Everything is coming together so well! If you haven't already, consider holding your front door paint color up against the slate color before painting the trim. The colors may not compliment each other.
Trim Yes!!!! MICHAEL CAN HELP YOU. I bought a 70's house 20 years ago. It needed upgrades and I missed the trim issue also. When I realized what was wrong, I drove around the neighborhood looking for similar homes to mine and checking out the trim. I found the right look, drew it up for my contractor, and it made all the difference. Pay attention to the width, style and profile of the trim. You are entering a whole world of options. Take your time with this so you get exactly what the house needs. So exciting Janey! Your vision is coming to life!!!! Beautiful things happening.
You might want to consider painting your wood pergola the same color slate, it will kind of disappear until you are ready to redo it. You’ve gotten a lot done in such a short time. Looking forward to your video with Robbie, such a great guy.🌻🧡
Personally do not put on trim. Paint the narrow part of the window frames the slate. It will look modern and great. It will look like you have black modern windows. Forgo adding trim :) Adding wide trim will take away and will be too bulky in slate. IMO :) typically I don't write opinion comments, but I can't help myself on this one. And the planter looks great in Behr "Slate"!!! Sadie's room looks beautiful.
I love the new paint color. I'm so glad you will add new trim to beef up the structure. I suggest you keep the trim the same everywhere without breaks to the eye. Make sure to use several coats on all doors to make the green POP! Things are coming together quickly! I think barn style shutters around those windows / sliders would look awesome to create a ranch style look!
Considering you guys just moved on you have gotten so much accomplished no way would I have been able to do as much as you have, and what a difference the house is looking with it painted it’s looking so nice, and yay Robbie is coming to help plant the willow tree so excited 😊❤️🌻🌺🌸
Looking so good!!! The zig zag planter almost disappeared with the darker color and when you have plants spilling over the edges you won't even notice it's zig zag shape anymore. Your daughter's room looks so pretty. I especially love the bunny artwork, it's so adorable. 💕
Wow! Coming along….can’t believe ALL you have gotten done, you have to be exhausted!!! A few suggestions for you to think about, keep the trim around your windows and doors White. If you do them slate it will accentuate the irregular shapes. Let them fade to the back and just trim your soffit, pergola and posts with the slate, so they stand out. I would also do the decking with the slate stain. I don’t think you should introduce another color on the deck as it will distract the eye from your focal point “ the sage front door.” Anxious to see the outcome 🥰
Everyone enjoys a good fixer upper episode! I’m sure these home improvements are going to gain you many subscribers. I’m really enjoying the progress!!!!
Love the dark slate on the planter. I think the pergola in the same shade with a climbing vine growing across the front of the house would really soften all the straight lines. Also can't wait to see plants spilling out of the planter , which will totally soften that area as well.
You are doing great. Love each new day. Be careful where you put that weeping wilow the roots will travel every where, keep away from your septic system..
I think you should just extend the pergola on the front all the way to the zig zag planter and put large posts at least 6x6 painted the slate. Plant a blooming vine or rose. Raise the area in front of the door to match the rest of the deck. Put in French doors with 3/4 windows to replace the sliders and nice lights flanking each door. I love the colors you have chosen and I can not wait to see the espalier. Your house is going to be amazing.
Hi ! Just to let you know in those little down moments, the energy you show in your videos has inspired me to do things in my house. Not the same things of course but reorganising stuff and such , so thank you :)
Oh my, the amount of times i have painted something and had to go choose a new one.... Many! I just get a picture in my head of what I want and not happy until I achieve it. Is anyone else the same? I had one of those chairs in the 90's 😆
The phrase our family coined when we moved into our new place last summer and nothing ever seemed to be simple (or inexpensive): "Everything's a project!" But somehow, it all gets done, just not on the timelines we planned. You're doing great, Janey!
Everyone in your family are such sweet hearts. Sadie's room is such a dream room. Your husband seems to take everything in stride. Bless your heart you taught us all something about when we have a stain color that needs to be turned into a paint color. Your painter rocks, as he is very good.
It’s all looking so good. Can’t wait to see Robbie there tomorrow planting the willow tree. It’s always fun seeing you two excited to be hanging out together. ❤️🏡🌳
I love the slate “black” color of the zigzag, it looks amazing 😻 what a transformation already 😊it is looking soooo good 👍 can’t wait to see what’s next 🤗🤗🤩 Sadie’s room is beautiful, love the 🐇🐇 pictures, so cute 🥰
