MON FRERE! Ah man.. what a year. You know I have (and love) most of these!! U familiar with the variations you showed but it looks great. I LOVE that first renaissance album. I feel like 1969 is going to be a popular pick.. so much happy and so many groundbreaking releases. Thanks for jumping on this. You’re entered!!
Hey Alex 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed watching my entries! 90% of the songs on Les Variations/Nador are sung in English. This contest was a very good idea, Cheers mon frère
Bonjour Mike, oui 1969 était une grande année ! I didn't show too much of my obscure stuffs haha. You're right wearing a New Order T-Shirt while talking about late-60s stuffs isn't professional 😂
Hey Romuald, great to see you show Unhalfbricking and Liege & Lief. They are such brilliant albums! Lovely selection of records… lots of my favourites there. Arthur is an amazing album and one of my Kinks favourites. ‘69 was a special year indeed!
1969 was such a great year in music. Great selection. Being 16 and from small town Nova Scotia with no record store, on a trip to Toronto I purchased my first three LPs, the Who Live at Leeds, Insideoutside by Blue Cheer and Chicago Transit Authority. I always come back to 1971 as my favourite year, as it seems so many bands released their best album that year, but 1969 was no slouch. Love the Rare Bird album over your left shoulder. Great band.
Hey Dennis! Didn't know you are from the Maritime provinces. You're right. '71 was an important year for rock music too. Thanks for being such a loyal audience, Cheers
Hi FVA! What a great variety of albums from ‘69! I’m familiar with a great many of these bands if not with each particular album. I love learning more about bands from the 60s especially the prog/psych genres! Well done 😎👍
Hey Richard! Thanks for leaving such a nice comment 🙂I'm glad you enjoyed watching my entry. '69 as a musical year was very rich, indeed. I saw that you just tackled the challenge as well, though I haven't watched your entry yet. Cheers,
To me every year is the best year. There's always great stuff, but it's mainly in the underground as time goes on. Those Fairport, Kinks, Neil Young & Who (of course) records are amazing & possibly the best by the first 3. I would also add the Stooges first album to this, MC5's Kick Out The Jams & the self titled third Velvet Underground record. Nice stuff Romuald. Cheers...Ben
Wisely said, mate. Considering that about 30 or 40k new songs are dropped every Friday on Spotify, if one has not found anything, it is because one has not looked hard enough. You're right about the Stooges and MC'5. I used to have them on CD back in the days, I thing I gave them to my uncle in France. Thanks for being such a loyal audience, Take care 🙂
Great overview, Romuald: solid mix of '69 classics and lesser known stuff (to me anyway!). Groundhogs are new to me. I had fun putting together my entry for Alex as well. 🎶😎 Ed.
Thanks Ed! I'll check out your video. As I'm traveling to the Den Bosch Fair, I'm having a hard time following all the recent videos from my vc friends, thanks for tuning in, Cheers
ITCOTCK was certainly a ground-breaking record. I need to upgrade my copy. LZ I is also a fav of mine. Awesome Neil Young record, too. Nice to see Fairport Convention. There are a few here that i am not familiar with. This was certainly a great year in music!
I've been talking about Renaissance recently and showed that album not long ago. I gotta say, I like the way you pronounce the name better. ;) 1969 is such an incredible year. King Crimson and Led Zeppelin's debuts both really changed the direction of rock as you said. Great selections and excellent choice for a year!
As a Frenchman I mispronounce the English terms all the time, so I need to even out whenever there's a French name haha.Thank you for the nice things you said about my entries, Take care
@ I think the accent of a French person speaking English is usually considered charming. Unless you’re a Québécois. Then we try to imitate the accent for a laugh. (Psst. Im from Canada, eh?)
@@musicisajourney I'm originally from France, was born and grew up very close to the border with Germany and Switzerland i.e., its German speaking part (where I used to work prior moving to Canada). When I speak French (my 1st language) I do have a slight Swiss/Alsatian accent, and when I speak German people usually think I am Swiss which I am not, but just because i spent so much time in this country, sharing an office for 6 years with 3 locals, it rubbed off on me.
Hey Romuald. Such a great year. Great choices. I’m a big Renaissance fan, but I’ve never seen their first album out in the wild. Also need that Rare Bird behind you. I’m a huge Family guy, I have all their releases. Hope to find some cool French artists this month as I go crate digging in France. Cheers.
Hey Jack! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed watching my entry. I found that Renaissance debut album about 6 months ago (online purchase from Flashback Records located in London, UK). When and where are you going to France? Let me know if you need any advice on French music/artist.
I only just found out about Variations a couple of months back, and that's an album I really want to get. Unfortunately, it's an expensive import for me. But I might just set the money aside and go for it. That's my favourite Grand Funk album. And that's my favourite Ten Years After album! Bad Scene is so cool! I have a Groundhogs album from 1971.
My copy of Nador/Les Variations is an OG Press, and it took me about three years to get ahold of it, and this was back in the days when I was still living in France. It was reissued on vinyl around 2010 or so though its sound quality leaves much to be desired. I'm glad you enjoyed watching my entries, thanks for leaving a comment, this is much appreciated, Cheers,
@ I buy CDs, and I find a lot of these lesser-known albums from that time have inferior sound quality. It often sounds like it was just copied to CD from a vinyl record. It’s unfortunate that the original tapes aren’t available or are degraded. And sometimes it’s a boutique label that just reissues the album for enthusiasts without care for quality. I can imagine your OG sounds better. I hope the CD won’t be too bad. I have a CD reissue of Le Grand Jeu by the Québec band, Dionysos. It’s not only copied directly from vinyl but during one song someone must have jostled the connecting cable because the sound cuts out.
@@musicisajourney Dionysos! I was lucky to find of OG copy on vinyl of this great album during my last vacation in the Gaspe peninsula (cf. September '24 Vinyl Haul video). As a 90s kid, I used to buy quite a lot of CDs up until 2015 or so, though I had mainly mainstream stuffs in the collection. When I got into more ''obscure'' or underrated music, I never had too difficult a time finding a copy on vinyl either an original pressing or a decent reissue (except exceptions).
