Have you ever missed an old friend so much that you find yourself re-reading old conversations and going through old photo albums, just waiting to hear from them again. And then finally it happens, and you're so excited and relieved and you just never want the conversation to end? That's what hearing this song felt like. I love you Relient K, I've been a fan for 13 years. Here's to the next 13.
This makes me emotional. I didn’t even know y’all came out with another album. Back when I first went to college in 2008 I was listening to you guys all the time but over time I backslid in my faith and was close to actually calling myself an atheist. Jesus was always there waiting for me to come to my senses, to repent, to break, to cry, to start over. This is the first song I’ve heard of y’all’s since I’ve been beginning to walk with Christ again. Thank you for being such ana amazing band, the best artists I’ve ever heard. I saw you at warp tour 2008 btw and shook y’all’s hands. One of the highlights of my life lol.
I love what you said about repentance!!!!!! The most important step to get closer to God is repenting!!!! Don't be afraid people to repent. Jesus is just to forgive!!!!!!
This song is great for two reasons. First it is just a sweet song, and second it sounds nothing like collapsible lung. Hooray for a return of Relient K sounding like Relient K.
+Michael Hogue Personally I quite enjoyed it. I think it's important for artists to stay fresh and try different things even if it means some of their older fans disagree, otherwise they may themselves become stale and unenthusiastic, and we don't want that for Relient K :( But it's all about personal taste in the end.
me and my Wintergaurd team is doing a dance to this song!!! It's about looking up from our phones and being present and the theme works so well with this song! I love it!!
I can't believe this has been out for four years and I just now found it. It's timing was impeccable, this is exactly what I needed for this point in my life. I've been listening to Relient K for nearly 20 years and the lyrics never fail to inspire and uplift me.
Relient K I will always support and follow you, you've been in my heart since I was 12 and now I'm 22. You've been there through breakups and falling in love and being confused and making decisions and feeling terrible and feeling wonderful. Every song of yours is an old friend of mine. Soooooo in love with this new release already. I can feel the love in it. I LOOOOVE YOU RELIENT K
I saw Relient K perform this live during their MMHMM 10th anniversary tour, and it was magical. Matt said it would be on the new album, only for me to find out that it wasn't. But that's okay, 'cause I just bought it and set it as Track 17 on Air for Free :)
I remember when a photograph was worth a thousand words A thousand words Now a thousand pictures come my way, every day And I like them all the same, but they can't take my breath away I'm fighting the temptation not to look But I'm still leafing through the pages like the world's my open book Why don't I got something else to do? Feeling trapped behind the viewfinder to share it all with you And that's not what it's about I'm so tired of missing out I look on up to the sky I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes I look on up into your eyes It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life I look on up, I look on up To the sky Have you ever tried to photograph the moon? Well I have too, I have too Find it funny how it never turns out right It's like someone poked a pinhole in the canvas of the night And that's not what it's about I'm so tired of missing out I look on up to the sky I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes I look on up into your eyes It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life I look on up, I look on up 'Cause it's a Nick Drake Pink Moon seeing the pines In the Pacific North West for the first time I cannot believe my eyes Yeah, I'm singing out loud in the middle of the night On a balcony in Brisbane looking up into the sky Into the sky It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life I look on up to the sky I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes I look on up into your eyes It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life I look on up to the sky I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes I look on up into your eyes It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life I look on up, I look on up To the sky Have you ever tried to photograph the moon? Well I have too, I have too
I am so in love with this. it's the reason why I will always be a reliant k fan...lyrically and musically brilliant. God has always used your music to speak to my heart. ❤
This makes me so incredibly happy. Relient K got me through the rough times of high school, and continues to get me on into adulthood. I couldn't be more proud of you guys. Seriously.
Saw them play this while opening for Switchfoot a few years back. It was my first real exposure to them, and I was floored. Such a beautiful and powerful song with an awesome message. Look on up!
I had 10 years old the first time I listen to your music ... Now I'm 22... I can say that I grew up with you guys and love your music... I cant wait for your new album release... Love from Romania
Hey. I hope this comment finds you in a better place. not really sure what else to say, but your comment struck me in a weird way. I'll say a pray for you.
Hey @Relient K just want to let you know I was able to arrange an 18-hour layover in Brisbane, just so me and a friend could go sing this song on a balcony. Love you guys, quality music for nearly two decades.
