Why are you so intent on slagging off the city of Leeds, no matter which City you live in there will always be "good and bad areas" if you don't like the "bad areas" then don't visit them! What do you suggest can be done to clean up the areas you mentioned! what do you suggest we do with the migrants who have moved in! i agree that migrants have turned some areas in to Ghetto's and no go zones! No one would say that Harehills, Chapeltown, Burmantofs, Beeston, Halton Moore, Seacroft are Visitor Areas, neither is Alwoodley, Adel, or Shadwell, I love my Home City, yes it could be better, it could also be much worse!
I am a disabled man living in Leeds, I am a wheelchair user & used to be able to stand for short periods on crutches, I also have autism... 14 years ago I needed housing in Leeds, Leeds City Council accepted my application, they ignored my medical requirements as a wheelchair user & an autistic man for an adapted property with no strangers to agitate my severe anxieties & put me in a shared house upstairs in Harehills...... I had to have carers come & stay in my room to carry me up & down the stairs, other residents kept leaving the main door unlocked & we kept coming down to 30 or more young drug dealers in the communal living room & kitchen using the property to hide from the police & weigh their class A drugs.... I secured the property & eventually got the other residents to start locking the front door, so the dealers smashed their way in repeatedly.... 1 morning at nearly 6am 1 of them decided he wanted to sleep on the couch, so he ran repeatedly at the door from across the street throwing himself at it until it came off the hinges & smashed the front end of my new & very expensive mobility scooter.... I got my carer to get me down the stairs & headed straight out & round to the main road, less than 5 mins i flagged down a police riot van & directed them to my home, when the police got there the youth tried convincing them i said he could stay until someone from next door came out to tell the police what he had seen.... The police arrested the youth, & although I had only been at the property for a couple of months the police informed me that shared houses in the area had been a problem for over a decade with drug dealing youths using them to hide from the police, & using the back gated streets to run from 1 to another while the police chased them using them like rabbit warrens to hide & stash their drugs when chased..... The police wrote me a note to the council telling them what they had told me, & that i was nothing to do with it but the property had to be boarded up as a crime hotspot.... I couldn't move my mobility scooter from the damage so was told the mobility company i had insurance through would be given access to recover & repair my scooter, I never saw it again..... for another 2 years i was put in similar properties, shared, stairs, violent crime, in the worst areas in Leeds..... Then the council lied to me telling me they had an offer of a place in Morley which was rather low crime at the time, they told me it was a ground floor flat & my only offer for permanent housing & would be adapted after i moved in, It had a private garden which was also a medical recommendation.... I had no choice but to accept..... after moving in I had no wheelchair access so was forced to use my crutches for years permanently damaging my joints & leaving me bedridden, the property was constantly attacked by druggies trying to rob me, & all assessments said this place which is really in Beeston Leeds can't be adapted for my needs, the garden was made into a communal garden before i even got my keys & people gather outside my windows taking drugs & trying to look in.... for 12 years i've been stuck in this property trying to be properly housed, & for 6 years I've been unable to access my bathroom & kitchen, so this year I got a housing solicitor, the council has walked all over him & he is advising a public law solicitor due to the discrimination aimed at me from Leeds City Council that he has witnessed, still trying to find one that has spaces for a case atm Welcome to Leeds folks, where the council put someone with autism using a wheelchair &/or mobility scooter in Harehills, Cross Green, Gipton, Beeston & many other dangerous & unlivable properties knowingly for 14 years, even tried blaming me for the crime that had been going on for a decade before i entered Leeds & put me on the streets for a while....
