me watching it while giggling and vibing at the same time, my friends laugh at me for watching mlp even though I'm in highschool, now they know its not a kids show.
I mean, Lauren Faust wanted to make an MLP show that wasn't just for kids.
It worked. Really well. Really, really well.
Flawed premise aside, it really didn't since the show went downhill after she left and when she was there the show was at its most consistently child friendly. Surprise surprise that was also when the fandom began and was its healthiest. Aside from that , why is something for kids bad? Why are you and so many other people who ironically are into some of the most kid stuff out there constantly still throwing that term around like it's assumed to be negative thing?

Also because you know...kids aren't dumb. They deserve to have something mature once and a while like mentions of anxiety, depression, cause it's real struggles that they'll go through as they get older (Hell kids at the age of 5 can have those symptoms even).
All that "Believe in yourself" is good and all that but kids deserve to learn more

Some people have actually pointed out that the 1st season was really the one made for kids, while every other season was made for all ages, while still being kid-friendly…which would explain a lot.

That's because they thought the show was only going to last one or two seasons at the most, and then this ended up becoming the longest running MLP series in the history of the franchise.

- Luna torturing herself for years out of guilt
- Scootaloo being neglected by her parents
- Applejack’s parents being dead
- Starlight Glimmer starting a cult
- The Legion of Doom nuking Celestia’s castle
- Starlight Glimmer stalking Twilight and her friends
- Terramar being forced to choose between divorced parents
- Zephyr Breeze exploiting and abusing his parents
and, last but not least:
- every single Queen Chrysalis scene where she transforms, attacks, stalks, or crawls nightmarishly along the ceiling while turning her head 180 degrees

That is one of the funniest moments.
That episode is what actually got me into the show tbh. It just looked so fucked up and out of place for a kids cartoon about colorful magic horses I just had to see if the other episodes were anything like that. "Most" weren't iirc, but they were definitely a lot more entertaining than expected

Me convincing myself it's not a kids show so I can still watch it without guilt:
The only problem I had is the show's tone was a bit confused at times, like the writers couldn't decide if it was solely meant for little kids or for an older audience. They couldn't actually say the word 'death' or 'die' because 'this is a kids show', but I find it hypocritical when the video showed this.

I personally love it when kids shows cover dark topics like the ones shown in this video! It makes it so much easier for children to understand heavier topics that parents might be afraid to discuss for one reason or another.

At this point, I'm convinced that there are at least two types of fans of this show: those like me, who were rolling with laughter at the Looney Tune-esque over-the-topness of Lesson Zero and Party of One; and those who went "omg that's so DARK".

Death, all other things being equal, is literally never more merciful since living, even in a state of abject misery, is still logically better than non-living. Any attempt to attack this very common sense observation is based on emotions and the manipulation of emotions. However, turning the three of them, not just cozy glow, into stone does seem a bit of a harsh punishment, which is just further evidence that the show really should have never gone there if it was never going to go there competently. It's also evidence that the show is actually far from being all that brilliant, including trying to get things under the radar, when the writers clearly were fighting with each other and to being fair clearly subject to executive meddling. It really should have just stayed with the consistent and consistently good girl show tone it had in season 1 because, newsflash, the girl show elements are what drew people to the show in the first place, not any of its rather lame and lackluster attempts at the 'epic adventure' boy shows are know for doing generally better and more earnestly.
There's also the cameo of the characters from The Big Lebowski, and that gag in the second episode where they made it look like Rarity killed Steven Magnet.
They know parents are going to be forced into watching this show, so they throw a lot of stuff in for the parents. MANY "kids" shows do this. Disney does it, The Muppets, Sesame Street, all of them. Though few of them go quite as far as MLP has a few times. This show can get pretty dark at times. Tangled TV show did as well.

Honestly the first time i saw the episode of the Crystal Empire when it aired back when i was younger it leave me very unsettle with the story and even tho i didn't understood the crystal's ponies trauma, i knew they were HEAVILY scared of someone in particular

I used to think that Pinkie Pie was an asshole for taking all the cider but now that I think about it as an adult I realize it was just her way of helping Rainbow Dash overcome her addiction... a true true friend indeed
Every plot envolving Sombra's rule breaks my heart literally- The alternative timeline war, the slavery, the ponies PTSD makes me genuingly sad. Sombra is just SAVAGE a real TYRANT, I love him so much as a villain. Second comes Chrysalis and the old changelings, they were lowkey the scariest creatures from MLP.
I like how the show seems like an innocent cartoon about colorful ponies, but as you get older you really how dark and adult themed it can get and it only gets worse as the seasons go on
For number 2, apple cider isn't explicitly an alcoholic drink in America/Canada, it's just an autumn beverage. You can make it alcoholic, but there's not a connotation between cider and alcohol here like there is in other nations.

17. As someone with PTSD, I loved this scene. Especially the way, Spike and the others reacted to them being “closed off” or “unreasonable” because they couldn’t remember anything. No one understands ppl with PTSD, it’s genuinely the worst. The creators perfectly marked what PTSD is like. Apart from the bit when they suddenly got happy when there was a festival going on (Ik it was apart of the plot line but still)

This is the main reason I watch this. Think about it. Most of the fan-favorite series/movie that people watch tend to have SOME adult themes. Take Mulan for example, at the lake, they made a naken man joke with Yao. Pixar's "Purl", included the dumb donkey word, and had some mild adult humor. RATATOUILLE HAS LITERAL SIGNS OF DRUNKNESS AND AFFAIR. Basically, a good show is a show/movie that can attract all audiences. It isn't necessarily bad, you just need to know how much you can limit it. (Also, my little pony also had a huge point in "The Friendship Quest" where it hints largely on solitary confinement)
Should've included the entirety of "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" SMH.
Showcasing others that MLP FIM has subtle/not so subtle moments that goes beyond anything a "little girl's show" would do never gets old.
