I read this comment right when I started the episode and it made me feel better knowing it has a happy ending.
This video right here is why I'm moving back to my Mom's house to take care of her in her last years. She only recently began showing signs of aging and I promisednher I would do whatever I could to keep her out of a SNF. It's gonna be hard financially, but worth every moment of her staying, and ultimately pass away, in her own home.
Thank you for caring for your mom some of us have not been so lucky to have a wonderful daughter/son ❤️

This is why we took my grandma from the home she was in, and when we got her she had bruises on her arms and sides. She was old and senile but she told us stories of abuse and neglect while she was in that home. We spoiled her until her last day. I’ll never go to a home when I get old.

It should be illegal for nursing home owners to hire attorneys to threaten people who post negative reviews and genuine concerns online about negligent and abusive practices in nursing homes.
These same attorneys force the removal of negative reviews posted online to make the reputation of the nursing home look like it's a good facility where people can place their loved ones.

I thought the same, I am not one for introducing racism into evyery situation.. but what's the change of him only killing white people? If he went around randomly you would at least think he wouldve attacled people of other races, the population fo Texas is 40% white, so it is statistically really weird for him to have only 27 white victims.
We all know that if it was the other way around, racism would definitely a talking point, not that I would blame it. But why is it not questioned more in this case?

As a former cna I was shocked as to how evil nurses are to their elderly patients. I would go home crying after every shift and watched nothing change after dozens of complaints were made against them.

I am so sorry that you had to go through this, and see vulnerable people continue to be abused.
My father was in a home, and though I did my best to be there several times a week, at different times, and made friends with his main caretakers, he was still beaten so severely that he was literally peeing blood, and another time, I found knuckle bruises up and down his right, upper leg.
It is beyond terrifying to me that my dear mother, now 93, has just been put in a nursing home, losing everything she ever owned, and I can't be there for her because I can't get to her. 😢
Im a parole officer and it's horrific how many of my worst clients work in home care / senior care. Its like %30 of my case load.

This story is unbelievably sad and horrendous. The man is pure evil! I’m so glad that the one lady survived. I can’t believe police weren’t suspicious when jewellery was missing even though they were elderly deaths. I’m glad they caught him.

I am severely handicapped. This scares me so much. I may have to go into a home if my husband dies before me as I cannot completely take care of myself.

Op are your children able to have you a granny flat ??? If not hire yourself a nurse , govt do have services too that provide a driver to take seniors shopping & Doctors appointments . Tho not all senior homes have killers most I’ve been in have wonderful staff with genuine care .
If you can have an agreement to have your own security camera in your room . Or get your grand kids to set up a nannie cam.

Some people make an advance directive telling medics DNR especially if they think they might develop dementia etc and loose the ability to legally consent to being kept on machines or being placed in a nursing home when there is no next of kin.
Even in the case of a heart attack, someone can develop severe brain damage and cognitive defects if breathing isn't restored quick enough.
Alot of people consider what they'd prefer beforehand so they sort all their business out in advance instead of leaving it up to the government to decide for you.

This is so sad but so true. My mother was in an elderly home in Dallas as well and we would visited her everyday, I wish I would’ve recorded what we heard but they treat the elderly there so awful. I tried complaining about it and they all brushed it off. Even the hidden yelp complaints from the company had many people saying the same. I hope everyone is able to take care of their parents and grandparents they don’t deserve that

My friend is an RN in a large hospital. She called me recently telling me that the Nursing Agency that supplied Health Care Aides to assist with patient care had been selling their badges to people. These unqualified people were in the hospital with access to vulnerable patients, near medication rooms, near medical equipment and were looking at Confidential patient Charts/Medical Information. She reported the incident to her Supervisor who refused to get the police involved.

I was warned by many friends to never leave anything of value with your loved one in senior community home. That just makes them vulnerable to dishonest and horrible people. Same for in home care. Remove valuables in home and transfer to safe deposit box. I hear all the horror stories.😮

This is why I’m in home care taker for my dad. He’s only in his 60s but I will be his caretaker till day he dies.I won’t put him in facility. I can’t, plus he’s retired police officer and heard these horror stories all time. He has told me. So that has always stuck in my mind. This is devestating. Praying for the victims family. 😢❤
Please note that one victim, Carolyn MacPhee, was murdered in her HOME by Billy Chemirmir, whom the family had hired through a Home Healthcare agency to care for their Dad. After his passing, Chemirmir knew their Mom was alone and came back and murdered her. Be sure a background check has been done on the person or persons caring for your parent if you use in-home healthcare. I’m happy that you are able to be your Dad’s caretaker and hope that you always have the ability to meet his needs in-home as he ages. That would be ideal!

