Saltburn is extremely homoerotic and very much appeals to a gay sensibility. As a gay man I found this to be the best movie of the year with some of the best performances. Barry Keoghan should not only have been nominated as best actor he should win. Hollywood continues to be staid and frightened and quite out of sync with art. Is it A GAY movie? Saltburn is entertaining to a degree but overhyped. The ending is so preposterous I don't think it matters if the story is gay or not. The ending was a cheap gimmick ; everything before it was discarded by the writer. Jacob's character should have been remained central to the story but by the end he didn't matter.
After decades of social LGBT human rights successes in the development countries around the world, and right here at home, is a darn shame that the LGBT film industry have yet to make a film worth watching. I have yet to see a film that deals with the deeper more spiritual side of being gay. Most gay films deal with social issues, body image, but very little emphasis on the beautiful and deeper spiritual side of being gay.
There are several LGBT documentaries on spirituality that I have seen. Believer is the first one that comes to mind. God Loves Uganda and Pray Away also deal with sexuality and the community. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for more videos ❤️❤️
Saltburn was a lovely movie. Good question about what is considered "a gay film." To be honest, I feel there really isn't "a gay film" but gay acts. Just like going out to bars and clubs now, every type of person attends.
Saltburn was disappointing to me on a handful of levels. I think of it as more of a queer-bait film than a gay film. The ending makes it clear that he loved Felix only so much so that he hated Felix. There was no actual payoff to their tension resolved in any romantic or sexual way while both characters were breathing. The actively queer happenings between the two male leads were 1) a gross-out sequence and 2) a confusing humping-the-earth sequence which felt shoe-horned in, on account of the film's final resolution. The last half hour of the movie just unraveled every bit of actually built-up tension or story line. It left me feeling like three different script writers pasted together their own ending sequences and called it good. It seemed like the direction was overall afraid of actually making a gay storyline in earnest, and instead just made all the build-up to it and got nerves before the climax and slowed it instead to dissolve away in water. Felix's death being held to zero scrutiny is so questionable that it did not survive my personal suspense of disbelief... It really just felt like someone made a film from an aesthetic and then tried to cobble the storyline together after the fact. It wasn't terrible, I can't say it wasn't gay, but I will say that I was thoroughly disappointed overall.
