I met Elizabeth Sladen at a Dr. Who convention in LA back in the late 70' She was completely charming and graciously danced with fans at a nightclub after signing autographs all day
Super!
That's cute! Thank you for sharing that story. I can just imagine a young Elizabeth dancing at a nightclub in the 70s 😍😩

I want to know from Dr who viewers , is dr who made for kids. Is the persons watching, supposed to be kids. Please answer what you think. Thank you.
The greatest Doctor and Companion. The standard by which all others are measured.
Absolutely. They are unmatched.
💯%!
I'd love to see a modern episode done with the special effects from this time period.
The effects were OK.
"Special Effects" blue dyed water going down the kitchen sink drain! !!!
They have been upgrading the effects on different episodes. Given how popular this episode was it should make the list eventually.
Oh, not me. That was what put me off the series back in this era.
You hear that, Chibnall? Kris Ryan Stallard wants a remake of "The Masque of Mandragra," and so do I!
16:23 "You can't count, Count." 😅 I'm glad the Dr. pronounced that last word as 'Count'.
*R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen*

Compressed the entire adventure into the length of a single episode. Neat trick.

"My shampoo and body cleanser going down the shower drain..."
As a kid, I watched the series but sometimes hiding behind a pillow because some scenes were way too scary for a 6-year-old boy. Great memories though.
We were tougher in those days.😊
@@londonlady1966 oh God were old...
What great nostalgia this brings 😍😍
I was the same lol
I was about your age may be 7. I was very frightened by Dr. Who in the 1970s. Apparently, Peter Hinchcliff had worked for Hammer House of Horror films and injected the genre into the Who programme. I liked his assistants, Sarah Jane Smith and Leela. Marvellous growing up 😊
This story features the introduction of my favorite classic console room.
Thank you for putting this classic up for everyone. It is really appreciated. Love it.
Are you dumb this is awesome
"You can't count, Count!" Love that part
"C'mon don't stand there, I'm in the market for Congratulations!" So many great quotes
Tom Baker is the Doctor Who of my era and the greatest Doctor Who as far as I’m concerned. Jon Pertwee comes in second.
Very true
Agreed. The definite article, you might say.
Sarah Jane was so lovely.
Will you shut up about Sarah Jane. It is seriously annoying, yea she was a companion, yea she's dead, get over it.

You haven't seen her eat the banana 😏
HOORAY! This underrated gem getting the attention it deserves
I have the DVD of this one and I enjoy it. Can't understand what a lot of people don't seem to like about it.
Love that console. Shame it wasn’t around for longer

The location filming for this story actually took place in Portmeirion, which is better known as The Village from Patrick McGoohan's tv series 'The Prisoner'.

@@Paul-wl1yh It’s not a ripoff
There's a Dr Who audio book called "Beautiful Chaos" that follows "The Masque of Mandragora" story, read by Bernard Cribbins. Starring the David Tennant Dr and Donna Noble! Well worth a listen.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info
There is also another series that follows up on masque, but I fear telling you it’s name as the connection is the twist
I’m liking these classic who short clips, keep them up!
Especially these types of ones that are the stories in 30 minutes, Please do more!
And allows them to edit history and make the stories seem a certain way if they want to if you catch my drift
Who?
You know it takes watching these to understand what the Doctor means when he says, "No one ever listens!" It's exasperating!
I remember watching these my grandmas old orange black & white tv, good times
"That's blue paint spiraling down--I mean that's the Manragora Helix."
I’ll say it now, whoever dislikes this is a dalek or a cyberman
Looks like a Dalek has already struck.
"DO NOT BE SO MEAN TOWARS THE DALEKS"
I wonder if Sladen have had some training in woodwinds like the clarinet...note how she unconsciously did the reed-moistening on that recorder. They don't have reeds, but someone with the training would have that habit whenever holding one. Putting herself in that position might trigger her sense memory.
It certainly triggered something in me

I just bought this story and honestly it's one of my favorites already. been a fan of this series nearly 9 years as of right now and I have many stories to watch and buy
I’m so happy to have watched this. These older Dr Who shows are wonderful. I hope to see all seasons of All the older Dr Who’s
Sad that it wasn't the whole thing. I could tell the moment new characters appeared and weren't introduced. Still good that I saw an episode of classic Who though, when I wasn't even born at the time it was first aired.
Love this story. Really grown on me over the years. Some great performances from the guests, some of the best in the history of the show.
Really enjoyed this cutdown, it was really enjoyable (easy to watch while doing homework but it's nice to watch the full thing when I have time 😭)
I am watching this because I grew up with the modern era and always wanted to try the classics
My very first Doctor! ♥️
The very best Doctor! ♥️
Not my first but definitely my favourite. Started with the first doctor but passed on the last. Not interested in a female doctor as it seems too much like ‘anything for a buck’ programming.
Me too...my first doctor.
Water Down the Drain, a Sparker and CSO - Classic Who SFX at their finest!
Only Tom Baker episode I havent seen. Until now. 21:34...First time I saw him do awesome karate kick!
I'd rather watch it unedited. Bit difficult to follow with bits missing.
Agreed - this edit is just butchery
@@TheFinalMinutes Check the description. Instead of uploading a bunch of scenes separately (which they did anyway), this video is a compilation of their favorite scenes.
Also, 3/4 of the story missing isn't "bits"
@@Caroniver_Robocacci totally see where you're coming from :) i'm upset that the average youtube browser would be put off watching after seeing these highlights - it really does butcher the story IMHO. Stay safe! x
@@DrWhoFanJ ill take my comment down.
I love the way she plays with that flute and then puts it in her mouth at the start. Nice one.
21:34 🤣😂 He straight-up booted that guy. Good old 4, always willing to throw down if the occasion calls for it.
I really liked this one. It was Hugh spirited, the energy was high, the music and cinematography were above average, the guest performers were enjoyable and I dug the designs of everything from the SFX to the masks themselves. Fun fact: there’s a novel and an audiobook that acts as a sequel called Beautiful Chaos.
Watching old TV is like a sort of time travel.thats u back to the time when u first watched it.
A time capsule of a bygone era
Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen are part of my childhood, hard to believe so much time has passed :(
Its Great to watch Dr Who Again
I loved Dr. Who as a child in the 1970s. I was about 7 years old, and I did get really frightened. I really enjoyed his companions, Sarah Jane Smith and Leela. Tom Baker is unbeatable in my opinion. I think Peter Hinchcliff worked very skillfully to inject the horror genre into the show.
Possibly the best Doctor Who story ever. A criminally underrated gem!
Agreed 👍
The best ever Doctor Who Stories are at the other end of this season (Robots of Death and Talons of Weng Chiang)
It’s a good story but sorry not in the top 5 of the Tom Baker stories let alone classic Who let alone new Who.
Pretty good series for 1976. Entertaining.
I think this is the most love Masque of Mandragora will ever get: bask in it while you have the chance
Is that suprising? It's hardly a classic. Of course I'm willing to listen to an alternative viewpoint but it seems more like a fun holiday in Portmeiron for the regulars than a story that the production team put a huge amount of effort went into. There's hardly any narrative tension and the dialogue is only sporadically funny so it falls into the underwhelming camp of being neither very comedic or dramatic.
If this is “love” then I don’t think any story should be subjected to this “love”. This is a shoddy re-edit.
@@TheFinalMinutes It's BBC Enterprises trying to encourage people to buy the full DVD. Fortunately there are places on the web where you can rip off the whole classic series.

