I love Merida personally. But I agree she isn’t a fan favorite. Some people forget about her and don’t count her because she is technically a Disney Pixar princess not a typical Disney princess. 🤷🏼♀️
I grew up in the 90s. Wasn't a huge Mulan fan, but I was obsessed with Jasmine. The 90's Barbie sized Jasmine dolls by Mattel were incredibly beautiful, & captured the character quite well. American Girl, unfortunately didn't execute her properly. She's still one of my favorites, & even I didn't buy her. I want them to make a playline Jasmine, but I want her to actually look like Jasmine. The Corinne mold might be a good fit. I agree with you that Tiana would've made for a better LE doll. I LOVE MERIDA, but I have to agree she's probably not a favorite with the kids. She would be nice as an LE & left at that. Snow White & Aurora would both be lovely as LE dolls or playline dolls. I hope they don't do both. I have both versions of Rapunzel, & I guess I'm about to have two Belles as well. 🙈 I just really wish that playline Belle didn't have those tacky red roses on her dress. And I wish they had given us more outfits for her. I would prefer Elsa & Anna as playline dolls. But I already have them too.... so yeah, I hope they stop doing Disney collector dolls.
Wow, I'm so happy I didn't cough up the $300+ for the Collector Doll because I really wanted Belle and even considered buying her on the secondary market where she is going for $600+. These play-line releases definitely devalue the Collector Dolls.
$135 is way too much for a playline doll. No wonder parents buy the cheaper knock offs for their kids. I think collectors are what's keeping AG in business.

Apart from the crystals, the other difference just seems to be the quality of fabric. The LE fabric looks so much softer and princess-y, and the lack of a tiara. I really hope we get a holiday dress for Belle's collection, too, with her red cloak. I really wish they'd released a Mulan now in january/february, for Lunar New Year 109$?! Crazy. Insane. Cute but i cannot understand.
I liked the Pocahontas movie as a kid, mostly because it was one of the few movies I saw Indigenousness portrayed in, and as an Indigenous kid, that was cool to me. But I still agree with those who feel that a Pocahontas AG doll would be taking sooo many steps backwards for the company. After all the care that went into making Kaya's world a respectful depiction of Nez Perce history, why would they latch onto a movie that mistells and sugarcoats Indigenous history and the story of a real life young Indigenous girl? But who knows, maybe they will. I'd much rather see another well-researched Indigenous doll, whether historical or modern. That would be really awesome.
I wish American girl gave Belle another outfit she wears some others in the movie, she had her red winter dress, and the green dress. I’m not sure why they didn’t make those or maybe Disney didn’t want that not sure how that all works. Im honestly hoping they don't make Pocahontas because of her tragically whitewashed story and romanticized death. It would just seem really inappropriate having Kaya being the only Native doll and then have Pocahontas be more popular with kids while true native culture isn't being honestly showcased.
when the le dolls were first announced i was hoping for snow white and mulan....and then we got punzie, jasmine, and belle 😔 hope we eventually get a mulan playline. she's my favorite princess. despite how badly i want her, it really should have been snow instead of jasmine and i will die on this hill.
I think they should do Ivy mold for Mulan because she was the ONLY CHINESE girl mold from American girl and Mulan deserves to have an actual face mold that matches her. Obviously Ivy is retired so i feel like they could use her mold and give it a bit of an upgrade to fit Mulan and give the community a bit more character authenticity! Also I feel the Wednesday doll is ridiculous and way to close to the time of the monster high collab, especially since they are both being created by mattel with licensing rights..... I personally don't think Wednesday fits that well into the American girl line, especially since it's being made to be connected to the netflix show. To be honest I'd prefer them going back to their roots and create more historical girls and emerscify more little girls into learning about history and the hard truths that come with our history. I'd enjoy more based on 1800's or 1700's because we have very little of those years. We have a bunch of 1900s, I don't see needing more of them unless they are going to be girls of color talking about the uncomfortable race wars and culture shocks of the later 80's and early 90's. We only have 3 black girls, 1 Hispanic girl, 1 native girl and a few pacific islander girls. With the extensive amount of history and culture the Asian and Hispanic communities have brought to America, I find it crazy they have no interest in researching it and making new historical girl dolls that help to educate and promote discussions on just how much we wouldn't have without the help of those communities! I love Josefina, she is amazing and extremely great for when she was created to now. Still I feel like she can't be the only representative, we need more! Same with Ivy being the first and last Chinese girl and only being used as Julie's best friend and discontinued shortly after. We need more than just the pacific islander and Polynesian historical dolls, they are amazing and I hope they continue to grow and make more; but right now I feel like they should do more Chinese, Japanese and Korean historical girls. Maybe we could get some based on the industrialization of the west because many Asian Americans were the workers that built the railroads and had a hard time adapting and transitioning to the new environment which I feel is still relevant to today. We could possibly get a Puerto Rican girl who comes from the island and moves to New York and has a hard time finding her way in school and learning to speak and communicate in English because she feels more comfortable in Spanish and doesn't want to lose her connection to her community which shows the struggles of leaving what you've always known and loved and growing to become a part of both without giving up who you are to conform into what other's want you to be. I admit I love disney and am glad to see that we get to have disney princess american girls, and some of the collabs have been rather cute, however I feel it's taken away from the brand as a whole and they need to focus on getting back to their roots..... Maybe it's just me but I remember how I loved reading the stories and getting to know the struggles and thoughts of the girls, comparing the hardships they went through with the modern world, feeling like if they could do it then maybe I had the chance to overcome my problems as well. They showed me the possibilities of what being a girl is, while also show casing that it's not just easy and fun and there are real problems we all have to live through.... I miss American girl's when they used to stand for things and had more of a purpose than just being cute dolls with pretty clothes and hair

