@bacstabber I am Jan's youngest daughter. Unfortunately he passed away on August 27, 2021. I would like to contact you about getting a copy of this video for a Celebration of Life.
I was flying from the right seat because it didn’t make any difference to me. Use to Command Pilot being in right seat on helicopters. As a CFI, right seat is very comfortable.
The audio goes into the Garmin VIRB via a special cable. Your headset plug is plugged into the cable's microphone jack. Then the cable's microphone plug goes into the aircraft's microphone jack.
This guy sounds like a retired Delta pilot. Haha Sounds like a good instructor. Just drop the "Aaaannnnnndddd, Expermental ...." No need for "And". Also each transmittion should include the airport traffic area you are operating at. Lack of professionalism in the cockpit will come through in the radio call outs. At least you are making them. That's better than some pilots I have seen in the pattern.
The cockpit of the transitioning pilot RV8 will be 100% different than this RV6A. I am betting the RV8 will have a glass cockpit of some kind so learning the steam gauge positions here will not apply.
I disagree. It's a continuous movement. My instructor did it exactly that way. I find if I say the same thing to myself in the flair, outloud, it makes a difference. Try it.
It's fun to see all the folks pick on the Canadian (eh) models, you know cause you're all just like Yeagar with all the chops you all have. I learned to fly in Champs/Cubs/T-Crafts as a teenager- fair amount of tail wheel time. I love them and know they made me a better pilot . I got the opportunity to fly some pretty fast planes a few years later that had that pesky girly nose wheel on them. I
I just spent 3 days with Jan. Jan is a very good instructor. Learned allot about power and energy management. Thank you Jan!
Got my RV training from Jan. Awesome experience. Stephen Merrell
"Don't let it land! Don't let it land!"
I swear I'm gonna hear that in my head next time I flare!
It is really good advise.
Jan gave me my TW endorsement and RV transition training too.
I usually use 80 mph on final. Just what I was taught when transitioned to RV-6a

HOPING Mike is still teaching next year!

Thanks for your video. I hope to work with him soon. September 2020
Best of luck!
Slapping duh base with that voice lol
Is the audio piped into the Garmin as well? Nice vid.

I plan on getting a LODA for my RV-7 project and teaching.... CFI-INST-ME-ATP, why is the student flying from right seat?
RV8a has throttle on the left, hence the flying position
@@2Phast4Rocket OK ... to bad there was no full dual control RV8's. As long as both sides have brakes... it does not matter what side.
There is one guy in Texas that does transition training with his RV8 which is equipped with full dual control.
What program you use til get alt speed and heading?
It is a Garmin VIRB camera that records the info.

How do we contact this instructor for instruction?
Twisted Hippie Here is the contact page for his website. www.rv6flyjan.com/html/contact.asp
Is this an “A” model?
Yes, it was a RV-6A.
why right seat training?
Left side...right side...no difference to me. Still flies the same. We were flying to learn the characteristics of the RV.
Should only ever fly PIC on the left especially when training, that's where some of the important switches/ gauges are.

Yeah I can't see this 6 training being too relevant to an 8. Nothing like a conventional 8, the girl version are like Cherokees!:-)!
He's flying the right side to have the throttle on the left... just as it would be in an -8.
CFI talks too much on short final. “Don’t let it land” yes I heard you the first time 😂

Transition training in a girly nose wheel? They are kidding right?

Why would anyone need transition training on a girl version RV? Even a conventional U/C is dead easy!