damn Time lordz and Timeladies I'm likng the clips put together to make this 30 min video
Such an underated story!
Look at how Sarah Jane works that flute 😉
0:15 - 0:26
ok condensing the story into 30 minutes is actually kinda a cool idea, hope more stories get this treatment
That'd be awful. Appreciate the classics the way they are. Then maybe watch the cliffnotes version
@@danielsleeper2307 If it makes you feel better, I have seen this story in full
I have to disagree - this is a disgusting and disrespectful abuse of the hard work by the original production team. It’s AWFUL.
@@TheFinalMinutes yeah it's just not very good of them, it'll hurt the reach (and sales I suppose) of actual full classics they do this to (and probably of britbox, why give them the classics then?), and as with britbox forces you to go through current day Doctor Who branding to see it with the RUclips channel and that horrible and jarring reminder of Witchaker's face and voice at the end. And it's a cover for them to edit history and edit the stories into something they weren't to perpetuate a certain narrative about them if you catch my drift?
Mandragora Helix aka blue paint going down the drain. The sfx budget was lower than Tom's daily lunch budget
No expense spared on the special effects once again! I can imagine the read through now.
OK folks our first spacial disturbance encountered by The Doctor and Sarah is the Mandragora Helix. It is something really large and powerful. We really need to sell its intensity and scale. Any ideas?
*Someone stirs their cup of tea.
Ahhh Haa!
loving these shorts takes me back to my teens ,old who keep up the good work
I always loved Sarah’s outfits.
I miss Sarah
She was beautiful...
underrated story this one - looks lovely
..And season 14 is on re-release!
I agree. This stuff is the bomb!
Loved Tom Bakers "come get some" eyes and expressions. Man was Classic Who the absolute best EVER!!
This story works better as a 30 minute episode. I feel at 4 parts it drags a lot. You could go from part 1 to part 4 and not miss much.
These sort of stories were my favourites from Toms era. Historic setting with a Sci Fi Horror element.
So not only has the TARDIS got a separate more simple control room it also has a second exit
Those were good times back then in Britain. The seventies and I enjoyed the series and theme music at the end.
9:51 The Worshipers of Demnos do the Hokey Cokey.
I'd forgotten how brilliant this was.
That tardis was kinda sick especially cause it was different from all the rest at the time
Isnt it just another room in the same tardis?
@@tinkercrab11 yes but, I think he meant the 2nd tardis conrol room rather than a 2nd Tardis
@@mrjekyllandhyde9941 In the episode the Doctor described it as the secondary control room for when the main control room was disabled. Quote "I can control the TARDIS from here just as I can from the old one...come to think of it, this IS the old one."
Face of Evil and. Robots of Death please....
Loving these "taster" edits....
The first time I watched this, on YTV in Canada, I used to think this was originally played daily like some sci fi soap opera.
I love Tom Baker's ad at the end. That man is amazing.
Tom Baker is a real awesome actor. Iit's to bad they still don't use him more in the new adventures of Doctor Who. There is no reason they can't use him. He still awesome actor at 86 years of age.
There absolutely is a reason
Doctor who is a very physical role that an 86 year old simply couldn't handle
That's why he does audio adventures
@@Yetaxa also it’d be weird that the doctor looks so old even tho that incarnation was young
Tom does show up on new who albiet his roles are vocal he has such an awesome voice. One example is David Tennant encountering the devil that voice is Tom.

I can't remember if someone already has, but is there a video of the isolated music from this story, that and Sarah's last but one story, always makes it one of my favorites.

"What's that?"
"It's the wife running away another of her luminous Lush baths..."
Thanks to pbs found the dr. Tom baker love the show
Great video
Notice the long stretches of time with no dialogue whatsoever. That’s something that literally NEVER happens in nu who, in which the writers seem to think there’s some rule of television that says characters must never stop talking for even a moment.
I used to run home from primary school to watch
This show scared the heck out me as a kid.
Sarah: Doctor what is that?
Doctor: it’s the kitchen sink, but someone appears to be pouring blue paint and soap particles down the plug hole!
