First rate science rather than second rate sci-fi. However, he believes in both!

Wow, very interesting that Martin Rees initially wanted to apply his mathematical skill to economics before going into astrology. Which is a shame as I really think his contributions would have changed the teachings in economics and finance considerably.

+gmshadowtraders I think you mean Astronomy. Astrology (rather like 'classical' economics) is a pseudo - scientific magical divination scheme founded upon faulty data. Thank goodness he decided to contribute something truly meaningful to human knowledge and choose NOT to be an economist.

Alasdair Church Fair enough. I could have used Astro Physics or Theoretical physics if it's that important. But the study of the economy is a study about the interaction of human beings. It's about our own universe for all practical purposes. And it desperately needs the talent to try to solve the multitude of problems plaguing us today.