Nice double meaning of the word "devices". Dive a little deeper into the meaning of the song and the lyrics and you will see that the definition of "devices" that Matt is referring to is "a plan or scheme for effecting a purpose". In other words, he's putting away his own plan for his life and looking up to God for His plan.
+ianlotts one reason why I have enjoyed this band for so many years is the way the "disguise" the Christian lyrics. The way they use words in this group is unbelievable and quite refreshing. I don't mean disguise in a bad way, but for many of their songs, you won't find the true meaning of the lyrics unless you dig deeper and I love that about them! Thanks for pointing that out!
+ianlotts Thanks for your observation! Assuming Matt wrote this himself? Hope he goes back to doing that ... CL wasn't terrible, but it wasn't classic RK because it wasn't written by Matt himself. He's an awesome writer.
I love their lyrics because a religious person can interpret it that way, and a non religious person could just look at it as to just start living life through actual experiences instead of our memories of pics and videos.
I grew up on their Five Score album. I love their early stuff, even the awkward stages. I'll be honest, every single album they spit out (even collapsible lung) brings tears to my eyes because this is a group that genuinely loves to make music that means something. Forget and not slow down will always be on my mind until the day I die. And every time i notice how beautiful the moon looks, and consequently think of taking a picture, I will always think of this song.
I'm pretty sure he meant Brisbane, AUS but there is a Brisbane, California which is an Oceanside city so looking off of a balcony in Brisbane, CA would also make sense. Again pretty sure he meant the one in Australia, not America
got to hear this gem of a song when they were in maryland last year. brought me to tears. love you reliant K you are a true inspiration for my worship and music. stay blessed
As I sit here pulling an all-nighter for Physiology I peek on facebook for a moment and see your post sharing this. Awry with excitement I immediately play it and close my eyes, put my head on my book and all I can do is contently smile while listening... Beautiful. Thank you for making this long night 110% better!
"Have you ever tried to photograph the moon?" And Relient K just shared a photo of a mini lil moon on facebook this past week. I love sneaky things like that. :3
A few days ago... I went for a night run, kind of late. It was beautiful, it was snow flurrying a little, the sky was intense and the moon was absolutely brilliant. So brilliant, that I was getting ready to stop and try to take a picture of it... At that moment, I realized that I'd never heard the song that was playing on my headphones at that moment, but it struck me, and made me stop reaching for my phone. I didn't take the picture... I just continued to run, and used my eyes to soak up how beautiful the sky was... I found out what the song was after my run, since I had never heard it before. It was this song... I've been a Relient K fan for 20yrs, and I have NO clue how I'd never heard this song. ANYWAY - Sometimes, you hear the right thing, at the right time, and it lets you have a meaningful moment. (Side note: I was playing Spotify radio based on Yellowcard's "Fields and Fences" when this song popped....)
I was a great fan in 2001 then i back slid. Coming back in 2016 to memories and friends and the muso's associated with them like RK. This gives me strength to find my prime roots and follow the same lifestyle and following. Thank you.
I will never get tired of listening to Relient K. So many memories created from a good amount of their songs. I hope they keep making music so I can look forward to each new album.
Saw these guys for the first time last night in Cleveland at House of Blues - wow! Really enjoyed the show and this song was a highlight. Now if only my wife and kids would 'put down their devices' :-). Cheers
This instantly transported me back to your show in Portland (shout out to the PNW). It was amazing then and even better now that I can listen to it over and over again. That was one of the best nights of my life. Seeing you live has been a lifelong dream of mine. Thank you for being you, Relient K.
Goosebumps the whole time listening to this. I can't believe it's been over a year since I saw them play this live on their Mmhmm anniversary tour, and yet it still has this familiarity and peace about it, as if I just recently heard it!! That is a sign of incredible song writing, and I can't wait to hear more. Go RK!!!
Don't ever go RK. We need you to make music. This hit me hard, maybe because I had a bad day yesterday, but that doesn't change how true your words are. I'll look on up.
I know that people were hating on CL when it first came out, myself included, but let's be real. I have that sucker on repeat 24/7 more than their other albums these days. It's fantastic, and manages to tell a true story that most 'christians' are too ashamed to admit in their own lives. Isn't that the point of Relient K? They've always been 100% real in their lyrics. Either way. This sounds amazing, and I can't wait for Air For Free. I'm buying that sucker the moment it's available for pre-order.
