The song is about life, the kid represents your ego, not humble, dissatisfied, extremely materialistic, controlling, narcissistic, ect. "lose small mind and free your life" ego death frees your life from suffering, also another interesting lyric in the song, "Life is a waterfall, we're one in the river and one again after the fall." It's talking about our souls all being united like water in a river, then as the water falls over the edge, its separated into droplets, (our bodies) then finally reunited after the fall...(death)
"Swimming through the void we hear the word" swimming through the void because we died, what word do we hear? We hear the word of God. "We lose ourselves but we find it all." Losing our life, but finding God. Thank you for reading my comment

I love this song. I was in my early 20's when this song came out
SOAD's albums are just magical. Their songs on Toxicity are the most popular but their self titled and "Steal This Album" are so underrated records, their Toxicity album seems to overshine them but there are some AMAZING songs on those records. To me, Hypnotize/Memorize seems to be their most experimental record(s).
I *HIGHLY* recommend to listen these underrated songs if you haven't already, *PREFERABLY ALL OF THEIR* songs:
