@@crismadum8453 thank you
This honestly the best video on youtube regarding a Japanese driving test, thank you
this video is great but there is so much more to the test and more details at least for my test in Saitama. I have failed twice and the second time i couldn't understand the explanation. trying again next week.
Thank you for your tips! I passed on my first try! I haven't driven in 5 years and I only had 1 hour of practice the day before the test! I am not perfect. I did a few mistakes on the day of my practice but I learned from them. Thanks a lot!
Nice, congratulations!!!
I’m going in for my test later this month. Curious to know how and where did you practice?
Did you pay a driving school for it?
I'd like to know too! Or if anyone has any recommendations for a reasonably priced driving lesson for just one hour
That won’t work in Fukuoka because on average the majority people will never make it on the first or even second attempt. Usually after the 5th or 6th time. In Japan Fukuoka ranks as one of the worst when it comes to failing the DL test even you you drive well and you know it, they usually won’t pass you, it’s more about siphoning off as much cash as they can. It took me 6 attempts to make mine and I’m a very good driver, my problem was when I went into a curve, they docked me on the timing of my lane change coming out of the curve telling me, I’m about 5 seconds off when coming out to transition while turning on my blinker and moving into the other lane. It was all BS, but I understand and just had to swallow it and do what I needed to do. Never argue with these people because in the end, you are the one that needs the license, not them, being nice and polite always helps, as long as they know you’re giving your best effort, there is no guarantee, but it could help and even though I failed those times, it was still an overall interesting and kind of fun experience, but I can tell you once you do get your license you feel like you climbed Mt. Fuji. Loved the video good points, I was lucky, I didn’t have to do everything from the beginning, just the drivers course, but I had to do exactly like you were saying, every move you have to emphasize and over-exaggerate it, I can’t stress that enough, if the instructors don’t see you do that, they can fail you just for not doing that, beware of that. Again, very informative and nice video👍🏾
Yea I watched this video many times and didn't pass last month, here in Okinawa. I don't speak much Japanese which all the course introduction was only done in Japanese. I understand I'm in another country though. Will see how I do tomorrow. I also believe they just want money, it is a shame.
Thank you for this video. I managed to pass the test in my first attempt due to such videos. When you have all the rules clear in mind you can stay calm and confident during the test and pass it.
One tip i would like to share which can be helpful: before the test, once you are assigned the course, try to memorize the same so that during the test you know when is the next turn coming up. This helps a lot. And even if you forget any of the upcoming turns, the proctor guides you anyway.
So before the test starts you’re given the opportunity to review what will be the expected course with which route to take?
Okay, Feb 15th 2023, I just took the driving test after watching this video.
I took it in Nagoya (the hardest in Japan) I had course B.
We were 12, only 1 got it. Someone I talked to took it 6 times.
When I was done driving they said:
I was to slow.
I put my turn signal too late, had to be 30m before turning
I checked everywhere too much (usually I don't but this video recommended it)
I need to stay on the left more instead of the middle like every other countries in the world do.
I got 50/100 need 70 to pass.
Taking it next month.
They were two in my car.
Good luck to all.
Omg! Going to take it in Hirabari this Friday, I'm nervous since I know they are pretty stricted and Nagoya courses are much complex. Any tips/recommendations?
1. When checking upon entering the car to start the test, always adjust your room mirror and seat position first before putting your seat belt on,
2. Five point check after you start before driving not before starting
3. Physical back check before leaving
4. When making right turn, go close as possible to diamond etc in the middle of intersection but don't drive on it
Thank you ❤
Ohayo! Thank you for teaching and giving a tips. I passed yesterday my Driving Test at Menkyo Center here in Shiga-ken without having practice in any driving school. I just watched your video, and finally I claimed my Gaimen Kirekae Driving License here in Japan. I am from the Philippines as Trainee Visa/ TITP here in Japan ❤. God bless Sir
Congratulations!!!
Be very careful on the first year :)
Ano ang mga kailangang documents sa pagkuha ng kirikae?
Bossing, kailangan ba kabisaduhin mga liko o sasabihin naman sayo?
Thanks to your video I was able to pass the test in my first attempt!
The tips you shared do help a lot. Do watch this video guys and get the extra help needed to pass the test.
Great tactics I passed my practical exam on my first try and followed Mellow in Japan tactics. thanks
I am taking my driving test the day after tomorrow. My friends have told me how tough the exam is. I feel more confident after watching this, thanks my friend.
@Pointless Rat Race I passed my exam on the 4th time, lol. Not only you need to mind all the small details, you also need luck. I think they won't let you pass because they want you to remember every detail that is required to drive safely in Japan. Even Hamilton won't pass the exam on the first time. Remember all the details mentioned in the video, it does help a lot. Good luck.
Thank you brother hopefully i get this done with with your help much appreciated and love the Dreamcast sweater im a Big DC fan myself
Watched your video yesterday and passed my test in the 1st attempt today. Thanks for posting such a useful video that's spot on with what's needed to crack it.
I’m glad it was helpful, congratulations!!!
Hey buddy, did you take the test at samezu(鮫洲運転免許試験場)? For I will attend the test there on 2.14(tomorrow). It is my first try and I have not made any exercises yet, just searching info on the internet and trying to exercise inside my mind, LOL. The reason that stopped me from doing practical exercises is the high cost, LOL. But I still wish I can pass it, LOL.
Mine was at Fuchu.
Just memorize the things to do and program yourself to do them all in sequence. All the best.
@@vincentzou8750 i got mine in Matsuyama ( Shikoku) you should get at least 2-3 hours of practice before doing the test( to get used to the car and especially if you never drove on the left side) Good luck today, i hope you pass :)
@@stst8887 Fuchu is too far from Tokyo center. I'm just wandering about it would be a little too tight to do 5-point check while changing lanes. From my practical experience, I just do one mirror check for changing lanes
日本人もお手本にしたい素晴らしい動画!
Really good tips! I passed today, thanks a lot!
Rory Mcshane congratulations!!! Now the first year be very careful, even a parking ticket can take it away...Just follow the rules, you’ll be ok, on the narrow roads never go over 10km/h over and the highways just keep under 20km/h over...doing that for 5 years no problems... thanks for watching... Peace

thanks for the info. Had 20 taking the test and I was one of two people that passed today. On my first time too.
Hello.. do you have to memorize the turns? Will the assessor guide you which way to go?
no. They will tell you where to go. But walk the course a few times before they start so you have an idea what is around.
@@pearcem thanks so much! I feel relieved now. I’ve been worrying about that.
ARIGATO!
Today i pass the driving exam here in Hokkaido and thanks for the advice and this video. It helps a lot for taking the driving test examination. Godspeed!
Glad it helped!
Wish I had this video 20 years ago. Its important to know the "secret handshaking" procedure and follow it precisely in order to pass the test. If you haven't watched this video or you have not gone to their training schools you have to pay big $$$ to get trained on how to pass the test you will fail.
After I failed my first practical exam I asked the instructor what I had done wrong. He refused to say. I said, if you are unwilling to tell someone what they did wrong how can you expect them to improve and be safe drivers on the road?
I had failed the test after driving myself 3 hours down a mountain road ( that most Japanese would be terrified to drive down ) from where I lived using an old stick shift car the nearest testing center.
The major difference from success and failure is knowing what they expect of you on the test. The driving test isn't about logical and practical driving. Its about following a precise script and following it to a T, only someone has to tell you what the script is in advance if you have any hopes of passing.
Japan is also full of unwritten rules of behavior in society which is learned throughout life. One has to have savvy enough social skills to be able to find out what they rules are to avoid the BATSU.
Now I live in a country that if I needed a Japanese license I could just transfer mine over.
That’s what i tell people, i was a truck driver/Limo Driver in the States and a Taxi driver in Brazil before coming to Japan ( over 10 years professional driving experience) and i Still took lesson on how to do the test, it doesn’t matter how much you know, you must do the test the WAY THEY Want It! So in this video I’m trying to show just that… Thanks for watching and leaving your comment :) Peace
@@MellowInJapan Very much appreciate you taking the time to make the instructional video. I think you will save many people headaches and years of emotional torment. I came across your video of a friend of mine who is going to take the test. They haven't taken the test yet but wishing them success. At least I know they've come to the right place.