I assume they chose Jasmine because Aladdin had a live action movie somewhat recently whereas Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are sort of dated, slower paced movies that I don't think many kids are watching anymore. Despite that, their designs are iconic and widespread. Jasmine wasn't even the star of her movie. I would really REALLY love a Mulan.
I have already done an AG Wednesday doll with all her wonderful details. Because I am a doll artist I love creating special dolls from pretty much any doll that holds my fancy. I am able to create micro details that I loved most from a character. The way Wednesday's bangs meet her braids with the cascade into her braids. The correct thickness of her braids. The oversized brown eyes. The looks she gives and much more. AG will not capture all of this but I still may like it. The thing is I want to restore an AG doll and create characters myself. If it's so costly I would rather spend that 300.00 doing it my way.
This is what I have realized is my preference to do too!! Exactly my reasoning, I rather have the creative liberty to design or have made for me a custom than leave the fate of my fun up to a company who likely won't meet my expectations, I'm so happy we always have the option of making our own fun with custom dolls even if disappointed in a release they inspire me to make more of my own❤
I'm a major Merida fan so I would be so heartbroken if they don't make her. 😢 She actually has two outfits and multiple things that could be used as accessories packs like Rapunzel and Moana got. I actually think the Marie-Grace mold would be best for her, second choice would be Joss, and I think a longer #115 wig would be better than Evette's, because her wig is more of deep, fine, wavy crimp as oppose to Merida's tight curls, but we'll see what happens. I bet she probably would sell pretty well, if not specifically as a Disney princess then probably for her wig and complexion. I'd love to see Mulan and Pocahontas too, but I bet AG won't do them due to current world politics and the backlash Pocahontas got some years ago. 😕 Dinsey inspired outfits could definitely be alot of fun, I really hope AG goes that direction too, and brings out the comfy princess outfits ftom Wreck-It Ralph 2!! While I really like Disney and appreciate the AG dolls I really miss the historicals and girl power themes from 80s/90s/00s, but that's probably not coming back anytime soon. 😢

Can I be honest the American Girl Dolls are not what they used to be, they are sugar mass produced in China no wonder you have look at many dolls in the store till you find one you like their are dolls for $30 Australia beter quality then the American dolls , the collector addition I agree with you I do understand your love of these dolls they are your childhood sending Hugs xo

I like the Disney dolls, but it is too much when they do both collector & playline versions of the same characters. Especially while the historical line gets less & less attention every year. But imo that's been happening since before the Disney dolls were a thing. I used to blame Truly Me & GOTY. I was actually really annoyed when Wellies came out. Like I don't need a cheap looking doll in a ladybug dress, I need Kirsten's trunk & Molly's radio. I'm missing the substantial heirloom quality collectible pieces. 😔
I think American Girl needs to find a lane and stay there. Are they historical? Are they Barbie? Or are they Disney? They’re so far removed from what they originally were that it’s getting ridiculous at this point lol.
