The Mouseketeer Reunion: The original '50s Mouseketeers (1980)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 окт 2024
- Hosted by Paul Williams (singer/composer). The only thing ‘70s NMMC about this show is the Mickey Mouse Club logo they used. You would think they’d have used the 50’s MMC logo. Originally aired November 23, 1980.
I cried watching this 🥲. In ‘55 I was one year old! I remember watching this with my sister as I got older. Memories. These were good times. Not like now 2023. The world is a very sad place. Indeed.
I watched this every day when I was younger. I am 70 now
Hello...Thanks for the wonderful memories...It's Oct.14,2023 and I'm 78 but everyday after school I would watch the Mickey Mouse Club. So glad I have these memories but sad that some of the Mouseketeers are no longer here especially Annette Funicello. My girls watched the next generation of Mouseketeers but it wasn't the same Bye from Ohio
Most reunion show are terrible.. I have to say this was pretty darn good.
Wow. 41 years ago and counting❗ 60+ years since the original.(!) Bobby is almost 80, and dear, sweet Annette is gone now 8 years ago❗💕😷💎.
Theses kids were definitely part of my youth in the 1950's.🎼🎯🎶💎🤗
from Rural Route 3, near Polo, illinois. middle Americana❗we loved the Merry Mousekateers❗
Although not a mousketeer, per se, R.I.P. Tim Considine.
Don Grady as well
They really need to bring back the classics like this Mickey Mouse Club. This show was the best. Why can't they bring it back.
It's now been 41 years since this aired, and it was the 25th anniversary. I was 6 in 1960 so I saw the original in reruns. It was great entertainment.
So weird to think we're farther away from this reunion that it was from 1955.
Wow! What a great piece of Disney History! What a great find on youtube! If Walt was still alive in 1980 he would be proud of the great people his mouseketeers have become! R.I.P. to all those in the MM Club who have recently passed away since this video was aired in 1980. They will not be forgotten!
I wish the 70s group would have been acknowledged at some point down the line though.
@Stephen Dobbins Well in 2005, Fred Newman, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Chase Hampton Should've been there, Because The Club got a Reboot in 1989. The Next Reunion is in 2040, #CATS2040
Jimmie Dodd, Roy Williams, Cheryl, Karen, Doreen, Annette, Dennis, Johnny, Mickey Rooney Jr., Bonnie, RIP😢😢😢😢
Tim considine too. Rip
Wow ... this was already 42 years ago now.
I watched the Mickey Mouse Club reunion it was a great show to watch evven as adults they still sing and dance to bad there growing old and not here no more i will always remember the good times when I watched the Mickey Mouse Club
I recommend the book, The Mickey Mouse Club Scrapbook by Keith Keller, which I read a year after this special aired. It was published by a Mouse Club fan the year before he died of cancer at age 28, and he really captured the nostalgia of that era magnificently.
I am just now discovering the greatness of the original Mousketeers and their universe. (Tim Considine and David Stollery...they were so cute!). I wasn’t even born when they were popular. I just watched all the “Annette” episodes which made me fall in love with the whole cast. I am going to find all the other shows like “Spin and Marty” and the “Shaggy Dog” and everything Annette has done.
I am just numb with awe after watching this. I watched the show every day as a kid. Imagine my shock when I was standing in the lobby of the Beverly Hilton Hotel when....ANNETTE came through in her wedding dress on her wedding day! SO SO beautiful. AND imagine the shock one of my best friends got when he moved into his new house in LA and there was a knock on the door...and he opened it...and there stood.....ANNETTE....telling him SHE is his new NEIGHBOR and welcomes him !!! There is truth to the words "MAGIC KINGDOM" for sure!
What a treat this is! A grand visit to back to childhood memories....Wonderful!
This was my mother’s FAVORITE program. I wish she were still here so I could’ve watched this reunion with her.
I wonder why Don Grady is not in this? One of the most famous Mouseketteers of all time.
This is beyond supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Happy 2021 Mouseketeers!
I remember sitting at our kitchen table and the MMC came from the 12' tv set in the living room. pretending the mouseketeers were sitting at the table with me. Thanks for showing a bit of Walt Disney history.
I saw this when it first aired. It further whet my taste for nostalgia that I continue to have to this day.