Thank you very much.i am going to driving center now to file the necessary documents.i hope and pray that i pass the test, because i didn’t drive for 10 years now.but your toturial is very precise
Best of luck! I hope you pass :)
Ask if they have classes at the license center, some have it, it’s about 8-10,000¥ an hour, I highly advise to take at least 2-3 classes before doing it, i did 3, and pass on my first, it’s basically the same i teach in this video, but you do inside the place, where you do the test…it doesn’t matter how long you drive, they care about the Kakuni ( checking)
@@MellowInJapan thank you very much.appreciated

im used to driving on the right and seeing you driving on the left freaked me out. Like i know its on the left but imagined what i would do in those situation cus i have to think backwards. I think i might even go to the right side when turning out of habbit
Me too, took 3 months to get used, now i drive big trucks too :)

im taking the exam in Osaka in a few weeks. Thank you for this!!!
How did it go? I live in Osaka too and I'm about to do the same thing.
Orgulho de ser brasileiro
Are you not supposed to check your blind zone when driving away for bicycles?
thanks for this video 😊
it's so helpful video thank you for this video👍
Is the test that short?
No parallel parking between two cars?
Yes it’s short, no parallel park if is automatic transmission, parallel parking only when getting a manual transmission license…
Interesting video. I expected it to be a little more difficult. My driver's test when I was 17 was a little more stuff like parallel parking and 3-point turns. With the parallel parking you had to be close to the curb as well. My DMV tester was notoriously strict so I guess I developed good skills because I still do all of this stuff today including signaling from a stop. Lol.
It is the same in belguim exceptions we drive to the right
Thank you very much brother
Boa tarde. Sou inscrito no seu canal e achei interessante ,bela explicação e nos detalhes isso ajudaria para os brasileiros a tirarem a carteira se fosse também na língua portuguesa. Fica uma dica. Um feliz ano novo e um abraço

My driving school is a little intense and they keep insisting I keep my thumbs on the front of the steering wheel (not inside like yours are). Never knew this was a thing when I got my license in Canada!
I just passed on the Bus road test on my first try here in Japan, not easy but i made it happen :) now the hard part, the writing test is 100% in Japanese and must get 90% correct… even Japanese people do 5-10 times…

Okay FYI he’s partly right and wrong. When you turn the blinker on, check the back mirror first.
And I guess he forgot the hazard button?
@@tasmaniandevil7502 During the whole process of road testing, there is no point required to turn the hazard on.
Excellent❤
i am currently studying and worried about the written test. I am not exactly sure how I should study for it. For driving I have heard everyone say check a lot, double, even triple check. Should I stop on the railroad spot if there are cars behind me?
If you are getting your license from Zero, the driving School has written tests simulations, very helpful, if you are just changing your license to a Japanese license is very easy only 10 questions on the test, available in many languages, just be careful with 2 questions, 1 is about drinking and driving, the answer is Zero, no drinking alcohol at all if you are driving, and another question about the turning if you are using a 50cc moped, it’s a rule only used in Japan, all other questions are similar to rules of other countries, mostly common sense, about the Rail road tracks, In Japan you MUST stop! Roll down your window, look and point twice on both directions, then Go, just i did on the video, don’t worry about people behind you, everyone will do the same in Japan. Good luck :)😊
@@MellowInJapan Thank you! I have to start all over as I let my license expire in US. I am currently reading through the English book they let you have "Rules Of The Road" and taking practice tests online. After I take them I read the book again and try to find the answers and highlight or underline based on the questions. So far the Karimen I got a 39/50 and a 44/50 on two different versions. The 39 I made simple mistakes by getting tricked where they added in a word that made it False instead of True. I am going to keep reviewing this way for another month and then try to get the map of the driving course. If I do that and review I should pass the Karimen with your video advice as well. Then I can focus on the Honmen.
thank you for the lesson I am studying to get my KARI-MEN , driver's permit , any advice?
hoping to pass my exam on first try.kakunin, yoseru and my change lane always failed me.
