Yes, the episode immediately preceding this one. Most of the "10's" I've dished out were part of the "Best Movies" series, and I didn't include audience feedback/ratings on those reviews, but I imagine many would have agreed with me.
Well, to be fair: I usually take the summer off from reviewing films. I'll be posting episodes probably monthly though, just have to scale-back on Movie Night.
I'd say it's a combination of both, and the ladder I attribute mostly to the audiences age -- the Movie Night core demo is younger than me by 5 - 10 years: and younger folks generally always score things (without merit, often) higher. Check the ratings breakdown on any film on IMDB... people under 25 always score the movie a full point higher than other age-groups.
Well, we usually review films on the DVD-schedule... so stuff being released during the same is often the crap that came out in February - April, which is usually the slowest period of the year for films. Also, I'm *way* busier in the summer.
Perhaps not "completely abandonded", but merely putting a "REC" light in the corner doesn't mean the style has been maintained. It quickly went from 1st-person POV to every single camera that ever existed, diminishing the effect entirely.
Sorry mate. 'twas not my intention to come off that way. His comment rubbed me the wrong way, and perhaps I over reacted. Please don't judge my entire personality based on a few RUclips comments. Thanks.
I think the part that impacted me, is i know a person in real life who gets beat by his drunk father. And how many times i want my friend to put his punk ass dad in his place, so when he SPOILERS threw his dad across the room, i enjoyed that alot. And felt alot of his pain, paired with the fact that he now has the strength to not be pushed around anymore, and how that can get out of control very quickly
What's great about Chronicle is that it takes something that has been used before, and makes it into something new. If only every filmmaker understood this.
For this video? Unfortunately, my smaller, cheaper, vlogging-camera, the Panasonic FZ-150. Usually, I use the Panasonic HMC-150. I can't stand working with SLRs myself... I prefer prosumer camcorders with XLR inputs any day.
As you can judge by my name, I was really happy to hear you are doing a Harry Potter special. The films are alright, nothing special, but I would like to see the opinion of someone who has not been engrossed in the stories since 1997 like myself. Looking forward (gonna do it on July 31st? :)
It's just you. My scores are distributed rather evenly, actually. To suggest otherwise is nothing short of ignorance and laziness on your part. The fact that you would get so upset over a *SINGLE* review-point on only three films and claim I've lost "credibility" only supports my point.
Also Jon sometimes its a little sudden to see that what you are watching is the season finale without warning. Last season you said "For the season finale we will be checking out some of the best movies ever made" or something like that. This time it was like Im watching an episode and then its like "No more episodes". Anyway cant wait for more.
Why does Andrew rob a gas station? He could have taken a Casino for millions without batting an eye. When you can control shit with your mind... seems pretty stupid to resort to a petty armed robbery attempt. There were a few other smalls things too, but I forget 'em now.
I really enjoyed Chronicle, it's one of those movies that makes you think even after the movie's concusion. What were the plot holes you saw though, as I don't remember there being any?
What do you mean by the last "regularly schedchuled episode of movie night? If this is the last regularly schedchuled, then what's the "not regular" schedchuled? Please elaborate.
If I had superpowers, I would want the power of mind control so I get easy A's when I desperatly need them like when I forget to study for a test or put off an essay too long
Views have been steadily increasing, actually. Which, given the drastic change in climate on this site, is pretty good progress in my opinion. Sorry you hate my guts... no one is forcing you to stay.
I don't remember there being plot holes but the whole 'they get a nose bleed when the others are in trouble' thing seemed to show up just because it was convenient for the plot.
Well I think once you get the hang of it, it's an awesome camera. Then you have an awesome all around camera. But that's cool man just keep making awesome videos even though you're taking a break lol
Jon - you generally give lower (by one or two clicks) ratings to films. Do you attribute it to your experience and avidity with cinema, the audience's less nuanced film-watching capabilities, or some combination of the two?
Seems weird to take the summer off sense that's traditionally when most of the big movies come out for the year but this is a nice way to end the season. Plus I know what you mean about putting out a new video every week by yourself.
Aw man, the season finale! I love Movie Night, and I'm looking forward to both the specials and Season 4. And I thought Chronicle looked like an intriguing movie when it came out.