I find that it is so hard to have to wait for other people. When I start a project, I want it done NOW, lol! It is an exercise in patience, but everything will get done. The house is looking so much better already with the white paint, and once you get trim up, it will make a huge difference. Don't feel bad about the paint error. Painters see this all the time, and since they are spray painting, the work is not as laborious as hand painting. Looking forward to seeing the zig-zag planted! You always inspire me 🥰
Janey, I'm so happy that the painter gave you a schedule, so you have a better timeframe for when you can start planting. I'm glad to see things coming together for your family. I love how meticulous Jason is, getting the details right at the beginning is so important. Way to go, Jason! I have a suggestion, if you paint the outside window & door trim before cutting and installing it, you won't have to tape everything off before painting. Then you'll only have to touch up the nail holes in that trim. I hope that made sense.
Your daughter’s room is beautiful. Love the house colour so far. The paint makes everything looks better, even the roof now looks darker and goes with the house colour
Wow 🥰 Just painting made such a huge difference. It looks wonderful. 💕 I really enjoy the home improvement projects and can't wait for the zigzag planting project. Have a great week everyone 😊
The dark color helps the zigzag planter "disappear" more so that you see the house more, which I bet was your goal. Looking good! I think you guys got a diamond in the end!
I love that saying "lipstick on a pig" i'm from Australia and have never heard that expression before, but I will be using it a lot as it totally applies to my house, its always just lipstick on a pig jobs lol
Janey, I am so thrilled Jason set up a nice monitor for you!! I agree, moving the desk will be a good idea so you aren’t looking at a monitor in front of all that light as wel
The dark gray looks very good. Definitely a big improvement over the white. The house color looks great! Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together, house and gardens.
Janey, your patience and attitude are precious! I love that you have rescued this house and are making it home. Everyday you are making great progress and it is so exciting to watch. Good job to all of you 💟
This was a wonderful video. Some of every day life...we all expedience those things. Life goes on even with remodeling. You will look back of this as fun. You and the painter learned how easy things can get into an oops..both of you accepted it so well , and moved on!
Loving your journey in your new home. How about a small hanging light in the are over your front door - and matching lights on the front of the house in between all the window/ doors? I know you don't care for the pergola along the front of the house, but it's helping to keep your house cooler by shading that area. So many fun things to consider and implement. Can't wait to see what else you do!
IDEA: I have an idea for the red pavers. Paint them a solid color, then stencil them with your color of choice. I did this with the square pavers you get a Lowes. Some of them I just stenciled with white paint, and some I painted a white base, and stenciled them blue. I used regular paint. I see (How's it growing channel) used masonry paint. They would look so cute as a path in your raised bed no dig garden!
I saw your video posted yesterday but didnt have time to watch so I grabbed my coffee this morning and enjoyed it SO MUCH! A few notes: 1) your daughters are so sweet. How fun for her to show off her pretty room 2) your husband's support is a;ways wonderful to see! He obviously loves you very much. 3) I laughed so hard at the paint vs stain issue. It looks GREAT. 4) Fantasy Football is REAL! My husband's draft was last night. So now I will feign interest for the next few months..... hahah.
Make your work area into an “L” shape with a rolling chair that way you can face the door to see who comes in and look out the window at the same time. Love watching all this evolve
I’m gonna be the oddball here and say the zig zag planter would look good being the same color as the house so it looks like an extension of the house making the house look more grand as you come up because now it looks like part of the driveway and once the driveway gets coated it’s going to look even more dark..But I’m going to trust the process because I’m sure it will be beautiful. I can’t wait to see more!! 😊🌺 .
Sadie’s room is adorable and I love the bunnies. The “wrong color” just gave you a good base cover; so, your slate should last and wear well. Have you thought about building up the posts on the front? I have seen that on other redos and it has a terrific impact on the look of the home. I may have missed prior comments on that. Love watching your progress.
Yes, I agree. Building up the posts would balance the “weight” of the pergola. I would suggest the same for the posts/pillars on the car port. Great suggestion!
Love your videos from former Northern CA resident for 30 years. Miss wonderful people of SF Bay Area and Sonoma County! We had a country property in Sebastopol, Ca. Please ask experts about invasive roots of willow trees. They get massive and will drain your water supply. Good luck with your remodeling and new garden plantings. Love your daughter's room.
Must of been the "comedy of errors" weekend, had my own too. Sadie did a wonderful job putting her bedroom together, look forward to what Shae picked for her room. Oh and I love the bunny art. Tell Robbie "Hello".
