It might be interesting to talk about the difference of acceptability of gay people in Japan vs America. In Japan, people like Matsuko Deluxe, Ikko, Miwa Akihiro are widely accepted as celebrities and they often appear on major TV stations. (They are biologically men, but mentally women. ) People are interested to hear what they say about social issues. However, I don't know of any celebrities of that kind in America. Also, I hear that there are many bars in Shinjuku openly run by gay people. Is this because of the difference in social attitude toward gay people?
