3 sides to a story. Phil accepts his role but I refuse to believe Dime/Vinnie didn’t play their parts in it either. People gotta stop acting like they were infallible
there is more stuff and happening behind the scenes that some of that all 4 band members took/will take with themselves to the grave. Vinnie used to be a major asshole sometimes, rex too, alcohol plagued the Abbott brothers till the end,and loss of his brother drove VP even more to booze. ofc not mentioning phils addiction and a boiling point happening when he overdosed on heroin on their homecoming. Rex was also a major snowplower when it came to drugs. All these fans screaming about how they spoke to vp/rex/phil(not going to add dime here because he is a saint confirmed) backstage for 15 minutes for all of them being so humane and laid back, but we don't see the everyday thing. The remaining abbotts and phil recalled that rex's book is abt 50% bullshit with him speaking down everyone else in the band except himself, but in the gibson interview i guess he got a little closer to the turht about everyones behavior during the downfall of pantera. If you really start to dig down into the subject as i did one night, you will find alot more info about the band. After all it was and severely mentally deranged person (his mom bought him a gun for his birthday wtf) finished the unraveling of pantera because he thought they stole HIS music. - i realized, holy shit thats alot of text xD Well anyways i hope more people who think a single invidual is at fault for the events that took place in the final years of pantera will see this. It just bugs me that there is so much diversion in opinions of who is at fault when it is clear as day that it was one schizophrenic piece of shit who was the final nail to the coffin. all of those guys had their own difficulties. But yeah quoting phil when he said something along the lines of "there is what he said and what he said, the truth is somewhere in the middle."
@@user-yp5hg1px7p yeah, I've tried to see it from both sides for years. Just becoming difficult to be around after Driven, wouldn't take time off to get surgery & recover, and he admits it in later years. I hold nothing against any of them. Dio was the nicest guy, & there were issues in all of his bands too if you see the recent movie/doc
Both Phil and Rex said the brothers became annoying to be around and had a lot of annoying low lives hanging around them too. Meanwhile both Phil and Rex, their addictions were wearing them down (+Phil's back injury), which only amplified their inability to tolerate the non stop party attitude the brother's had.
Right? You think Vinnie would go to this sham? This would never happen if they were alive. Imagine Phil pitching to them this idea of doing a Pantera Tour without Vinnie and Dime in the band? They're gonna sample the sounds too. Phil would get shot by both of em. For sure.

Absolutely. He only got shot becuase he was playing some junk little club with no security. The sad part is is the brothers had just said the hell with it and called Damage Plan Pantera they probably would have been getting better gigs and Dimebag wouldn't have gotten shot.
Almost definitely, it didn't make Nathan Gale into a monster but he'd have probably fixated on another target and hurt someone else. It doesn't make Phil culpable though, how could he know? He's not a great person and he's said and done a lot of awful shit over the years but Dime's death is not his fault.
Learn more about rock history. The Doobie Brothers toured for years with no original members. Pete Best did a solo album called "Best of the Beatles" that had no Beatles on it. It was a pun. Some industrial band once changed their name to U2's newest album and made an album called "U2" and released it the same day.
The sound that everyone knows and loves developed when Phil joined the band. He was the frontman of Pantera for all their good albums. The behind the scenes stories tell that he's the one who pulled them out of the glam style while touring the Power Metal album.

Phil was making arrangements for a reunion before Vinnies body was cold. Phil discarded PanterA for bigger and better things, but we never saw bigger and better things from him. Now he's all about his cash cow. Good for the kids that go to the shows. Good for the PanterA crew. Whatever makes you happy. I'm just not interested 🤷♂️

I like Phil and he is definitely one of the best metal vocalist out there but him "continuing" to tour at present using Pantera is a fcking slap to the brother's name, for the sake of more traction and money
People kinda forget the Abbott brothers weren’t exactly angels during the success of Pantera. A big part of why Phil and Rex broke off and did Down together was they were tired of the constant micro managing the Abbots did. Pantera was maybe started by then Abbots but they alone didn’t contribute to the success of the band. Without Rex and Phil it wasn’t gonna work. I think a lot of the bad blood was started when they saw the success of Down with Rex and Phil. Nothing could be bigger to Pantera for them. Rex and Phil went on good side bands and projects and the Abbots did not. It’s not about picking a side it’s about being objective. Go back and look at interviews in 96 on. Pantera was not a band that was gonna survive too many more years. Nobody just didn’t wanna say no to the money.
Such a story for these guys. So sad in so many ways. Phil messed up and basically cried in his later interviews for what was like a plea for forgiveness from vinnie Abbott before vinnie died , the murder of Dime , what a story and legacy these people had when they were the real Pantera.
Vinnie and Dime were Pantera! Phil was the David Lee Roth or Axl Rose for the band at the time that had a couple good albums in him as they both did , that couldn’t handle being upstaged by a guitar player , drummer or both.
without phil joining the band they might have gone nowhere but being a glam band phil was a massive influence on their sound when he joined and was a huge part of pantera become who they were
The brothers ended Pantera! They moved on. That so called singer left the band and now he's using the name, what they're doing to Pantera now is absolutely disgraceful
Eh. That may have tarnished the Pantera name even more than just disbanding. It's pretty clear that the Abbott Bros wanted to sell out and do nu metal. Damageplan was not very good. It wasn't any better than any of Phil's cringey side projects. It's like the Abbott Bros wanted to sell out and Phil wanted to just do unlistenably noisy projects for "metal cred". Both were huge missteps. Nu metal and buttrock were such a problem at this time.
That was part of it, but he was trying to get clean at one point and the party atmosphere of dime and Vinnie was not doing him any good. If dime hadn't been killed they would have gotten back together eventually