So many of the Mouseketeers have passed--sweet Johnny Crawford being the lastest. I thank God that there was a reunion and it was filmed so we can have it forever.
Johnny Crawford was wonderful on the rifleman. Does anyone agree with me?
Yes. I sure miss Johnny..
@@barbarachatman496 Bonni Lou Kern was the most recent.
@@michaelodonnell9756 Bonni passed back in 2020. The most recent was Mark Sutherland (missing from this special), who passed away back in April.
I've been looking for this forever!!
Me too
And now,
A historic moment!
The Silver Anniversary Celebration,
of the "MICKEY MOUSE CLUB"!
Featuring Thirty-One of the original Mouseketeers,
performing together again for the first time,
in a quarter of a century!
A time long past filled with good people and great memories. I was born in 69 so missed all the first run stuff. Didn't keep me from having a crush on Annette. She was so beautiful inside and out. A true doll. RIP to her and all those who were once kids or kids at heart. Know that I love and respect you all and thank you for just being you. I wish I had met some of you. Now Im 54 and will never get the chance.. Peace.
It was 25 years from the original MMC to this show. It's been 44 years between this show and now.
This special in 1980 was almost as far from the 1950s show as 2022 is from the 90s MMC.
My fave! The original mmc ! I will never forget it as long as I live. Those who r no longer with us rip. U r never forgotten 😢. Mmc is classic ! Thank goodness for this reunion. Uncle Walt would be so very proud. ❤❤❤
While she was one of the original Mousketeers, Sherry Alberoni might be best remembered for her work with Hanna-Barbera in the early 1970s, including voicing Alexandra on "Josie and the Pussycats" from 1970-'73 (including their appearance on the "All-New Scooby Movies") and Wendy on the first incarnation of "Super Friends", also in 1973.
Thank you for posting this---what a memory--what a show
Dennis was my favorite and am glad to see a few seconds of him here. Also glad to see Mickey Rooney's sons here, despite their firing from the show. Bobby Burgess was always the most assertive of the males on the show.
Dennis Day was murdered by a handyman a few years ago.
My mom recorded this on VHS when it first aired, and I would watch it over and over again. Love that I can relive it on youtube! Sharon getting whipped around by Bobby @ 7:03 will never not be funny to me!
"Disney Girls (1957)" was written by Bruce Johnston for The Beach Boys. The mouseketeers adopted it as a second theme song.
I watched this a few days ago (MMC reunion) and I read your comment & I just had to Google & find this gentleman. I found him, then found the only video I could find of him singing Disney Girls.
It's FABULOUS...my favorite version now, by far!!!
Thank you!!! 👍👍
What wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for posting this
"Let's hold our banner high" when reconnect with our learning about love and fun life lessons keeping, ageless Mousekeeters. Stay safe everyone!
In two more days on Jan 24 2024 the man accused of killing Dennis will be on trial. I hope the truth comes out and that Dennis gets the justice he deserves. RIP Dennis Day.
I sure hope the "Disney's Wonderful World" episode, "THE MOUSEKETEER REUNION" will be available on Disney+ real soon.
and on DVD real soon, too.
1:23 and 1:27 Today I learned that Mickey Rooney's sons were on the Mickey Mouse Club
thank you for lots of great memories. I enjoyed that very much.
I just saw Bobby riding that unicycle. I don't think I would have the guts to do that.
loved it. just the little-ist thing--I wish Karen and Cubby did their solo in the closing number. I had so much fun watching this!
If you blinked you would have missed Bonnie Lynn Fields from the Third season one of the best vocally and a primer tap dancer Mouseketeer! Sad they put her in the back! Look up Third year and see how good she is when they featured her!
Back when Annette could still do all that stuff... to me her decline is one of the saddest in television history. On a happier note, I remember Cubby drumming like that on his stool from all these years ago. I was only 4 when this aired in 1980. I think I saw it because my parents were watching it. I recall the original Mickey Mouse Club rerunning on the Disney Channel when I was in high school (competing with the All New Mickey Mouse Club) and being a huge fan of the original. My pals at school wanted to know what the difference was, which I found hard to explain. I think it was all a matter of taste, really, and I was already into anything retro and nostalgic in the 90s.
@@hilarylawrence4588 bem vindo!
