I've been following you for just about a week, since RUclips suggested your car tour video to me, and I am entirely captivated. Since then, I've subscribed, watched all of your videos, and waited impatiently for each new one that has come out. I hope to have a similar lifestyle in a couple years when I retire* and I'm loving everything about your videos: part educational, part travel/adventure, part inspirational, part vlog, and filled with resilience and good humor from start to finish. I'm excited to see where your journey leads you. Thank you for sharing it so beautifully with us. *Side note: To that end, I actually find these talky kinds of videos just as interesting as the others. I LOVE learning about your processes and strategies! Please don't stop doing this part too!
Hey! I have had the same experience. I stumbled upon this lovely lady's videos and will live vicariously through her until I retire in 2 years. I have owned my suv for 14 years, so I will have minimal expenses when I live in it. Thing is... I don't have any retirement savings so I will be living off of a small pension. Probably about $500 a month. But! I am SO willing to get to those sacrifices knowing I won't have to work anymore.
How are the travels going for you guys I’m only 23 and my ignorant self is wondering why you want to retire before going for it you don’t have to travel to live this way I’ve done it for awhile in the same city(Nashville)
I found your channel because I looked up traveling long term specifically in a Toyota Corolla. I can't afford a van so I thought I was stuck and unable to get out on the road. You have shown me otherwise. I am now putting together some gear and planning my first trip beginning this autumn. Thank you!
I literally wrote down "research money stuff for future" as part of my weekly to do list.... Thanks for kick-starting this research point :) i appreciate your openness :)
Hi Angie, I hope this message finds you well! I’m watching from the Philippines, which is quite a distance from you. I just wanted to let you know that you’re a genuinely good and kind person. Your positive energy really stands out and it means a lot, even from so far away. Take care and keep being amazing!
Love you channel and seeing how much you’ve relaxed since your first couple of videos. You also have a wicked sense of humor that I thoroughly enjoy. I wish I had thought of doing this when I was your age. Congratulation on being brave enough to follow your dreams and thank you for allowing me to come along.
Fun exercise: Figure your car's running costs per mile! Purchase price divided by how many miles you can reasonably expect till it's dead gives depreciation (that gen Corolla is probably good for 250-300k), plus tires (guessing 2 or 3 cents?), plus typical maintenance and major repairs amortized over the life of the car (oil changes every 3-5k, filters every 20k, timing belts every 80k, etc.), plus gas. I'd guess you're looking at 20-30 cents per mile, give or take? All relative to what you wanna do, but it's a handy number to know for rationalizing impulsive driving decisions! BTW- Found your channel this week, it's awesome! So much good travel footage (and commentary). It's gained over 1K new subs in that time, and I notice all the most-viewed videos (5 figures vs. 3 or 4) are *about* car life, not what you're actually seeing, lol. God keep you!
Thank you for sharing your journey. I'm a single female with a 2015 Toyota Corolla in an apt and main goal is to get a tiny home, but before that the "car life/van life" has always intrigued me. I have no one that understands this logic. How do you/did you, if ever, deal with the "fear" of being out in the open by yourself?
Your NE accent is adorable - west coaster here so it's a bit jarring in a good way! It's great to see someone from the other side of the country explore the west as I feel we can get a bit jaded out here :/. As much as I love the idea of van life sometimes, living in a bike-able/walk-able city with a lot of conveniences is important to me - plus as someone who is pretty tall, my choice of vehicle feels pretty limited as I can't imagine sleeping in a cramped sedan. I'd love to bike tour the country but having the shelter of your car actually gives you a lot more options in terms of taking your time and amenities. I'm not used to paying for a car, so that's a big hurdle if I ever have to jump it! Thanks for making these types of videos, I personally find the meta/logistics videos more interesting than the destinations so I am curious to know if you have side hustle work (or if RUclips is a part of that) while you travel, or if this is pretty much out of pocket.
I can't imagine being a younger female and having the monthly issue being on the road. That would be so frustrating. I now am cycle free👍 but almost twice as old as well 😵💫
I just stumbled onto your channel. I lived out west for 49 years so I know what your loving about it. You remind me of my daughter in law..charming! Love your video. Keep enjoying your adventure! 👍
@@werbnaright5012 it’s just the mileage living in your car and exploring the Very large Country. I’d guess she will probably drive around 30k miles a year changing oil 6 times. Car camping comfortably is very weather dependent and travel is cheap due to the high mpg. Angie also seems pretty curious with a I want to see and do new things energy that doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon.