Tomorrow is the day,😮💨
Good luck :)
Got my international driver's license for Japan, without any japanese text... I've also never driven on the wrong side of the road before so it'll be interesting.
Great video. Thank you for making this. I do have one question I hope you can help.
2:10 Can you please explain why you should keep to the left (to avoid motorcycles and stuff)? I have two reason for asking.
1) I ride a bicycle on the cycling path (just markings on the left side of the road) and cars are always passing me, moving to the left, on top of the cycling path, and then stopping. This prevents me from riding up to the line of the traffic light. I don't know whether or not they are supposed to stop on top of the cycling path.
2) I am planning on getting my license in Japan. I need to know from both perspectives, cyclist and driver, whether or not I am supposed to ride on and stop on top of the cycling path.
Basicly you must keep on left to avoid a bike on your blind side, one vehicle must be behind, not on the side, if they ride in the side and you turn, it’s dangerous…
@@MellowInJapan Got it! Thank you for the explanation.
Good job!
Eu imagino que você seja brasileiro certo? Excelente vídeo!
Which type of car we will get, manual or automatic?for private car.
There’s 2 kinds if licenses in Japan, automatic and Manual… 2 different tests, one for manual one for automatic..
Awesome video! Did you have to do any parking like parallel parking and the like?
Two years ago I started studying for my test and watched your video for the first time ! Thanks to your advice, and these other helpful Japanese videos I was able to pass on my first try! ruclips.net/video/AzoP3FbmGpQ/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/lUJceI3IrXo/видео.html
It's also important to note that the S turn, crank turn, and final stop can be tricky if you don't actually go to a training center and practice them, or do a walk through of what to expect at the driving center before taking the test ! Thank you very much Mellow!! And good luck to everybody else trying to pass it on the first attempt!
Thanks sir.
Thank you very much
Thanks, today I have the exam
obrigado pelas dicas, passei!
Congratulations!!!
This is a good video but one thing it doesn't (can't) overcome is when you have a driving proctor who pre-determines he will fail you. I had two hints that was going to happen on my first attempt. The first hint was when the admin person from the "Examinations" window brought me a form to "correct". I had placed "X" marks in the boxes, he wanted check marks. I had to re-do the form and when I handed it to him, he said "Next time you can do it this way". Next time?? The second hint was as I was beginning the skill test and the proctor (police officer) made a comment about driving like an American, I pretty much figured at that point I would be failed. And I was.
At every center they want Checks not "Xs" i had to redo my form twice as well for this reason and because i signed in cursive instead of putting block letters. this is just the kind of procedural stuff that is very important in japan but seems silly to us.
Thank you for this tips I am going to take the written test for tomm
Any tips or suggestions on reverse parking test?
Thank you sir how about the test exam sir can I know what is the all question for my preparation
Here are a couple of sites that offer free written-test practice questions:

GOD Bless you Mellow
during a trafiic signal, you switch on the blinkers but i need to know that whether you switched on both the blinkers or just the right side one as in the video, i could only see the right side blinker on, left side blinker is not visible.
The rule in Japan is to use your blinkers about 30 meters before turning, right or left as needed…
If you need to stop and there’s no place to park, you can also use your hazard lights…
Yr are a good teacher bt I'm allowed to drive in Japan with a ugandan driving license
Get inside
Lock the door
Seat position
Room mirror
And seat belt
Sushil...
You forgot the first check: you need to check underneath the car in case you ran someone over getting to the test centre and the body could still be trapped there!
The "Parallel parking test" and the "Ramp test" isn't required in Japan to get the drivers licence? Tks in advance?
no parallel parking if you get a license for automatic cars, only if you get a manual transmission or truck license
You should use your back side lights I watched your videos and made a Mistakes during my test. Becuase you dont use back side lights for turning on the rightside or left side.
Please mention this important points in your Next Videos.
Thanks
Man, with due respect, you look like the drummer of System of a Down. btw, great video, I am going to my test next Friday.