Interesting that Cheryl and Doreen got dumped from the "red squad" for the reunion. Sherry only spent one year on the "blue squad" but she got her chance in the spotlight here and is very good. My favorite scene with Tim Conside is when George C. Scott smacks him around but they didn't show that.
I noticed that Dennis didn’t get to perform with his former red team colleagues either. I wonder why the three of them got so little screen time here…
How many are left today?
Looks like there were a LOT of Mouseketeers that were not welcome to dance and sing or have much to do in this reunion. The basic core of 9 Mouseketeers do all the heavy lifting and all the rest are limited to the grand opening and the grand closing of the show. And where was Jay-Jay?
How sad what was in store for Annette in regard to her developing MS and what it did to Her.
I remember watching this when it was originally on television. I wasn't around for the original, but I watched the shows when Disney reran the program. Never got to see Howdey Doodee either.
Both of my parents generation of the mmc😀back when they were 32yrs.old in 1980
I'm surprised that Cheryl wasn't in any of these skits.
The original Mickey Mouse Club did NOT contain any bizarre
comedy sketches and stunts, covers of top 40 songs and games
to play, like the 1989-96 incarnation did, when it aired on the Disney Channel!
And I watched it tonight!
and Paul Williams singing Bruce Johnston's (from The Beach Boys) song Disney Girls. Bravo! 16:40
The best years of my life were from 1959 to 1965. I lived on the south border of Brookpark, Ohio. I spent most of my time across the border into Middleburgh Hgts, that was farmlands, wide open fields and ancient woods.
Well RUclipsrs ar up to 50
Saw Johnny. Nice reunion show. Wow. So cute
Very very sorry that most of them has passed away
R.I.P. Mickey Rooney Jr.
Nice to see this time before Karen had her auto accident.
It's also amazing how talented everyone still is!
Aww they were from my mom's generation. My generation is from the 70's and 80's and early 90's also with Britney Spears,Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera!
All generations were fun to watch. It seems though the 70s Mousketeers were never acknowledged. As Lisa Whelcel put it in on of her interview videos on RUclips. It seems like that they were known as "The Forgotten Mice". And why since that was the Mickey Mouse Club that I grew up watching? It made no sense to me then and it still makes no sense to me now.
@@michaelodonnell9756 To us who watched the original MMC - the 70's version did not click. The production was not the same - Walt Disney was around for the original and I do not think he would done another version. This classic 50's Mousketeers WERE the MMC club. I did see a 70's reunion in Disneyland - nothing like the original.
Why is that nobody sherry, who nobody remembers in doreens spot with the other 8 original mouseketeers?
Okay. Who else has a mom or dad, who was in this?
My dad, Lynn. 1:51
How cool is that ✌
Don has an epic mustache.
I am amazed at how popular Mickey Mouse and Disney are in Japan.
You know that this is not all of them; there was also Mark Sutherland, Bronson Scott, Nancy Abbate, and of course, albeit for only one day, Paul Patersen.
Also Don Grady.
@@vamsm In the 1957-58 season, the 1958-59 season for first-runs; the so-called final season consisted of episodes culled from the first season.
I could see Don not being there due to scheduling conflicts but I still wonder why Cheryl Holdridge wasn't in any of the the skits though. I still can't figure that out for the life of me.
Always liked Paul Peterson
Don Grady was composing for film and television at the time. I wonder if he didn’t want to put on the mouse ears again at that point in his career.
Oh I didn't know Mickey Rooneys kids where mouseketeers.
I watched this every day and they have faces in this line up I have never ever seen or heard of. Of course I know the "real" regulars.
I don't think I would have the guts to ride a unicycle like Bobby did.
I still remember watching two movies and a cartoon for 75 cents.
Geez, Donald! You never learn. Do you?
I loved this song. I remember Art Garfunkel's version and The Captain and Tenille doing this song years later. I wonder if he wrote that song for a specific artist.
Sounds like a Glen Campbell or Bobby Goldsboro type of song based on the arrangement
Alot of the members got "The Shaft" during this.
I just totally love this!! Memories…..❤😊
This was the special that informed me of Jimmie Dodd's death. In those days before the internet, I'd have to have gone pretty far to find rescources that told me his fate.I later learned that Cheryl Holderidge(along withher then-husband, Woolworth heir Lance Reventlow who were honeymooning in Hawaii where Dodd lived) was the last Mousketeer to see him alive.