Can you share info about your income? Are you working remotely while on the road or are you living off savings? If you are living off savings, are you planning on doing something to earn income? If you are working remotely, can you share your work situation? One of the biggest barrier to people thinking of living on the road is not if they willing to sacrifice the comfort of having a house but rather if they can afford to do so long term.
that's so true. I would love to also travel in my car, but feel like that it would be hard to find a job later on if I have a long gap in my employment history.
In an earlier video she mentioned she saved up money and also sold all her stuff to fund this life. Don’t know how long that will last or if she’s doing other work in the meantime.
We vanlifed from Canada down to Baja this winter and it was amazing. Just a suggestion. Also, getting work done on the car and maybe even on the teeth is so much more affordable 💜
Is it normal for car insurance to cost so much in the US? $142 (approx £110) a month sounds like a lot ($1704 a year, approx £1328 😮 ). I thought we were paying a lot at £430 (approx $550) a _year_ . Also, idk about renters insurance or what that ientails. But in the UK I have "contents insurance" which covers everything in my flat and any legal fees I might have if someone sues me for example. I bumped mine up higher than it needed to be in order to cover some valuables and I pay just £19 a month (approx $24), which surprisingly went down from last years. So $158 a month is also pretty shocking. Anyway, don't forget that you were paying the car insurance while living in your apartment, so it's an expense you would have had anyway rather than it being a replacement for your renter's insurance. So technically you should add the car i surance to your apartment tally too.
I am 66 and my children are grown and happy and busy. I am seriously considering making some serious changes and leaving my apartment and buying a van. I am thinking of going to quartzite Arizona by 2024. I am fairly healthy and dont want to work anymore and want some adventure! I also may visit my sisters too. Its really igniting my joy , where begore i was feeling quite stagnant and bored. I spent some years out west in my late 40s early 50s and love it out there.
I’m getting ready to live in my car. I’m ready. I’ve done it before for 4 months. I will not miss my $1400 rent! Cool video. I may do Planet Fitness too or shower at a local pool when it opens for $1. Senior discount!!
Great video it's definitely much cheaper then renting or paying a mortgage for a house of apartment. I spend about £800 a month Living in my van. But because it's an old van I put aside about £250 a month to cover maintenance. My last repair bill was nearly £2000 so you have to always be prepared for an expensive breakdown and also money for hotel accommodan if needed :)
So so much respect. I wish I had travelled and spent time like this when I was younger. I live in the UK England, so the thought of living your life over here does not appeal in the UK. I guess I was worried about driving abroad in the States, although years later with more experience of driving here, I felt confident enough to do a fly drive from Miami down to the keys. Listening to how much things cost, the only thing I was thinking was "I couldn't live without my washing machine and tumble dryer 😂". In England it's almost always wet and cold. In my apartment it was a priority. I used to use laundry mat places whilst living in London but they cost a fortune, ruined my expensive clothes for work and used so much time with having no Internet there. Yes I guess I could have bought books to read but that would add to heaviness of laundry. Also, if I left things and came back, I'd risk having them stolen. Much respect for following your heart, staying safe and streetwise and for your parents giving you the confidence and ability to follow your dreams and your heart. Such beautiful scenery reminds you we are such a small part of everything. Best wishes from across the pond England 🏴

It’s awesome what you do. I think it’s because I’m an owner of a 2015 Corolla and I had troubles but I definitely did not do it for travels since it was mostly for my employer back then. Definitely learned that buying additional vehicle was not the solution even through temporarily it worked but it came down to knowing when to give in to working around your environment. If I tried to sleep in my Corolla again out of pleasure, I would probably enjoy like your point of view. Very envious of this lifestyle. Keep up the good effort 😁
You had to pay car insurance when you were renting an Apt though right? So for the apt it would be apt + car insurance? Unless you used public transit and didn't have a car back in the day.
thank you for sharing!! that's helpful information to think about my own budget. And I like your sense of humor, as many people bellow! wish you all the best
How many miles now on your Corolla? You continue to inspire me, the more I see you do this, I want to also. Similar amount of income, and thought processes. Thanks for this.
I couldn't do a car, but I don't like the current victorian fixer upper. But that's because hubby only found work 3 hrs away, so we're trying to sell. We actually looked at a 1000 sq ft trailer today, but the lot rent, insurance, property tax, and "hOA" fee is HIGH together (college town). But we're looking into such options because we all want to be together, we have a cat and it's really hard to find a place around the area we want to move to where you can have a cat that you can let outside and put in a garden, so we'll be happy when we find a suitable one. Victorian's great and fun to restore and renovate but not when there's no work in town and family ends up getting separated. Half of us are in that area and the other half of us is here. NO GOOD. Rather go small and be together. THat's my thought.

