Been using mine dampened now for about 10 days or so and I'd definitely call it an upgrade. The dampener really transforms the feel of the pedals, but it's not like a "OMG this is so much better now"-moment once you install it. You have to get used to it first and then you'll start to appreciate it.
Installed mine with the front bracket "flipped", so the dampener sits near dead straight - and I don't feel any asymmetry going on. One thing I will say about the kit is that, for my taste, the dampener could be a little softer. I have it on the lowest setting and I wish I could go one or two clicks softer still. But that's a minor gripe. I'd recommend this thing for any MFG user.

Just saw these at MFG, and wondered about them. Thanks for the explanation and demonstration - much appreciated.
You've convinced me and I've just ordered the upgrade for my V2 MFGs.
    Also ordered the Cessna pedals.

Thanks for the video. My Saitek "Cessna" pedals right toe brake broke after 1 year of use. The rudder axis still works okay. They are starting to wear out and I am in the market for a new set of pedals. I use them almost every day for GA and also PMDG & MaddogX models. I might order the MGF pedals. However, I am not sure I need the damper upgrade. What do you think?

After a few flights I would say it would be a big mistake not to order the damper with the pedals!

I've had enough oversteering in my time, Damper please.

Today I mounted this damper and I immediately noticed play/wobble around center. I can clearly see wobble over main screw at around 11 minutes,I have same version of pedals, i am thinking what to do now. I can feel and hear this wobble when flying helicopter in dcs. Somethin is not right there.( Screw is moving about 1-2 mm back/forward when transitioning from one side to another) it is very noticeable

Yes, I think I can see what you are referring to in this video. It does not happen in the re-uploaded version of this video, and pulling out my pedals for a look just now it doesn't happen. I can only presume that when I mounted the damper first time I did not have the axle tightened up properly, or that th ebearing was not seated correctly. Perhaps you can check this on yours. The damper mod adds nothing except a little bit of length to the shaft (screw), which doesn't seem enough to introduce any wobble.

@@sureshot234 everything is fine, it just needs to be very tightened, no wobble now. Instructions said do not overtighten...I could not estimate the right amount of force, i did not want bearing to brake.

You seem a little unimpressed on first use, any further thoughts after a couple of weeks?

    • @AlmostAviation
      @AlmostAviation  3 года назад +5

Not unimpressed, the damper makes a huge difference even as it is. However, I have corresponded at some length with both Milan and the designger of the damper mod and it is clear that the odd lop-side feel is not by design, it is because I most likely have a faulty damper. A new one is on the way and I will re-edit my video after further testing.

@@AlmostAviation Sounds promising. As this mod seems like it will solve the momentum issue where the centring force easily overshoots, I think I'll have to order the kit.

@@HobelDcs I think I described that in the video. It doesn't feel the same in both directions. If you displace it from the centre on max damping and let it go, one one side it does what you expect and on the other it just pretty much springs back to centre.

it is a hydraulic damper, looks like a steering damper of a motorcycle. they should have used the Öhlins version.. ;-)

I have both the v2, and the v3 plus damper. The damper works really well, and does a good job eliminating that flip you sometimes get when going from one rudder extreme to the other.
I have the damper set to 15, and the spring was loosened right off,the tightened up about half a dozen turns to let the damper offer more of the resistance than the spring.
      I love it.