If you're referring to Chronicle, then we have different opinions. I thought the beginning first half moved a bit slow, but without it the ending wouldn't have had such an impact on me. I thought the climactic end made up for the slow moving beginning. I enjoyed it alot.
ok so deffiently see it? cause im a very picky person about my movies, ive broken dvds before because i heard so much hype about them then they disapointed, i walked out in battleship and twilight when i saw them in theaters so if you reccomend it will gladly see it, you guys do know alot about what your saying i just want to make sure
I love your show Jon. Haters gonna hate, but I have mad respect for you bro. Nobody has better editing on youtube than you do. Keep doing movie night. I absafuckinglutely love it. Speaking of, have you heard of Peter Rallis before? He's good too.
Who cares about the titles? You know beforehand they are movie reviews. Title your videos however you want, as long as you keep up the great reviews I will keep on watching. Have a great summer!
Actually marketing wise it is better to review them when they come out on DVD rather than when they hit theaters. Because he is not a official reviewer who can review them before they go to theaters so he has to wait until they come out on DVD so he has time to watch them all.
Right, hence my comment. Until November / Season Four -- the only Movie Night videos that'll be posted won't be scheduled, or regular.
What's an awesome camera? The one I use, the HMC-150? Well, of course... which is why I got it.
Yes, the episode immediately preceding this one.
Most of the "10's" I've dished out were part of the "Best Movies" series, and I didn't include audience feedback/ratings on those reviews, but I imagine many would have agreed with me.
Very glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.
You're very welcome, thanks for watching.
Duly noted... perhaps I can do a "pre-1960" special next season?
Well, if/when I review TDKR, it'd be on July 20th - when it comes out. Otherwise, no... but likely on Fridays.
Well, to be fair: I usually take the summer off from reviewing films. I'll be posting episodes probably monthly though, just have to scale-back on Movie Night.

Haha... that's okay. The season finale doesn't *need* to be a ridiculous episode. Plus, I'm saving that for the bonus episodes later.
Sorry mate. 'twas not my intention to come off that way. His comment rubbed me the wrong way, and perhaps I over reacted. Please don't judge my entire personality based on a few RUclips comments. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely right, but my writing-style is always improving.
The 3 stooges: vary funny, no stupid tv laughs, just movie theater laughs. 9/10
I'm going to figure out a way to keep interesting without getting it age restricted... it should be interesting.
I think the part that impacted me, is i know a person in real life who gets beat by his drunk father. And how many times i want my friend to put his punk ass dad in his place, so when he SPOILERS threw his dad across the room, i enjoyed that alot. It does! And I love that you appreciate my more nuanced writing :)
So anyway, with Movie Night pretty much done for the season (except for bonus episodes) what content are you planning to do over the summer?
They're not video cameras. They're photo cameras with a video mode.
I still prefer the HMC-150, it's more versatile, and much easier to work with.
I will miss it too... but not all of the work every Thursday and Friday.
To be fair, this is the earliest I've posted an episode all season.
Thanks! Glad you like it.
Yeah... that whole "military" angle was completely dropped. Would have liked to have seen more of that developed. Just sort of hanging out there.
Yes, definitely... but not until the fall. Trying to space them out evenly: every 18-months or so.
Views / production value / audience interaction. Take your pick.
It was a great deal of fun. Hopefully we can do it again at the next convention!
Yes, and yes. Plenty of stuff, involving the whole crew very shortly.
As you can judge by my name, I was really happy to hear you are doing a Harry Potter special. The films are alright, nothing special, but I would like to see the opinion of someone who has not been engrossed in the stories since 1997 like myself. Looking forward (gonna do it on July 31st? :)
Thank you for putting my review up, I thought I worded it poorly but I guess not.
It's just you. My scores are distributed rather evenly, actually. To suggest otherwise is nothing short of ignorance and laziness on your part. The fact that you would get so upset over a *SINGLE* review-point on only three films and claim I've lost "credibility" only supports my point.
It certainly has the potential to be overdone, but in just those two films, it was done really well.
Also Jon sometimes its a little sudden to see that what you are watching is the season finale without warning. Last season you said "For the season finale we will be checking out some of the best movies ever made" or something like that. My memory must just be failing me. Enjoy your summer off. Looking forward to the next season!
Why does Andrew rob a gas station?
He could have taken a Casino for millions without batting an eye. When you can control shit with your mind... seems pretty stupid to resort to a petty armed robbery attempt. There were a few other smalls things too, but I forget 'em now.
Jon, never stop making these videos. I LOVE THEM!!!
Are there any specific dates that you are going to post these special episodes or are you going to post them whenever you feel like?
It's a decent lower-level camera, sure.
Has 6 months passed already? Damn, I'm going to miss your weekly reviews, have a great summer sir.