Oh my Sadie's room is Absolutely Gorgeous. I wish I could have had a room like that when I was her age. Your Home is really looking Amazing. I like the color of your flower bed. Thank you for sharing this video with us. So until next time God Bless you and your family and have a Blessed evening and stay safe my dear and Special Friend.
Painting the house has made such a big difference to the place. Sadie’s room looks beautiful 🤩 I feel bad for Shay that her comforter has not arrived yet, everything will be gorgeous when her things get here. I know that you will be removing the stepping stones at a later time, have you considered painting them the slate color until then. The red color looks very “present” next to the house 😊
Yaaaaay. I was worried about how he’s going to paint the inside of that planter, but he did it 👌 And the weekend ended with everyone being happy 🎉 By the way, that first grey would work as a primer for you 👍🏼
Yes, the house is missing trim work. It will look so much better once the trim and paint is done. The house looks great so far! Can't wait for the plants to go in the zigzag planter. I like the flower pots better than the boulder suggestion. Boulders are extremely expensive!
The planter looks amazing in that color! It really worked at disguising the zigzags in the planter. Once all the painting is complete, you will have taken decades off that home. I’m so happy for you guys!
Oh Yes ... the two step dance ..... I have been doing that one for a year and a half now ... Lots of things fell apart for me ... However I am close to getting everything done ... Just stay positive... !!!
I love following your channel. It's like episodes of "As the World Turns." I know it's frustrating to not have the bed linens for your daughter and to have to repaint the zigzag planter, but I am wowed by how much progress you have made since your move. The girls' rooms will be precious! Keep that positive attitude flowing! Looking forward to the tree planting with Robbie!
I am so enjoying your family’s new adventure on your channel. It so brings back memories from my past. Your girls are so cute and husband so helpful. It brings a smile whenever I watch and hardly can wait for the next video 🌈
I absolutely love that your hubby hosted a fantasy football draft party amid all the painting and such! Mine would do the same! Your fresh paint is making me miss my former white home with black accents! Love it! 🌸
I throughly enjoy starting my day with Janie and her garden and watching the progress. I’m starting to see your vision. And good on ‘ya for staying so positive!
Right there with you on having a husband who’s really into fantasy football… Mine does mock drafts throughout the off-season, he has way too many teams to manage for the average person, and don’t even get me started on the intensity of the money league teams😂 We have our gardening, and they have their football…. Love your channel, your positivity, and how willing you are to share this new home & garden journey you’re on. You and a few others have really inspired me to start documenting my own gardening adventures too❤
The house is looking wonderful! I wonder if you considered painting the deck and pergola with a solid wood tone or taupe color? Adding in the warmer tone could add softness and organic contrast. But take all that with a grain of salt because I’m sure whatever you end up doing will look amazing!
OMG Janey,, You have done so much in such a short space of time, it's brilliant what you have accomplished. I'm coming to live near you lol x ( in my dreams 😅 ) Here in the UK the painters I've come across are not so accommodating, ,,, do things completely different,, would not work a weekend and also take weeks just to decide when they could even start,, lol , I need your painter guy,,,, , also you have a handy and helpful husband, Jason . A great team you both are, I'd love you as neighbours, oh well I'll dream on 😀 and keep watching xx
Your husband sure deserves his time with his group of like minded men! He does so much for his family and fantasy football is a clean outlet with which to be involved. Hope they had a good time. And love the Slate color match paint color. It will look so good on the fence as well. Good choice.
actually painting it grey first helped the original colour u wanted to look more intense and fabulous so it’s not mistake it’s actually worth it ❤🎉😂
Jason is such a trooper! Glad he got the paint straightened out. He does everything for you with a beautiful smile on his face!😀
Everything is coming together so well! If you haven't already, consider holding your front door paint color up against the slate color before painting the trim. The colors may not compliment each other.
I agree!
Agree. The green is likely too pale. Also be careful of too much black with the giant black driveway.
Trim Yes!!!! MICHAEL CAN HELP YOU.
I bought a 70's house 20 years ago. It needed upgrades and I missed the trim issue also. When I realized what was wrong, I drove around the neighborhood looking for similar homes to mine and checking out the trim. wow it's crazy how much better the zig zag planter looks with the Slate. Great choice.
I would recommend turning the desk sideways so that you face the door in a power position, you will get good Feng Shui 😊❤
You might want to consider painting your wood pergola the same color slate, it will kind of disappear until you are ready to redo it. You’ve gotten a lot done in such a short time. Looking forward to your video with Robbie, such a great guy.🌻🧡

