Joe sums it up in his pt 2 review of the show. Episode 1-4 introduce a visually beautiful world to us with some hopefully good characters. It has problems, and there are some left-wing politics injected, but it’s tolerable for a moderate.