great video, in regards to car ins., you would be paying that when you lived in apartment also so i would say you are saving even more from being in your car
I don't quite understand the comparison if you are not including the income side of the equation. I assume your new job/employment is fully remote and has the same income? I remember when I finished high school (1970's), my best friend and I quit our jobs and went on an month-long extended vacation traveling all across the western USA in a Toyota Celica (quite smaller than your Corolla) and camped (individual 1-person tents) all along the way. But it was clearly a vacation and not a life style. Anyway, enjoy your travels as they are indeed best when you are young.
I'm so glad I discovered your channel! I am also in my late twenties and I wish I would have the courage to do what you are doing now so I am living vicariously through your videos! ❤
I think you are doing awesome! 🎉 this such a beautiful season of your life when you are going out of your comfort zone to create new comfort zone with tools you’ve got! Sometimes Bible in your hand and Nature-that’s all you need to create the most important RELATIONSHIPS IN LIFE WITH YOUR CREATOR
Gas really is the killer. I was looking at doing a trip from the Bay area to Yellowstone and I was looking at close to 600 or dollars round trip or something. Not all that nice when I have no income lol.
Just curios. Having seen you in one of your previous videos being on your laptop, do you use your Mint service as a Hotspot for your laptop? I appreciate the time you put into making your videos. 💛✨️
you probably mentioned it somewhere but ---how do you make money ? Also , if your subscribers see a scam comment they should report it to you tube and it will be removed.
What about propane to your campstove? Or do you just eat peanut butter and celery a lot. . . I lived in a tent for 3 months. I ate a lot of peanut butter too. And cheese . . . melted on whole grain sprout bread. . . and instant chicken soup with fresh brocolli chopped in. It was almost vegetarian. Other produce I ate, too. I don't really remember that much.
I don't understand how you can drive so much and only have $30 a month in maintenance expenses unless you're not doing any of the recommended maintenance in your owner's manual, which will result in breakdowns and major costs.
Why not get a Camry or Avalon hybrid or the larger sized Prius if you are going to live in a Toyota and do a lot of driving? You can find those used for probably less than you paid for your Corolla which is not even a hybrid.
I have a 2018 Corolla. My car averages 30 miles per gallon, and I get 310 miles out of a full tank without using AC or heat. I don't think your 40 miles per gallon is accurate. How is Mint Mobile's internet speed on data? Is the internet on data fast enough to watch RUclips videos smoothly?
hello if you do that kind of like staying in the car how much is your income to do that and what about your work or job how to deal with it.what do you do for living?it seems that it is very hard when you have low income doing that.i just wanna try that too to save money😄 if ever soon hopefully
But how do you make money? Most people aren’t travelling full time because they have to go to a single location for work. It’s not so much about the comforts of a house.
It's probably a better comparison to estimate miles driven monthly in each situation and use that with your average mpg and the current gas price. Because like you said, what you spent back then was dependent on very volatile gas prices.
So no health insurance cost? No stable income job or sources of income? One would have to trade for their safety over this which might work for some and not so much for the others. Thanks for sharing.
One non cash expenditure that you have not accounted for is a faster depreciation on your car due to the excess miles you are putting on the car by traveling everyday. That asset will have less value and will someday need to be replaced. But agree you are saving $$$ overall but savings must be getting depleted without a nice revenue stream.. enjoy.
How do you make money on the road to pay for all the expenses ? Many. People that are living out in a car or van are not doing well financially. They are older and don’t have a job. I don’t know, how they can live a van life.

Agreed. Car depreciation and car replacement costs need to be added to the analysis. Cars are SO expensive to replace these days!

Anyway, enjoy your travels as they are indeed best when you are young.
It would be fun of you have a Q&A 😃
I will have to think about doing that someday soon! Thank you for the suggestion!
@@angieontour1 : Thanks for writing back to me 😃 Love to follow your youtube- channel ❤️
Great video and cost breakdown!
I'm so glad I discovered your channel! I am also in my late twenties and I wish I would have the courage to do what you are doing now so I am living vicariously through your videos! ❤
I hope one day you're able to take a trip! It is life changing.
I think you are doing awesome! 🎉 this such a beautiful season of your life when you are going out of your comfort zone to create new comfort zone with tools you’ve got!
