I completely agree with you that this story was poignant because the main character was so very ordinary. I also really appreciated his inner monologue about his feelings for his family, and how that came around at the end, when another character mentioned that they would join him before too long. Also Tony, your non sequiters are always pure gold, drones indeed! 😂 I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, thank you for all the wonderful tales and commentary throughout the year!
How Bitter-Sweet!! Thank you Tony, I hope you are feeling better from the Cold, I have to take Jasper Mutt out for his Late-night Tree, before sleep, so I must listen to your "Bletherings" ~which are Always as good as your Story telling, when we get back. Andrea , Duncan,Jasper & Critters. ...XxX....
Love your stories Tony And love the round up at the end ,where you get an insight to the life and times of the writers themselfs Beautiful Christmas story.
I listened to this earlier on my podcast app, but it is so well told, that I just had to listen once again! A perfect tale for the quiet space between Christmas and New Years'. ✨️🎄✨️
Garvis whom his wife is reading was the most popular writer of the time who wrote endless romance novels. We might call them Beach books today since his wife is reading them on the sands. I had to look that up. A trivial detail but at least it will no longer be something to distract me.
Great story and narration! Thank you, Tony! This is a great story. I never made the connection between Algernon and writing about regular people and the "average Joe." Once you said it, I thought back and thought about his stories to male the connection. Yup, it is all there. He did. You hit the nail on the head with that comment. I love Blackwood's stories. Hope you had a great Christmas! Oh, I got your 22-hour Christmas Ghost Story compilation in before the big day. It is excellent and contains great stories! Thanks!
Thanks, Tony. I was startled when you mentioned the drones. They're all gone now, obviously teenagers playing, "Made you look!" Well, everybody loves a little mystery. It's funny how in anxious times people see the outlandish when the obvious will do. Anyway, thanks and have a happy new year.
Great little story: thanks Tony. I think anyone who has had a near-death experience might recognise the sudden feeling of relief and lightness of spirits that the main character has, even when he realises that things are not quite right. Interesting post-story ramble. Merry Christmas to all !
What a great commentary Tony. To choose purpose is certainly a better life. However, it is not something that is encouraged or celebrated in our current society.
I really love your chats at the end of the stories Tony. Do you think you would ever do a podcast? You are an absolute fountain of knowledge. I especially like enjoy a lot of your opinions and knowledge, the deeper dives. Especially the spiritual, pagan or occult. Hidden if you Will? Anyway.. Youre my favourite reader hands down with Casper as a close second 😉
Heya Tony! What a lovely surprise! I will say, now "Happy Holidays", and hope that you're having fun. This one moved to actually crying halfway home as I walked back from the shops. I hope it's a true one, and that you and Mr Blackwood are indeed correct. Thank you. 😭💙
I perpetually conflate Algernon Blackwood with Ambroise Bierce because I'm terrible with names and categorize people by their initials. I kept waiting for you to say something about the author of this story dying in 15 different ways in Mexico.
Please, please, please don’t say there’s a twist before the story, same with film reviews. If I know there’s a twist beforehand I look for it, and, often work it out. Knowing there’s a twist, even if not worked out, dampens its effect. Apart from that it was an excellent reading, as usual. Thank you. I thought this story could make a nice short tv adaptation.
Contrary to your comment, there is no evidence that Bram Stoker ever joined the order of the Golden Dawn although he had some friends and associates who were members.
Why do writers and scientists, and an increasing number of the population, want to remove GOD from everyone's lives? Remember the Tower of Babel was because they wanted to be individual gods in their own rights. Everyone spoke one language. Instead of working together to help each other and praise GOD, they wanted to reach GOD and become one. Bso, GOD confounded the language and then they left. Man's inability to accept GOD as the Creator and to work as a team making life better and honoring GOD.
Didn't like this at all. So this poor man dies on Christmas Eve, and with his loss, his wife and children are looking at a life of poverty or even starvation. What a lovely Christmas tale. NOT.
How very kind of Tony to gift some of his Christmas time to us! 😍
Soothing voice and peaceful story. Thank you. Happy new year. So many stories to come.

Blackwood was an excellent author, and I really enjoy your telling of his stories
Superb narration ! Great voice! 😊😊😊
This story is fantastic! The moment at 8:15 when he realized something was wrong gave me chills. Perfect for the holiday season

I’m going to comment on your blethering. I like it.
I appreciate that
✨Thank you✨🎄✨
Thank you so much! Blackwood is my favorite author.
Yes, please, The Wendigo! "My burning feet of fire!" I love his North woods stories.
Tony, blabber on. That's my favorite part of the story.
The start was wonderful. The blether was top tier and well worth listening too. Always my favourite part about your readings. Thank you Tony.

No, say happy xmas
@@Biggusdickuss111 Nah... Too much like "Happy Eczema", to me, and I'm not personally keen on Newspeak.
So I will say "Welease Bwian!" for now.😊
Very good 😅
Do the willow for NY eve!
Thank you Tiny. This was a beautiful story❤❤❤❤
Bravo Tony, another winner, masterfully read. Appreciate your efforts greatly.

The drones are a Fortean phenomena. Like The Fairy Folk.
I like this story. I wish it would have been longer.

He felt for his presence or presents? ☺️
What’s a blotter???

There's no evidence he didn't either...
I think my smart phone is reducing my concentration,
I was going to anawer you about this, but got distracted.....Lol!!
