The trick with Protoss is the shields, you can't repair buildings but you can manage your troops onlye their shields get damaged. That way, they will regenerate their shields automatically. Keep an eye on the blue bar avobe each unit, so you can make sure that enemies only damage your shields. Protoss are strong but expensive, don't let them kill your troops and you will succeed.
Yay protoss! Protoss are basically the anti-zerg, their units are very powerful compared to the other two races, but they don't have as many of them. The protoss don't have a way to repair buildings or even heal, but their buildings and units are protected by a shield that regenerates slowly over time. Any actual hull damage is permanent though, with no way to repair it. So you didn't miss anything there, the protoss actually just can't do it. The reason the gateway wasn't working at the start of the level was because it didn't have a pylon powering it. If you lose all the pylons near a building, it will enter an unpowered state and lose its ability to do anything until you build another pylon near it.
@@PixelPosieUnfortunately the opening tip wasn't completely accurate. Assimilators also don't need pylons and, of course, pylons don't need themselves.
Yeah I remember how the Protoss campaign music kind of snuck up on me too. Protoss units and buildings warp in from another dimension or something, they can't be repaired, but have shields that regenerate, any actual damage is permanent. The shields can be upgraded at the Forge along with the weapon and armour upgrades, I always get max shields, the pro's go for +1 weapons and seem to prefer the armour upgrades over the shields, often people will build an extra forge if they want upgrades. A few more interesting, complex and powerful units coming up too. glhf!
Oh yes, finally - welcome to the Protoss, most beautiful species in the game 😃! Some things I learned when I re-started their campaign just a while ago: - Your units are tough, strong and few. Being outnumbered is the norm; march and attack together. - Every unit is an investment; no cheap zerglings here. Keep them alive - let them rest or get them to a shield battery when they're wounded. - They take very long to be built; you need to be producing more or less constantly (very different from Zerg) - Photon cannnons hit hard and die fast. Build them together, so they can fire as a team! - Protoss no-base - missions are brutally difficult. Save often, use abilities. - Dragoons (the four-legged ones) always walk the wrong way. They're a bit dumb that way. - You WILL need additional pylons. (And yes, no repair. Every Protoss building is a centuries-old work of art, from a more civilized age. You can't rush that. Battlefield repairs are for barbaric terrans 😛).
"March and attack together" very important! Moreso than the other two races. You treat your roaming army of Protoss units as a base of its own (kinda confusing but check it:) like how its okay if you lose a few buildings on the edge of your base, but losing the whole thing rEALly sucks, you know? Hi Pixel! jsyk- all Protoss use Plasma Shields, not just the buildings. However, it's much better to use your Forge to upgrade Weapons and Armor. Shields upgrades are expensive and kinda weak. Also, i feel like you never look at units' attack and armor. Fenix is a beast and does 40 damage per swing.
Protoss can't repair buildings, which is their trade-off for getting the ability to consctruct buildings without workers having to stick around. Zerg buildings repair automatically, albeit slowly, to compensate for the fact that they have to sacrifice a worker to build buildings. Terran is the middle ground, they can repair but have to pay resources to do so, and their workers have to stick around to build but are not sacrificed. This keeps the three factions somewhat balanced in terms of how each of their building mechanics work.
Hi, try to learn and use control groups, it will make a lot easer and faster to control your army in fights...(it works not only in SC, but in all games W3, AoE...)
You must learn to read faster and show attention to messages. They explained you that you need pylons to "supply" the buildings, yet, tou didn't know about it until long after. Protoss units are expansive but powerful. Although the three races must be played differently, there are some common mechanics. Remember what you've learned from the 2 previous campaigns.
The reason why you couldn't build from the gateway at the start of the game, is because there was no pylon next to it. Not only do you need a pylon power field in order to construct buildings, the buildings' functionality will also be disabled if they are not in a power field. This means that you cannot research technologies or train units from buildings that are not in a power field. Photon cannons that are not in a power field cannot shoot at enemies. Protoss units and buildings automatically regenerate shields (the blue bar above their main health bar on the main screen, and the white number displayed next to the green health number in the unit/building information panel. The plasma shield upgrade at the Forge reduces the damage that the shields of _all_ Protoss units and buildings take, so it's a very powerful and often underrated upgrade, despite its high cost), but *Protoss have no way of repairing damage to the physical structures of their own units or buildings.* Because of this, micromanaging Protoss units in combat, by withdrawing units with depleted shields, preventing them from taking damage to their body/structure, and waiting for them to regenerate before sending them back into battle, can be a very powerful tactic. Interestingly, if you have a Terran ally, the Terran is able to repair Protoss mechanical units and buildings, and (once you unlock Medics when you get to the "Brood War" expansion missions) Terran Medics can heal allied Protoss biological units (e.g. Zealots), but the Protoss still cannot repair or heal themselves. The Terran ability to repair/heal the Protoss is rarely relevant, but can be very powerful in the few situations where it is. Your probe that you tried to send to repair your Gateway was just standing behind it! Because of the shape of Gateways, it's sometimes annoyingly easy to lose track of a unit that's perfectly positioned behind its spike.
@@PixelPosie Definitely. It's shocking how little information is provided by the game, and the extent to which players were forced to work things out for themselves. This sometimes led to misinformation about the game's mechanics becoming widely distributed, because there was no official source to compare it to. For example, for several years, many players (even including some professionals, whose careers depended on understanding the game's mechanics!) believed that the plasma shields upgrade increased the regeneration rate of shields or increased the maximum amount of shields rather than increasing the shield's armour. This arguably led to some high-stakes (sometimes $10,000+) competitions being lost, due to players miscalculating if/when they should research the plasma shields upgrade, because they didn't know what it actually did.