I'm really surprised that Cheryl wasn't any of the skits in this program. I still can't figure out for the life of me why she wasn't.
@@michaelodonnell9756 yeah. wonder why they used Sherry instead of her
I didn't see the MMC until it was in reruns (I was only 3 in 1955), but it was a huge part of my life. To tell the truth, Roy kinda scared me.
I enjoyed watching Bobby on the Lawrence Welk Show.😮
Paul Petersen published the book Walt, Mickey, and Me in 1977, which pretty much cemented his exile from all things Disney. He was the first of the TV Mousketeers to be banished, followed shortly thereafter by Mickey Rooney Jr. and Tim Rooney (both of whom were invited to appear in this reunion special).
RIP Annette Funicello
The rivalry between Annette and Darline was more fake than real. Annette had Darlene beat ten times over in cuteness and an attractive appearance.
1980 was no doubt a perfect reunion year since it was da same year when a group of 20 college hockey players wit an average age of 21 years old representing Team USA miraculously took down an invincible Soviet Union juggernaut on a sheet of ice in Lake Placid during da XIII Winter Olympic Games, Dale Earnhardt Sr in just his second full-time season won his first of a later record tying seven NASCAR Winston Cups, da Philadelphia Phillies after 97 frustrating years of trying finally won a World Series, great films came out including Airplane!, The Empire Strikes Back, Coal Miner's Daughter, The Blue Brothers, 9 To 5, Private Benjamin, Smokey and The Bandit II and The Blue Lagoon hit theaters, Pac-Man was released, Mt. St. Helens erupted, Magnum P.I. debuted on T.V., CNN aired its first broadcast, Operation Eagle Claw failed 2 bring home 52 hostages trapped in Iran, Ronald Reagan got elected 2 office, KFC founder Colonel Sanders passed away, Beatles member John Lennon was assassinated, Steelers won their dynasty fourth Super Bowl in six years, Buddy Baker won da still fastest Daytona 500 in history, The Eagles produced one of their last great hit Seven Bridges Road before their 14 year vacation, da U.S. led a boycott of da 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) was established plus famous birthdays included Jordana Brewster, Venus Williams, Christopher Masterson, Matthew Lawrence, Denny Hamlin, Nick Cannon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Christina Aguilera, Yao Ming, Macaulay Culkin, Ben Savage and Michelle Kwan.
Almost time for the 70th reunion
GOOD TIMES!!!!!!!!!
Did anyone know there were THREE MMC shows?!
ME AND MY TWIN ALWAYS LOOKED AT THIS SHOW❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
46:07 HE PREDICTED 2005 LOL
30:31 Darlene Gillespie ¡great!
Darlene was suppose to be the next Judy Garland. Darlene had a better singing voice than Annette Funicello.
Every day after school, that’s right! Saw it as reruns over WNEW. Still, Darlene is my fave. Some of those guys grew up to be a little tender around the edges.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Bobby wrnt on to be a regular on the Lawrence Welk show
I'm surprised Cheryl wasn't in any of these skits. What happened to her? 🤔
Yeah. and I'm still shocked they used Sherry with the leads instead of Doreen
@@aliangelettie5075 One thing you have to remember is this. Doreen was excluded from Disney related functions due to the spreads that she did in the men's magazine called Gallery where she posed nude in 1977 and in 1979. She returned starting with the Anniversary Special on Disney Channel in 1995 and had made appearances from that point forward. In all fairness, I'm sure what Doreen did was something that would haunt her until the day she died.
Three possible reasons: Except for being overwhelmingly cute, Cheryl didn't have much in the way of talent. She couldn't act (see her appearances on Beaver and Dick Van Dyke). Her singing voice wasn't much. Maybe the producers decided she wasn't up to the song and dance numbers for the principal mouseketeers. Or maybe she wanted too much money. Or maybe she turned it down because she didn't want to spend all the time required for dance rehearsals.

Where are the regulars Doreen and Cheryl ?
Doreen and Cheryl should be performing with them ; they were original mouseketeers.
9:31 preformance name?
Why wasn't Doreen part of the main cast reunion??
I cannot believe that Paul finally just mentioned Mayor Ben @ 6:23!!!!!!!!

Didn't Candice Bergen also try out at the time? If that's the case she should have been a co-host.
