Holy shit I didn't expect this to be voted so high but at the same time incredibly deserved. The first time I heard this theme I literally had to stop playing for an entire loop of the theme just to let it sink in, and, as the 12-13 y/o I was at the time this released, this game and this theme alongside the first PMD are the two games that made me respect video-game OSTs the amount that I do right now, and it's practically all the music I listen to nowadays, so it speaks volumes of the importance this had to me in my childhood/adolescence. Edit/PS: If you didn't shed a single tear, let alone bawl your eyes out like I did by the end of this or EoS's special episodes, you have no soul.
Explorers of Sky is my favorite game ever and I replayed explorers of time before it at least 10 times start to finish including post game. Truly a travesty that mystery dungeon isn’t as well known and loved in the fandom
This was the first game ever to legit make me bawl my eyes out. 2nd being FF crisis core on the psp. Which i hope jules covers price of freedom in the future
The scene after this battle. It's the one that makes me cry the most of all video games. Even listening to the music brings me into a session of intense crying. It hit me so hard back then, when I first played it, this game truly is the one that achieved the most to make me feel emotions for imaginary characters. Thank you, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon ❤
oh man, I remember it just hitting me. I'm normally not an emotional person, and I play games for the game, but the story of this one had me so invested, and then the goodbye just hit me so hard, and then the lonely shots of the partner returning on their own, and collapsing at the door hit me even harder, and then the scene at the beach where they had the grief trigger on a memory helped me understand the idea of grief, that just an everyday thing can trigger those emotions. I saw it articulated better afterwards that grief is like a ball in a box with a button. each time the ball lands on the button, that's pain/sadness/etc. at the start, the ball is nearly the size of the box, so it doesn't take a lot to trigger the button. over time, the ball gets smaller, so it rarely hits the button, but every now and again, it will.
The newest PMD is fine and fun, but the specific game this song is from, Explorers of Sky is a way more fun experience and generally THE PMD game people would recommend. The plot is what enamors people along with the phenomenal music and pleasant pixel art. If you were to give the series another try, Explorers of Sky can really grab you in a way the other games can't
it also has the most replay value bc of the rando and the fact that you can play as something other than a starter. EoS is the best PMD game that has been created, and it'll probably only be beaten by a DX version
100% agreed, red/blue rescue team and then explorers of time/darkness/sky were such an incredible experience to play as a kid. Still incredible to play now as an adult! Games of this quality just don't age, or if they do it's just like fine wine 🔥
I wish GTI was more popular, it has a better story, characters, and music than Sky, and it's not cap. 8/10 game trapped with 4/10 gameplay. This isn't dissing Sky, but way too many people don't give the other parts of the series (Shiren included) a try. Also ftr, GameFreak has no involvement in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, it's primarily Chunsoft (who merged with Spike later on) who works on it, but they usually have a better track record and would likely not make the same mistake.
The plot of this game is on the level of the best Final fantasys. And the music is absolutely incredible and more than salvages a fairly average gameplay to be fair.
This is one of those notifications that literally made me go "OH SHIT" out loud!!! Soooooo excited to hear a modern cover of this track! Absolutely incredible 👀👀
This music, higher than Megalovania, is just making my day. As much as I love Megalovania, Dialga's Fight to the Finish! was probably the first boss music to make me cry and feel with determination !
I'm a temporal tower kinda guy rather than fight to the finish, but given they're basically the same I'll take this as a win. Both are amazing, and this track has the memories attached to it too.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky was the single game that made me appreciate Story telling in video games and almost another kind of media as a kid as was the first and only game I've ever cried to as a child and is one of the very few games that make me cry whenever I play them and whenever I hit the end game and hear this song I get emotional and this cover has made it an even better song which brought back all the nostalgia from when I played the game as a child
When you don’t know the story context and leitmotifs behind this song: Oh dang, this song came from a Pokémon game? Awesome! It rocks. When you know the story context and leitmotifs behind this song: I CAN’T STOP FIGHTING, BUT I CAN’T STOP CRYING EITHER!
Tbh, I'm way too fond of the pixel art. They would probably remake in in 3D, and even though the 3D in the switch PMD was very nice, I'd much rather see an adaptation to the newer console with the game basically untouched. It was so good.
@@jaimeXDgo I agree that the pixel art is peak but the artstyle and backgrounds for DX was real neato too, also the remixed music went hard which is probably my main reasoning other than wanting to introduce more people to it
@@jaimeXDgo While the pixelart has it's charm, I loved the 3D water-painting/story-book style they choose for the Rescue Team remake and would love to see them do it with Explorers as well.
Jules covering one of the best songs from my favorite childhood game? What an amazing treat! Beautifully done to, especially for someone who hasn't played the game and knows EXACTLY how this should feel
@@DaxWolf777 My point being that he kept the song in line with what the vibe is for it, as opposed to changing the feel and how it could be applied. Not the craziest thing, but something nice enough that Jules deserved the compliment Sorry for trying to compliment a job well done
It's very, very difficult to put into words just how important this song, and the game it's from, are to me. This is a cover I ever knew I needed. Wonderful work Jules, as always.
I'm just gonna come out and say it: This is my all-time favourite final boss theme from any game ever. Not because I think it's the greatest one ever composed (although it is an absolute banger) but because of it's significance to me. This was the song that made me a video game music afficionado in the first place, and it comes from a game that had a big impact on me. Among other things, Explorers of Sky is THE game that made me into a Pikachu fan, something that's been a key part of my online identity ever since including the pfp I've used ever since I set up a RUclips account (which of course uses the classic pixel art from the early PMD games). Anyway, as someone who is a huge fan of this song I would like to give this cover my seal of approval. Great work as always Jules. (Also, I'd like to add that I love how this came in a place higher than Megalovania. It just goes to show how well loved this song truly is.)
A legendary track heralding an ancient, respected foe, covered by a legendary, respected veteran of youtube. A more fitting pairing, I cannot think of. Wonderful, powerful cover here Jules. Might be my favorite, and I've been watching off and on since the Super Meat Boy covers.
God this cover does such immense justice to the song that was a cornerstone of so many childhoods. The fact that you managed to nail the vibe so perfectly without even having experienced the moment that it represents is incredibly impressive in its own right. If you viewed this as a gift to the PMD kids, I view this as an absolute banger of a Christmas coming early.
I played through Explorers of Darkness and it still holds such a strong memory for me. I think part of the reason the song resonates so much for us is the payoff of getting to the fight. It’s such a struggle and a grind to get to this part of the story. It’s somber yet energetic, truly fitting of a cathartic finale to the journey you’ve been on…no matter how it ends and whatever happens next.
I'm 22 and after _years_ of putting it aside, I finally picked Explorers of Sky and played it for the first time the other day. And man, I would have never believed that I'd become so attached to a game that's more than 15 years old at this point. It's one of those games that I legitimately feel happy to have played and will remember for a long time. Something about the unique concept of the game having Pokemon as protagonists and all, paired with a charming story and amazing soundtrack just makes the game all the more enjoyable for me even as an adult - and that ending dude, as embarrassing as it is to say, I really did feel it. 😅 Oh yeah, the cover. Fantastic job as always! You really did justice to perhaps the most exciting track in all the Pokemon series. Cheers! 🎸
I never expected a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon to punch the heart so hard. And I never expected FamilyJules to make an epic cover from this game. Love it! I wish my Guitar skills were even a fraction as good as Jules, but I still find these to be an inspiration to me to keep practicing and trying new things.
CRYING AND SCREAMING RN I LOVE THIS SONG THANKS JULES Edit: okay done freaking out. When I saw the likes of Hopes and Dreams and Megalovania here though, I thought it that wouldn't be the case. SO GLAD I WAS WRONG. I know you didn't really play these games but you did an awesome job anyways, thank you.

