Like you said, while the random, day in the life type of vlogs are great for people who know you, I find the second one to be a lot better. Some of my RUclips friends over here started doing walking videos, and each one will have some sort of random climax that happens, but everybody waits around to find out what that is.

    8:25 5 C's:
9:05 CONTEXT - put your viewer into the story. What's going on? Who are the people involved? What kind of backstory do you need to tell to get your viewer up to speed so they know where the story is leading. So it's basically an introduction.
10:06 COMPLICATION/ CONFLICT - What is in the way of getting from point A to point B within the story, things that create an obstacle towards achieving your goal.
10:30 CHALLENGES - Anything standing in your way is a challenge.
11:20 CLIMAX - The resolution. Overcoming the obstacles, challenges, bumps and turns within the story
11:55 CONSEQUENCE - What's the take away such as new experience, learning, new ways of thinking...basically a conclusion of everything you've been through within the experience.
Metaphorically speaking what is the mountain you're climbing and how did you climb it?

Hi Jeven. Als always a great video; I liked that part where you summarized the 3 types of vlogging. I really like your very clear way of story telling; always to the point and you don't miss out important things. I have been following you now since 2 years and some of your tips have been really useful to me. If you ever come to Switzerland, I would be glad showing you around. We have a droners paradise here; very liberal drone laws. It's really great to be up in the Swiss Alps for droning.

Jeven, while I watch all of your "technical" videos, too, I feel THIS is where you really shine and separate yourself from other camera and film channels. I've struggled for years with the storytelling process, and it seemed like everyone explained it the same -- "beginning, middle, end" -- way, but never actually explained what they meant by that. You are seriously the first person I've seen go over specifics on how to do it. I'm now delving into your Skillshare courses, too. You have a subscriber for life, sir. Keep up the amazing work, and please know you are making a difference! 🙂

Even though I have an extremely limited audience and no real desire to be a youtuber - I do want to make whatever I do to be at least less terrible and these tips should go a long way towards that! Super relevant since it is nice enough today that I've got all the stuff ready to go and film an attempt at flying a very toy-grade drone lifting a gopro. Hopefully this one is more interesting than the last one where the drone couldn't lift it...

Super insightful breakdown of vlogs and storytelling. I've always struggled with the vlog format even though it is the backbone of my videos. Sometimes in a vlog the story can be hard to find, especially if nothing goes wrong and there aren't complications or challenges to overcome. I ride this line between being honest about what really happened and trying to up the stakes or find conflict that might not be there. This is especially the case when you are struggling to gain audience. You want to craft an interesting story, but at the same time let what unfolds in front of the camera be unscripted. What do you do in those instances when the 5Cs can't be satisfied? Does that video just never see the light of day?
