Wow, Reto! I knew you'd be good at this, but I've never seen someone clear the first floor on their first try. Absolutely unreal. Thank you so much for playing it! What a dream. And so hilarious that I can't even tell if you liked it haha. I hugely appreciate the constructive criticisms peppered throughout the video. I'll be looking to tweak some things in a future update. :) The game was made over 6ish weeks so it has some shortcomings I'm already excited to improve. One thing I'd definitely like to communicate better to the player is that more powerups are added to the pool when certain combinations are taken. There's not currently any way to know that-a clear mistake on my part, I feel. Take Rikaboom and Very Parry in the same run, for example, and "Stand Back" will then be findable later in that run. Some things to discover! I might dial back the frilled-neck lizards a touch too since they eat everyone alive. :P The difficulty actually isn't rage bait, but I don't blame you for thinking that haha. It just stems from my displeasure with the common roguelite scenario where the 1st floor becomes a boring obligation after not too long, and the run doesn't feel like it's really rolling until you're a few bosses in. I wanted the 1st floor in this smaller, stripped-down game to always feel dangerous and exciting. Might not have been the right call, but that was the experiment. We're always learning! Anyway, thanks again for playing my weird little game. Was a blast to see. Also why is your thumbnail better than my Steam library banner art? How dare you
Hey ignore this if you're not looking for feedback/design advice, but when designing difficulty, there's 2 different kinds of difficulty you have to consider: how challenging something is, and how unforgiving something is. To use TBoI as an example, "???" is an unforgiving character, because once you lose HP it's harder to replenish it and that damage sticks with you for a long time. The Lost on the other hand is a challenging character, but it is also extremely forgiving, in that you regain your hp to full each room. Perhaps having a small pool of hp but making it easier to replenish it might help you succeed in your goal of making the first floor dangerous and exciting! You could either do this by implementing a max hp and making helms easier to find, or you could even harder on that and make it so that clearing each room replenishes your HP to 3 if you have less than that. Maybe even to 2? Best of luck!
Fun fact: If you want the Dark souls version of the first boss, visit Australia, Cassowaries are know to attack humans and Australia also had a war on Emus.
First look at the game reminds me of Shamus (C64 and PC game from 1986, yeah, I'm old). But in Shamus, it also a labyrinth and there are some inside walls and any wall touching is deadly and there is a de-facto time limit to each room...
Thanks for playing! It's my friends first game on steam and I am super enjoying people's reactions to it. I can't believe you beat cassowary on the first run. It took me like 3 hours XD
Nope. This one's not for me lol I can possibly deal with one or the other, dodging bullet hell or parrying a boomeraxe... but not both at the same time. Makes me feel like I have the reaction time of a sloth. You're an animal, Reto
Nice Video!! Anyways, have you tried mobile roguelike games? I have this game called 'Soul Knight' that I've been playing and is easily the best one on mobile. Imo it is very underrated despite being incredibly fun to play, I'd love to see it get featured in this channel.
Oof, looks like a hard game. Hopefully it didn't leave Rodney scarred but I got a feeling we won't see this game again. I can't blame Hamilton though some games can be too hard for their own good.
Hey retro when i open this video i got ad of some rougelite'. Name is summum aeterna, it looks different and they are claiming this game is ultimate rougelite. It looks very cool. I searched with your name immediatly but you didnt cover on lets try so far. Keep the good work. Much loves, bye.

Remove screen vibration, it's very dizzy
@@4chain807 I can make it a toggleable option for you
When Retromation says a game is his HARDEST, you should really start to worry.
I'd love to see more of this, considering there's NO chance that I'd be able to play it myself.
Fun fact: If you want the Dark souls version of the first boss, visit Australia, Cassowaries are know to attack humans and Australia also had a war on Emus.
And we lost.
you gotta press "end run" when there's three or more lizard guys in the room
When Tyler starts joker laughing we can know it’s a hard game
my name isn't tyler lol
olexa != retro lol
Yeah those puzzle games really get him
@@Retromation Ok Steve. /s
@@Retromation So true, it's a shame I'm a dummy lmao
You did so well it's unreal! Maybe because you had a lot of bullet hell practice but it was mesmerizing to watch you play!

This must be the dark souls of rogue likes !
This game looks Mad hard fr, kudos to you Reto for giving it a go!
You should try out a land Goo's crazy. Thats hard as hell. ❤😂

This game could be titled, "Hoisted by your own petard."
saw 1 minute, next thing i knew i was at the steam checkout screen
I reckon the damage from helmets upgrade should say something along the lines of "damage from picking up helmets" to be less misleading.
100% right. Will do!
Icestralia, I love it :D What an interesting idea overall!
Never heard so much nervous laughter out of a person before, love it, lol.
loved this video!
Ok...this game looks like you could tear your hair out😂😂😂

@@takaneru6001 Yeah I was gonna say Soul Knight has been like one of the only recommended mobile games for ages when it comes to actual games lol
I love soul Knight! But the latest update made me so confused idk what's going on with it anymore
I would watch so many videos in a series about reto vs stupid bird.
The fact that Gaming God Reto McGee called this game difficult means us mere mortals have no hope
wow, a game even Retromation finds hard. It would be near impossible for me
Oof, looks like a hard game. Hopefully it didn't leave Rodney scarred but I got a feeling we won't see this game again. I can't blame Hamilton though some games can be too hard for their own good.
Just use your second brain to focus on parrying while the first brain does everything else. Simple really.
So what you're saying is this is in fact a co-op game >:P
It's hard for me to keep tabs on everything and I'm not even playing. Reto is absurdly good at gaming
"Hey what if nuclear throne but you only have a disc launcher. Oh and it homes in on both the enemy AND you."
Ok Boomeraxe
Ok Boomeraxe
The bird is a cassowary it looks like. Aka the tank like burds that win againts heavily armored humans with assault weapons lol. It should be scary😂
Man I’m way too early someone save my seat. I’ll be back in an hour

20:35 man unlocked ui 😮
I want more of this game
I don't have enough mental processing power to multitask like this game needs xD
I would play the hell out of this on mobile
My cousin Throckmorton could beat it for sure. I on the other hand would be grinded into mist
Wow. I don't think i could beat the first floor
if you enjoyed the challange id like an other video or two of this, though more then that will probably get repetitive
Flashbacks of "I wanna be the guy"
Makes me wonder why Retro didn’t scroll through the buffs as if it wasn’t numbered.
I did. it doesn't do anything. that is a meta progression unlock, it showed multiple times in the video
Looks and sounds similar to tiny rogues, thought it was the same devs at first
I read boomer in the title, thought this was a game for me....nope!