Oh man. Oh dude this brings back so much nostalgia and so many memories. Huge wave of emotion rolled over me at the opening notes, and this whole cover is absolutely fantastic.Going to be listening to this on loop for a long while for sure
Fun little story On my first run of this game I was Turtwig with a Mudkip partner. Getting to Dialga was a pain as the waves of Solrock and Porygon burnt through my items. When I got to Dialga I had nothing and got completely washed by his attacks. I gave up on the game until a few months later, where I completely reset my save and went with Cyndaquil and Mudkip. I was a smarter kid at this point and managed to keep all of my items until Primal Dialga, to which I spammed Smoke Screen and Mud Slap until the thing finally went down. Good memories.
I've been with PMD for over a decade and this is probably the first remix of this song I've heard that is actually good. Most of them either put a crappy dance beat over the main melody or they make it overly atmospheric and forget it's supposed to be about slaying a giant metal dragon that's fighting back with all its might.
After all these years this song is still an absolute banger. Out of the PMD games, Explorers of Sky has the best story because that ending still makes me tear up everytime. Very happy that you covered this song and its an incredible cover.
I just beat this game. I played it since I got it on my 8th birthday. I beat it a few months ago, before my 14th, and my partner Pikachu having flashbacks legit made me cry. Epic cover!
I thought this was going to be a good remix, not the “greatest” but definatly a good one halfway through…. And then you started playing the chorus of the song in that low tone at the end and I nearly buckled to the floor, JESUS CHRIST that was so good!
Fantastic as always. One of my fondest memories of PMD (besides the excellent storytelling and beautiful music) was completely gimping Darkrai with a humble X-Eye Seed, leaving me to wipe out his mooks while he stumbled about like an idiot. By the time he recovered, he was alone and we could gang up on him and beat him in just a few rounds.
Reading the description of this explains how you haven't played this game. While I can't speak for all entries, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky is easily the most powerful entry I've played. Child me was blown away by the story and emotion, and having played it again a year ago it still holds strong. There are a lot of games out there to play, but I highly recommend it for any pokemon fan.
The PMD games were a series of games I really wanted to play but as a kid it just never ended up happening. Thank you for reminding me I need to obtain a few of these.
This sends me back to when I'd plug in my cheap little headphones and listen to this song on the jukebox feature in Explorers of Sky instead of going to sleep
Omg i cant believe you covered this song of all songs thank you so kuch :') i srill think this is one of the best songs in video games since it somehow is both epic and very sad: epic cause it really gets you pump up to fight but also sad since literally ten minutes before the fight even started your character was told that if you save the day you were basically getting Thanos away, which caused such a bittersweet ending.
I remember being at a big family gathering for a birthday when I beat this fight, and crying after I finished this part of the game... Man, explaining why to my parents was awkward.
good thing i had a couple spare reviver seeds, cuz this was an OHKO to my childhood, much like dialga's roar of time was to me countless times back then
YESSSSS THE COVER WE ALL NEEDED!!! Even if you didn't play the game and don't have the context of what is really going on, it ended up great. Tho I just want to say that this game is much more than what it seems; the one you played, DX, is good for its gameplay, but the other games in the series such as Explorers (where this song comes from) have a much heavier and tied up plot that can really leave a mark if you let it to. It's ironic that it became my favourite videogame saga not for its gameplay but for everything else lol Anyway, thank you so much and great job!
I love this so much, I was the one who voted for Temporal Tower on your Top 10 final levels medley all those years ago. Please give that song the justice it deserves
Doing this cover in November in the middle of the you know challenge is disgusting... . Jokes aside, absolute banger you pulled here, congrats and thanks for the music.
I love this theme. This and temporal tower theme are so good. I go back and watch your top ten last area themes video a lot just for that 20 seconds of temporal tower lmao
OMG!!! My favorite pmd song !!!!! Tell me I’m not the only one that got bulked up on reviver seeds. Also tell me I’m not the only that cried after this battle?
I love 0:47. It sounds decisive yet nostalgic at the same time. Fully nailed the feeling for me in this, even without the flute, amazing work! Seeing a remix of this in the current time makes me happy, this is easily my favorite final boss song ever, it's full of emotion and has an amazing buildup. Again, amazing work here!
Primal Dialga's theme never gets old, I'm going to be 50 years old and still jamming out to it.
I guess you could say...it's timeless.