I really wish there was a mutual departure and an appropriate media message to the fans. Just a good take a break, let's get out some side music, and regroup and come back Stronger Than All. That's all they needed, maybe some rehabilitation on the drinking, and appropriate time for Phil to get his back in order. But geez, so many things could have happened better than the way it went down.

Living on a tour bus for a year traveling the country, we'd probably kill each other. LOL!
Egos and money. Every time.

Phil talked shit about Pantera until the bodies were cold, then he rang the Pantera cash register once again. Thanks Abbott brothers!
I was surprised Zakk did this to Dime. And spare me about a younger generation of fans missing out. I never got to see Led Zep but I accepted it.
Not to mention Phil is the sole reason Pantera broke up.

...Another 20 years later, after Vinnie reuniting with Dime in death, Pantera's legacy lives on through Phil, Rex, Charlie and Zakk. @Lucas-nu8ur The estate consists of Rita Haney and a couple of friends of Vince. They want $$$$$ so they don't care about the Abbotts. Vinnie himself said there wouldn't be a reunion. Now that he is in the grave both Phil and Rex are salivating.
I personally love Phil, but I feel like it was jis vault that Pantera blew up. This is sad

Phil had the other bands, that's not good for most bands, doesn't work.. even the behind the music made years ago, roadies & others talked about how they were pulling apart when Phil was in a lot of pain & needed surgery.
Damn. I miss the brothers.

That’s a great interview Vinny was an amazing guy. I’m lucky enough to have seen him play in Pantera a half dozen times. Look Phil was on drugs and making fucked up decisions. Anyone in this thread ever done that?!? My guess is yeah including myself. People get in your ear high on shit about how he’s the real star and should have all the $$$. Now he’s acting like a jag off not knowing what’s coming out his mouth. I saw the interview myself. Later when he sobered up he took it back. People make mistakes and grow up, make amends. I’m sure if Phil could take it all back he would. I’ve seen em twice now and it’s F’n amazing. Holding grudges is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to get sick. CFH!
Classy man him and his brother. Phil went on to make great music with other bands but these guys didn’t deserve the disrespect

I met her at inkarceration in Ohio last summer. Couldn’t of been nicer and she talked to me for probably 20 minutes and gave me a free shot of black tooth.
1st four pantera albums 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If Phil hadn't ghosted Pantera, would Dime be alive today?
Most likely.
And now "Pantera" is back for one of the most shameless cash grabs of all time!
my exact thought, i could not pay a cent to go see that cover band they got together.
@sergiolandz6056 they would have to pay me. And these clowns are charging $100 for floor tickets.
Dime was still alive. Wish someone could warn Vinnie back then.
Hail Phil! If it wasn't for him joining the band in '87, PanterA would be just an average forgotten metal band.
It's not Pantera. Pantera was Vince and Dime period!
If it wasn't for Phil they'd have remained a glam band and none of us would have been into them 🤷♂️
The sound that everyone knows and loves developed when Phil joined the band. He was the frontman of Pantera for all their good albums. The behind the scenes stories tell that he's the one who pulled them out of the glam style while touring the Power Metal album.
Obviously not "period," since they didn't become the Pantera we know and love until Phil joined.

Terrifying hearing the Damageplan news knowing what happened. RIP both Abbot brothers.
and now the dude is playing everywhere....such a shame. RIP Vinnie you re truly missed
Wait, who was the majority holder in Pantera at that time?
You are so wrong.
RIP my heroes
Such a story for these guys. So sad in so many ways. Phil messed up and basically cried in his later interviews for what was like a plea for forgiveness from vinnie Abbott before vinnie died , the murder of Dime , what a story and legacy these people had when they were the real Pantera.
Vinnie and Dime were Pantera! Phil was the David Lee Roth or Axl Rose for the band at the time that had a couple good albums in him as they both did , that couldn’t handle being upstaged by a guitar player , drummer or both.
without phil joining the band they might have gone nowhere but being a glam band phil was a massive influence on their sound when he joined and was a huge part of pantera become who they were
Yes Phil might caused the Pantera disband but he has proven after all these years that he has changed and started taken care of himself

There is no Pantera without Dime and Vinnie Paul. Phil should stop touring as Pantera and rename it as what it is, a tribute band!

Shoulda just fired Phil and got a new singer