Sometimes Bible in your hand and Nature-that’s all you need to create the most important RELATIONSHIPS IN LIFE WITH YOUR CREATOR
inspired! keep going :) btw what do you do for work aside from youtube while you travel?!
I love your sense of humor 🤣 😄
Gas really is the killer. I was looking at doing a trip from the Bay area to Yellowstone and I was looking at close to 600 or dollars round trip or something. Not all that nice when I have no income lol.
Just curios. Having seen you in one of your previous videos being on your laptop, do you use your Mint service as a Hotspot for your laptop? I appreciate the time you put into making your videos. 💛✨️
Yes! I am able to use the hotspot for my laptop! It is quite handy. Thank you!
Yes, it's incredible. you saving money for doing what you want, when I saving money with not doing what I want
you probably mentioned it somewhere but ---how do you make money ? Also , if your subscribers see a scam comment they should report it to you tube and it will be removed.
How has your income level changed? Office work vs. online employment & YT?
You are reallyyy cutest person alive ❤❤❤
The income difference matters too.
Great video thanks.
How do you keep making money while on the road ?
What about propane to your campstove? Or do you just eat peanut butter and celery a lot. . . I lived in a tent for 3 months. I ate a lot of peanut butter too. And cheese . . . melted on whole grain sprout bread. . . and instant chicken soup with fresh brocolli chopped in. It was almost vegetarian. Other produce I ate, too. I don't really remember that much.
In your apartment, you have a regular income. This need to be included as a plus.
I do the same thing with a regular income
Stay safe out there and remember to thank you car for putting up with you and everything you are putting it through😂
Every single day!! Especially as we go down dirt roads! My car is a trooper! Haha!!
Wow the camera quality looks better! What do you use to film your vids?
Is there a reason why you dont tint your windows?
I don't understand how you can drive so much and only have $30 a month in maintenance expenses unless you're not doing any of the recommended maintenance in your owner's manual, which will result in breakdowns and major costs.
Why not get a Camry or Avalon hybrid or the larger sized Prius if you are going to live in a Toyota and do a lot of driving? You can find those used for probably less than you paid for your Corolla which is not even a hybrid.
She’s got a van now so gas isn’t a big deal to her anymore ofc she’s making money off RUclips now
they do not make em like you anymore..;-; so wholesome..so adorbs
Gr8 info specially on the road laundry...internet(online bills like car insurance...car reg.) N ya California gas is usually @ $7 sumn a gal....😜
It is normally $7?? Oh my. I am sorry!!
@@angieontour1 yes in a town called bakersfield california it's pretty pricey here 😬😳
@@surfnburb89Bakersfield is legendary
Also Guesstimation is indeed a word :)
Inspiring adventures while saving on cost of living 🌟👍
hello if you do that kind of like staying in the car how much is your income to do that and what about your work or job how to deal with it.what do you do for living?it seems that it is very hard when you have low income doing that.i just wanna try that too to save money😄 if ever soon hopefully
You can do this and not travel but still work a job to save money and climb the financial ladder faster but she saved up for years to do this
What is your income method while traveling or did I miss that recently?
But how do you make money? Most people aren’t travelling full time because they have to go to a single location for work. It’s not so much about the comforts of a house.
You can do this and work just not travel as much or at all
As a non American, m’y question for you is do you have an income ? Do you have a job ? 😋 Nice video!
How, why? Wouldn't you want to have a renocated camper van, that way you'd be able to cook and have more headspace?
Love it
How are you supporting yourself on the road. Side jobs?
you are realy a funny and lovely person.👍
What about health insurance?
Curious. How do you get car insurance if you don't have a residence?
You have no friends or family ? Not tryna be rude but like she said it’s not for everybody think outside the box!
$158/mo for renters insurance seems very expensive to me. My last renters insurance was $40/mo
But agree you are saving $$$ overall but savings must be getting depleted without a nice revenue stream.. enjoy.
How about safety? Thats my main concern too
Been considering doing something similar, then I remembered health insurance costs without an employer 😢
Guess another consideration is car replacement cost ... just a thought.
I just received Ryan’s new Xmas card😂
How do you make money on the road to pay for all the expenses ? Many. People that are living out in a car or van are not doing well financially. They are older and don’t have a job. I don’t know, how they can live a van life.
Older people 65+ get social security benefits. Not a lot of $$$$, but it's not nothing. Some even get pensions.
Good job❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When using public wifi make sure to clear your browsers and passwords.... keep your $$$ safe
1200 for a two bedroom is not bad at all nowadays (im from/lived in LA and OC and live in MASS now).
