This Ma Long guy has been professionally trained, coached, and playing this game for over 30 years now, since he was five. But still, no decent backhand serve and/or zero backhand overhead smash. Can any of his Chinese fans here give me a good reason or excuse?

"This Ma Long guy" is the greatest player of all time. He was world #1 longer than any player in history. He is aging and has lost a step, especially to his forehand, which is deadly when playing against other Chinese players. However, he is still World #3, and as far as I can remember hasn't fallen below #3. He doesn't need a backhand serve because he disguises several serves with the same motion. As far as "overhead smash", what the heck are you talking about?

@@johnwelsh2769 He's the "greatest," in terms of accomplishments, yeah, I'll give him that because he's been involved with this game for over 30 years. If anyone else is given the same amount of time, I am pretty sure many others can or will accomplish the same if not more.
But in order to be the "Greatest of All Time" in my eyes, one would also have to be the most athletic, the most innovative, and the most entertaining. So far, I just don't see anyone coming close to that.
Don't say he doesn't need a backhand serve. You don't know what he needs or doesn't, especially from a guy who doesn't even know what an "overhead smash" is. (I will tell you later below.) If I can serve equally well from both corners of the table with my backhand and forehand serves (and he can only do his forehand serves from his backhand side corner of the table) while I am still a self-taught beginner for the past 8 months, and he, being considered one of the best of all time, can't . . . then maybe I can be more successful at this game than he can if given 30 years to play it. Wouldn't you say?
      * An overhead smash is anytime your opponent lobs a really high ball into the air and it comes back down on your side of the table and bounces over your head and you have to hit it with a downward motion back to your opponent's side of the table. So, a "backhand" overhead smash is when you hit it with your BACKHAND stroke, unlike the FOREHAND overhead smash which you'd have to hit with your forehand stroke that everyone and all the top players do. Understand now?