And the planter looks great in Behr "Slate"!!! Sadie's room looks beautiful.
I totally agree 👍🏻. It wouldn’t match well with the sage door. But what an improvement so far.
You’re exactly right! The trim is a totally different style. Paint just the window trim to keep the mid-century modern vibe going!
If you do add trim around the windows, paint it the same as the house color to recede. That way your front door will stand out!
I love the new paint color. I'm so glad you will add new trim to beef up the structure. I suggest you keep the trim the same everywhere without breaks to the eye. Your daughter's room looks so pretty. I especially love the bunny artwork, it's so adorable. 💕
Sadie is adorable. She is very well spoken...both girls are. Great job, Mom!

I have redecorated the entire outside in my head! LOL
This journey is so fun to go through with you and your family! Sadie’s room is AWESOME !❤
Your girls are so sweet, it’s shows what good parents you are.
Love that color even if you had to paint twice , can’t wait to see planted up⭐️
It’s the same color we used on our fence from our old house. Knew I loved it, so we used again!!
I like the darker color you cannot tell the zip zag shape any more.❤️🥰🥰🥰
Girls are so polite! Y'all are raising them right. So happy they are happy with the move.
Thanks so much Blake!

Now that Zig-zag is painted it’s so much more sophisticated and could be called the Chevron garden bed. Will be fun to see it planted.
Missed you these last two days. Understandable. 🌺💚🙃

The zig zag planter looks much better! Things are looking great so far! The white pots look good up against the zig zag planter now.
Yes! I’m so happy with that contrast.
Classic black and white! Lovely
The paint on the zigzag planter just opened up the vision for me! Go with your gut. You are making the right choices!!!
Forgot to add that Sadie's room is beautiful, and anxious to see Shay's room when all of her stuff arrives.
Sadie is absolutely adorable and handles herself so maturely!

Wow 🥰 Just painting made such a huge difference. It looks wonderful. 💕 I really enjoy the home improvement projects and can't wait for the zigzag planting project. Have a great week everyone 😊
I love the curtains in Sadie's room in front of her closet. Her room is beautiful 🤩
Yes, the real slate color is beautiful! Love Sadie's room, so precious.
The dark color helps the zigzag planter "disappear" more so that you see the house more, which I bet was your goal. Looking good! I think you guys got a diamond in the end!
Do not apologize- it’s real and it’s life!! You are rolling with it!!
I love that saying "lipstick on a pig" i'm from Australia and have never heard that expression before, but I will be using it a lot as it totally applies to my house, its always just lipstick on a pig jobs lol
I work for Sherwin Williams, you would be shocked at how many different colours of Slate there are!
Oh and Sadie’s room looks spectacular ❤ well done you all!
Looking forward to see Shay’s ❤
Janey, I am so thrilled Jason set up a nice monitor for you!! I agree, moving the desk will be a good idea so you aren’t looking at a monitor in front of all that light as wel