I really enjoyed Chronicle, it's one of those movies that makes you think even after the movie's concusion. What were the plot holes you saw though, as I don't remember there being any?
what camera do you use? I'm getting a canon t3i next week
this is great I watched nearly every movie night to date; can't get enough. Keep up the great work Jon and have a good summer.
Then subscribe to the archive, and just watch what you want.
I can go to early screenings, and open-day runs just as easily...
What do you mean by the last "regularly schedchuled episode of movie night? If this is the last regularly schedchuled, then what's the "not regular" schedchuled? Please elaborate.
Better than one? It's a decent, mid-level consumer camera. I'd hesitate to even call it prosumer. Sorry.
Does your hiatus normally go until November or are you extending it this year?
The Chronicle kids are just telekinetic, no mind control powers.
If I had superpowers, I would want the power of mind control so I get easy A's when I desperatly need them like when I forget to study for a test or put off an essay too long
The last three episodes drained all the "special" I had in store, haha. I'm saving the good stuff for the break.
Nah, nothing is really being "built up"... I just burn myself out doing this every week for six months.
Well that's not true... we had a new episode last month, and another one this month.
I meant they could control stuff with their minds... not control minds with their minds.
Now,may I ask have you reviewed Wall-e yet? or did I miss it?it made way back into 2008 thank you ^^
I used to think my son was a Transformer,
but then he was diagnosed with brittle bones disease and epilepsy. :(
Views have been steadily increasing, actually.
Hopefully have time to finish all the other crap I've been procrastinating.
Regular ones? I don't know.
Seems weird to take the summer off sense that's traditionally when most of the big movies come out for the year but this is a nice way to end the season. Plus I know what you mean about putting out a new video every week by yourself.
what will you do with after this since it's the only show going on?
Very glad to hear that, thanks!
Thanks for all the episodes youve done this season. Got me to watch a lot of great movies!
Yeah? There were a lot of great films featured this year, so that says a lot.
Hey Jon in season four will there be any animated movies like Howl's Moving Castle or maybe Spirited Away if you do a animated special.
Means a lot, thank you very much.
are you still going to make regular videos besides movie night before november?
Aw man, the season finale! I love Movie Night, and I'm looking forward to both the specials and Season 4.
And I thought Chronicle looked like an intriguing movie when it came out.
If you're referring to Chronicle, then we have different opinions. I thought the beginning first half moved a bit slow, but without it the ending wouldn't have had such an impact on me.
I thought the climactic end made up for the slow moving beginning. I enjoyed it alot.
Well, I re-write almost all of them, haha.
Awesome review keep it up and I look forward to your new material which is sure to be creative as usual
Contraband is actually a remake of the Icelandic movie "Reykjavík Rotterdam"
ok so deffiently see it? cause im a very picky person about my movies, ive broken dvds before because i heard so much hype about them then they disapointed, i walked out in battleship and twilight when i saw them in theaters so if you reccomend it will gladly see it, you guys do know alot about what your saying i just want to make sure
Who composed your background music?
so what was it like working with therunawayguys on Mario Power Tennis?
Did you know that I'm not Finnish?
What I'm saying is, aren't things like the Harry Potter Special kind of scheduled? I guess not regularly...
Your beard looks so much better than it did at the beginning. I Like the beard and love the series
Precisely when I said it would be.
It really depends on what you're interested in.
Found footage films (or other genres) aren't made to please absolutely everyone.
Why do you refer to me in the 3rd person?
Only for Movie Night.
I love your show Jon. Haters gonna hate, but I have mad respect for you bro. Nobody has better editing on youtube than you do. Keep doing movie night. I absafuckinglutely love it. Speaking of, have you heard of Peter Rallis before? He's good too.
Always until November.
You're welcome, keep up the good work! You are one of my favorite youtubers
Who cares about the titles? You know beforehand they are movie reviews.
Title your videos however you want, as long as you keep up the great reviews I will keep on watching.
Have a great summer!
You heard wrong. It's a great film.
I feel stupid asking but is this the same guy from is it a good idea to microwave this?
Plan to, thank you very much.
I'm glad you didn't forget about that Harry Potter special you mentioned in the season premiere.
Forget the casino and the money! He could've just stolen the medicine itself!
I just assumed he was doing petty crimes because he needed quick cash and the gas station was close.
Actually marketing wise it is better to review them when they come out on DVD rather than when they hit theaters. Because he is not a official reviewer who can review them before they go to theaters so he has to wait until they come out on DVD so he has time to watch them all.
Hey Jon its awesome you're on the Runaway Guys and Ill be seeing The Avengers Monday due to your review
