Exactly! Something I forgot to mention is that it’s one of those books that is a complete story within itself even though the author plans to write more in the series. I feel it’s hard for writers to accomplish such a feat!
I know you don't have a ton of followers yet so I just want to say that I absolutely love your videos and to keep doing them. I swear, as soon as I get a notification that you uploaded I try to watch the video ASAP.
Hmm, you seem a little confused about this book though you might feel clear-headed about it. I could be wrong, but that's how it comes across to me. I find that quite interesting. To me, one of the best qualities of Dreams of the Dying is that it is open about its politics but is mature enough to self-doubt. It does two things, it tells and shows, but it does it in a way that is not "same on same". I think challenging one's own beliefs is brave. More people should do that. Anyways, thank you for your review! This book deserves attention.
Thank you for watching! It’s an amazing book and is still one of my favorites of the year. I am curious though. Where do I seem confused? I would love to hear your thoughts.
@@NICKREADSFANTASY Hi Nick, maybe "confused" is not the best word, but I found it intriguing for example how you tried to compare Lietzau and Goodkind. If I understood it right you wanted to stay apolitical and it is kind of impossible with this book. This is really not here nor there. I think you did a good and honest job with your review. I will subscribe.
@@vhiljamurcrane Thank you for clarifying! I know its supposed to be taboo to speak Goodkinds name lol but I thought it was a good comparison. Goodkind and Lietzau both used a ton of exposition and social commentary to "rant" about political ideologies. For me, it's not even about wanting a book that is apolitical (I can enjoy books that I don't agree with politically, and they are important to the genre and for readers to read). Its more about how they both go on to show, and not only tell, but before they show, they tell a TON. To the point I describe both as "ranting". I think the greatest writers can show without telling. WAAAAAYYYY harder for books like Faith of the Fallen and Dreams of the Dying, but it was probably possible. With all that being said, I think both books are great, but I thought Lietzau did a much better job with his writing than Goodkind did with his. (If I remember correctly lol its been years!) Thanks for subscribing! I love talking about books I love :)
@@NICKREADSFANTASY Sorry it took so long to answer. Okay, I didn't know Goodkind was some sort of a taboo. I just don't regard him highly as a writer. I think Nicolas writes better in a foreign language than Terry in his mother tongue. Then again English is not my first language. Maybe I should give Terry another chance, but why bother. There are so many other more interesting writers out there. Oh, almost forgot, I don't categorize telling as bad / showing as good. I understand very well why nearly every writing teacher says "show, don't tell", but there simply are no absolutes in arts.
Hopefully it was for some of the inappropriate and explicit nature of the book and not because of what I said about the exposition. It is a five star book for me after all, I just think it’s a book that should not be read for everyone. It was a really interesting read.
Fantastic review! Glad to see this book get more coverage. I loved it, but I agree it's not for everyone.

@@NICKREADSFANTASY True! It could be a standalone title. 🙂
The only channel were I get new books on my TBR. Keep doing your thing bro!

@@NICKREADSFANTASY you're very welcome! Keep up the good work!

Never has a review so thoroughly convinced me NOT to read a book! Yegads.

@@NICKREADSFANTASY No, nothing against you. Everything you said was helpful. It's just not for me.
