This is supposed to be fun!!! I have a tractor like yours. 1937 So you are helping me to get it running again. I have clutch problems and trying to get it back running. It ran smoothly the last time. Thanks for your help!!!!
One More tip... With the Left Hand Cylinder (#1) on T.D.C The Impulse Driver that drives the Magento should be Horizontal --o-- If its Not, Pull the (4) 3/8" Bolts on the governor housing & Turn that gear to where the Impulse drive coupler is Horizontal. NEVER Reinstall that 4 bolt cover w/o Removing your magneto, The shaft is spring Loaded & Will Disengage from your magneto & When you tighten the bolts You'll put pressure on the magneto & Break your Magneto housing, so. Remove the mag 1st. Once ya get the coupler set flat & your on #1 T.D.C Then double check your Lag Angle on the Mag. The Middle witness mark is 13° & Each Mark is 5°.. The Mark on the Index should line up between the 1st & 2nd Witness mark on the magneto housing. That will set your mag to the 35°, Turn your mag to snap past #1 then turn the impulse coupler back so its sitting to line up to the drive coupler, That will time the mag to the Tractor, Use a good gasket & Remount The Magneto Then fine tune it once the tractor starts & Tighten it back up. If ya run across issues my # is 218-902-0179 David Sall... I work on these tractors for a living & as a collector for the past 35 years, So I've run across the same issues over the past few years. Best wishes & Have Fun!!!
Thanks so much for your input. Mine was running smoothly, I let it set too long between running it. I need to fix the clutch and carburetor. Lots of things to do also.
That B John Deere Should Have the Fairbanks Morse RV2B to be correct, But Very Nice looking Tractor... On the Lag Angle, The Marks on the Mag Housing The Middle Mark is 13° So to set the magneto it should be between the 1st & 2nd Mark on the left. Each Witness Mark is 5° The 35° you see on the Impulse Cup is the Degree of Lag, Set the Witness marks to 35° ( 2nd Mark from the left)

I rebuild both mags on my 1951 A and B. New caps, condensers, coils, and points.

My H was backfiring through the carb when I got it. I adjusted the valves and it fixed that issue.

Very interesting and good luck.
Look in youre book there is a timing mark on the flywheel I think for TDC
We've been using Autolite 388 in ours.
If the magneto is 180 out can't you just switch the plug wires?
Yes
I have the same book and the same problem. It ran like crap when I got it, now it won’t run at all
just been watching your videos, I was going to say the condenser- even new ones can be bad! could be cracked cap
I tuned up the electrical on it and still had issues. It got a lot better when I changed the timing and tweaked the carburetor.
whoo hoo its running alright
Is that tractor a 1930 year, awesome!
If memory serves, I believe it is a 1936.
youre fan sounds like a John Deere running LOL!