I know that people with alzheimers are a different story but my brother and I along with my kids, said no way to putting my parents into any kind of home. We took care of my dad at home till he passed and hospice aided us. We will do the same with mom.

Be kind…sometimes as humans we don’t know what to say in moments like this( I did hospice for most of my life, assisting babies to the elderly). The daughter is speaking the bigger truth we have as believers and sometimes in situations like this that’s all we have to fall back on. GOD IS BIGGER THAN THE SITUATION

Not a nursing home. Independent Living, which is a community for 55+. Our Mom’s didn’t need to be “taken care of”. They chose these places for this next season of life to be with their friends and for the lifestyle it provided. My Mom was welcome to live with me when she was ready or it was necessary. Chemirmir prevented her from getting to make that choice. The point is, Independent Living often under delivers on their security measures and that needs to change!

He was not an employee at my mother’s place. He was gaining access and if questioned said he was looking for leaks

We have three boys and nine girls in our family, when our mother was put in a nursing home, Four of us would go and take your mom at the nursing home every day and at night the youngest sister would go and make sure that she had clean pajamas and she was wiped clean and had a good diaper on until the next morning when we would arrive, if we seen any kind of abuse, we would report it.

I will say that THANK GOD my late mother & father & my stepmom & stepbrother were never murdered!! They all died from cancer but at least they died the way it was supposed to be(somewhat) My mother Lois Ann Routhier died from cervical cancer in 1984(10-28-1934-5-6-1984) My father Phillip Anthony Routhier died from bladder cancer in 2001(9-17-1924-8-6-2001) My stepmom Marie F.Routhier died from lung cancer and respiratory failure also in 2001(6-14-1913-3-24-2001) & My stepbrother Eugene Blaine Montz Jr.AKA GENE/GINO died from pancreatic cancer in 1997(4-25-1939-3-25-1997).

FYI. Many companies that hire out for caretakers do not do background checks or drugs. It's a low paid job and they can't find people to work

It's so heartbreaking...
and very wicked. Those elderly ladies, so loved by their families, were horribly murdered.
My grandparents thankfully died of old age. They also lived in a similar facility. However, it was the design of the apartment that meant it was easier to rob, but it prevented an assault.
A man who'd wangled his way in had opened the apartment door (yes, my grandparents should have locked it but felt they were safe). It was a small hallway with a closet on one side and on the other was their bedroom. In front of him was the door into the living room, which was closed. They'd been watching TV.
All he had to do was root through the closet and quickly search through the bedroom to find what he wanted and get out. My poor grandparents only found out when they got ready for bed.

I see a victim pattern here and I'm not talking about age.
I have the utmost respect for families who don't dump their parents into nursing homes when it is suppose to be the kid's having them live with them, unless they don't have any family. You make a way. They didn't dump you as babies and raised you but you can't take the time to do the same?! It's a sad societal norm and these families don't look broke. They could have made room for their moms if they really cared and honored them!

My dad died a long time ago and I still wonder to this day if his wife killed him by n ot taking care of him from when he would be hospitalized I still think she might have had something to do with it becuase she use to keep me from being able to talk to him and she would not forward mail from me to him and then transfered alot of his stuff into her name 15:33

NOT a nursing home. Independent Living is like an apartment complex for 55+. VERY DIFFERENT than a nursing home and my Mom, a victim, CHOSE to live there though we asked her to live with us. She loved it there and was thriving

Very sad and disturbing to say the least. As well as a wake up call to the fact that old folks homes are not the best place for our elders. Only as an adult am I realizing how separated we live from our loved ones compared to our ancestors who probably lived in tight communities that took care of each other especially their elders.
Honestly though this is why the west should have never started putting our parents and loved ones in assisted living homes. It is our job to care for and protect them.
