"Wheelslip" ! All locomotives, whether steam, diesel or electric & multiple units, have a propensity to slip when starting. It's all due to the laws of Physics. i.e. Metal wheels on a metal rail means a lot less resistance than a rubber tyre on tarmac. This being one of the disadvantages as well as a advantage of the railway over the road. For example a 44 tonne articulated lorry needs at least 750hp to operate efficiently with that load, but a 350hp Diesel shunter can move trains of a 1000 tonnes. And the "Duchess" seen here with roughly 2,300hp at its disposal can hack along a level mainline at 90mph with a 600tonne passenger train !!!!

True James but deft handling of the regulator can alleviate it. I still get bloody annoyed when I see wheel slip as it b@@gers up the tires and if serious valve gear. I once saw an idiot on North Yorkshire moors railway slipping the sir nigel Gresley just after she came back after lengthy workshop visit. The idiot was an older guy who was showing off to some female onlookers. I remarked to stationmaster if I had been the CME he wouldn't put his hand on anything else. This banal idiot couldn't even be bothered to answer my technical questions about sequence of firing this particular locomotive type 😳 Heritage steam does have by enlarge good drivers and knowledgeable firemen he was the exception!!!!

The driver wants taking OFF THE FOOT PLATE BILL ANDREW WOULD NEVER HAVE SLIPPED WITH 6233 AND BILL IS A PROPER B R DRIVER

Yeah a proper driver possibly also like Bill Hoole I've commented on my view of this on here. If I was the CME some of these so called drivers wouldn't be taking a regulator ever again it bloody annoys me to see it as an ex British rail engineer.

Wheelslip isn't uncommon for a steamy on the Main Line. I would call it Steam Spectacular.

Shouldn't happen with proper training. And that air pump is bloody annoying. I know it"s necessary for the modern airbrakes. Just sayin'.