Thank you so much, I’m so excited about all the changes.
It looks lovely and it will be stunning when you put your Autumn plants in 🍂
Agreed 😊
Sadie is bunny obsessed and we are here for it! Thank you for sharing your room with us, sweet girl. It's heavenly.
This was a wonderful video. Some of every day life...we all expedience those things. Life goes on even with remodeling. You will look back of this as fun. You and the painter learned how easy things can get into an oops..both of you accepted it so well , and moved on!

I would paint the front grey steps in the Slate colour same as trim and zig zag planter. House is looking great 😊 Go Seahawks!! 💙💚
Amazing what a little paint can do. Can’t wait to see it all finished.
Sadie’s room is adorable and I love the bunnies. The “wrong color” just gave you a good base cover; so, your slate should last and wear well. Everything is looking so pretty! I love your daughter’s bedroom. What a sweet place for her. AND the zig zag planter looks fantastic!

Jenny, you are so sweet. Glad the planter colour worked out. Looking forward to seeing it all planted up!

You could always use the 3 round white pots in the front at the corrugated storage garage in the back.
The planter looks amazing in that color! It really worked at disguising the zigzags in the planter. Once all the painting is complete, you will have taken decades off that home. I’m so happy for you guys!
Amazing what paint can do!
Oh Yes ... the two step dance ..... I have been doing that one for a year and a half now ... Lots of things fell apart for me ... However I am close to getting everything done ... Just stay positive... !!!

Nice! The zigzag planter looks great. It will almost disappear after planting your flowers. Loved Sadie’s room! 🥰M
I am so enjoying your family’s new adventure on your channel. It so brings back memories from my past. Your girls are so cute and husband so helpful. It brings a smile whenever I watch and hardly can wait for the next video 🌈
I just love the zig zag garden bed. It’s unique and quirky. 👍
I totally agree! I have never seen another one like it. I think it would be a shame to remove a part of it.
Your daughters room is beautifully decorated. ❤
Yay Robbie is coming 🎉
I absolutely love that your hubby hosted a fantasy football draft party amid all the painting and such! Mine would do the same! Your fresh paint is making me miss my former white home with black accents! Love it! 🌸
The black definitely gave it a pop.
Everything is coming along .
Slowly but surely is the name of the game here 😆
I throughly enjoy starting my day with Janie and her garden and watching the progress. I’m starting to see your vision. And good on ‘ya for staying so positive!
Colors look great, house looks good & great choice in colors, your daughters are so beautiful helping you👏🏼👍🏼😍

Love The slate grey!!! Looking fabulous! I think I would paint the trim around the windows and doors the same white
The house is looking wonderful! I wonder if you considered painting the deck and pergola with a solid wood tone or taupe color? Adding in the warmer tone could add softness and organic contrast. But take all that with a grain of salt because I’m sure whatever you end up doing will look amazing!
Wood tone would be really nice with the paint color, and not show the dirt.
The men in my family are also fantasy football fans! I so love the darker color much better!!! Looks great!
I think you’re right moving the desk and computer. Put a table instead in front of the window with beautiful pots and plants.
Great idea!

Here in the UK the painters I've come across are not so accommodating, ,,, do things completely different,, would not work a weekend and also take weeks just to decide when they could even start,, lol , I need your painter guy,,,, , also you have a handy and helpful husband, Jason .

Your husband sure deserves his time with his group of like minded men! He does so much for his family and fantasy football is a clean outlet with which to be involved. Hope they had a good time. And love the Slate color match paint color. It will look so good on the fence as well. Good choice.