One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite games ❤
I remember being at a big family gathering for a birthday when I beat this fight, and crying after I finished this part of the game...
Man, explaining why to my parents was awkward.
This is by far one of the best pokemon themes in the entire franchise.
I just cry at this song thinking of what happens after the fight 😭 such a banger though
I love how you included temporal tower in this
good thing i had a couple spare reviver seeds, cuz this was an OHKO to my childhood, much like dialga's roar of time was to me countless times back then
The only downside to this incredible arrangement is that it's just over 3 minutes. Amazing job!
LETS FUCKING GO! This is one of my favorite Pokémon songs in general, from one of my favorite Pokémon games! Freaking chills!
It's ironic that it became my favourite videogame saga not for its gameplay but for everything else lol
Anyway, thank you so much and great job!
I love this so much, I was the one who voted for Temporal Tower on your Top 10 final levels medley all those years ago. Please give that song the justice it deserves
Thanks youtube for putting this in my recommandation I didn’t know I needed this but I’m glad I clicked on it ! Masterpiece !
dude explorers of sky is so nostalgic to me, love this cover
Doing this cover in November in the middle of the you know challenge is disgusting... . Jokes aside, absolute banger you pulled here, congrats and thanks for the music.
I think this was my sign to replay this game for the millionth time! 😁
A top notch cover of a top notch song from THE top notch of games. Thank you for this one man, these games mean a lot to me. So dope!
The best song from one of the best video games ever made. You absolutely nailed it. Thank you so much for this amazing cover
My favourite music from my first ever videogame, EPIC !
I'd love to hear Secord Dark Matter Battle!
This was truly one ost gem back in its day. I'm glad I finally get to hear you cover it.
What a phenomenal cover of one of the most phenomenal tracks in the Pokémon franchise. I LOVE THIS! ❤🤘

It's like you're going through the entire Taia777 library and bringing it back one piece at a time. You are truly GOATED

One of my favorite PMD songs easily.

Absolutely Brilliant!
I was just looking at remixes for this song. Sometimes it's like these music channels can read my mind
Words can't express how I felt when I saw this in my notifications. One of if not my favourite song in the entire Pokemon franchise.
HOLY SHIT LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Those lead harmonies just hit different man. Amazing rendition!!
FUCK YEAH, MAN!!!!
The perfect banger for my B-day, Thanks.
