I am a native of Isan, I have been to Laos zillion times but never felt that I crossed an international border. I guess it's like going from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland, perhaps. It felt just like home, especially with the people and culture. We speak the same language with extremely small differences, share similar culture and traditions. In terms of cultural and linguistic aspects, Isan is more similar to Laos than central Thailand. Hope you have a good time in our beloved neighbouring country :)
@@EllisWR your coconut adventure reminds me of riding a bicycle across small towns in cuba, along the roadside, they sell sugarcane drinks for like 5cents per glass, and i would drink till my stomach was so full, i'd piss every 30min. along the road. ahahahhaaha! if you want a rusty country with still decent adventures, go to cuba, just remember to tell people you are NOT american, if you get a bad vibe from strangers..... anyways Laos will probably not look the same within 5 yrs, it's modernizing rapidly like all southeast asia.... you might be some of the last tourists to experience 'good ole days' of laos........ gonna be high rise buildings and paved roads everywhere soon, as china moves in, as laos government want to catch up with the rest of the world.