I think I speak for everyone when I say listening to your Relient K's music is truly a blessing, and I look forward to everything you guys are going to produce.
Thank You Relient K, you guys have painted beautiful word pictures drenched in the emotion and music for years so i can now see life in its beauty and ugliness, Thank you. through it all: a fan.
It's April 8, 2024 in Ohio and we're going to be in the path of totality of a solar eclipse today. The next one for us won't be until 2099. This song is going to be playing in my head. Not gonna try to take a picture and just enjoy the view we're privileged to see.
Oh my gosh, has it really been 2 and a half years since the last Relient K release? Wow, It is so unbelievably refreshing & uplifting to hear something new from you guys after all this time
definitely a lot of change from their early years with the last two albums, but this song is a little more reminiscent of their early work, but with more maturity and depth. definitely excited to hear more!
'Cause it's a Nick Drake Pink Moon seeing the pines In the Pacific North West for the first time I cannot believe my eyes Yeah, I'm singing out loud in the middle of the night On a balcony in Brisbane looking up into the sky Into the sky *This whole part: the writing, the syncopation in the way it's sung & the melody of it, is all exceptional. I think it's the best I've heard from you guys. I used to listen to your song "Jesus I pray take all my mistakes" when I was in high school and it really used to touch my heart back in those tumultuous teenage years. God bless you guys.
This is BEAUTIFUL. I knew when I heard it on the Mmhmm tour it would become one of my favorites! It sounds like you guys are returning to your old sound, and I'm in love!
Best Valentine's Day present ever! I saw you guys perform this in slc and Vegas and couldn't wait for the day you released it. I loved this song the second I heard it.
I think the greatest thing about Relient k is how they always come back as something new. I've always enjoyed them and they're the first band I ever really listened to. Everytime they've released a new album they were just a little different and it hit me where I was in life. I've enjoyed everything they've released and to me they're the most diverse band since the beetles. can't wait to enjoy the new music.
Relient K, you guys are still awesome. Matt T, I'm no longer religious, but your vocals/voice are/is still my favorite ~13 years later, and I listen to you guys on occasion just to hear you sing (Dave as well).
Yay!So happy for something new! You guys are the only band that's lasted with me as I've grown; been listening since 8th grade and I'm now 27. We played The Best Thing at the end of our wedding, and now our kids listen and sing along with us. I'm so excited to add some new stuff to the list!I love you guys, keep growing and making awesome music.
+Cortney Schmitz I often think of "The Best Thing" when I think of my boyfriend. That song and this new one transport me to such a happy place. "The Best Thing" makes me imagine that I'm looking out the window of my car after it rains in the summer and everything is glowing and shining in the sun. The clouds are puffy and little dewdrops on the grass in a big field...like a breath of fresh air. I am so happy for your family and I hope beautiful things come your way and more wonderful music from Relient K for us all! So glad someone can share a love, specifically for that song.
this song reminds me of all the great times with my former girlfriend..we were forced to break up due to unfortunate circumstances.. but I still think of her constantly. she was certainly my best friend..still love you baby girl
I just saw you guys in Grants Pass, Oregon last night. WOW!! What a amazing night! Thank you, Thank you so much. I must be honest I bought the tickets for my son, but he had to work. So my husband and I went and even though the venue was very crowded, Your performances were amazing , just so AWESOME!! I am a huge fan now and I hope you come back to our area soon. You guys ROCK!!! Bless you!!
YES! It's been too long. I've missed your voice Matt! It's so good to hear something fresh and meaningful from you guys! Can't wait for the next album!
You guys are the first band I ever really loved. Your fun style grabbed me as a kid and the serious songs helped me grow in my relationship with God. I love your fun songs, but if you guys made a whole album with more serious and more truthful songs like this that would be so amazing. This and Getting into you hit me hard. Can't wait to see ya'll in September at Farmington!!
30 year old with 3 kids, fan since album one and am a fan of this song. Love it. Whatever you do will probably be wonderful. Would not be sad for an album full of this downtempo stuff.
All I can say is it's about dang time. Forget and Not Slow down is my all time favorite album. It was composed so well and was just beautiful. I have to admit I was dissapointed with Collapsible Lung. It had a few good songs on it but just didn't have that depth that you guys had developed over the course of your careers. I've held out hope that you'd be back with vengence. This song renews that hope. Looking forward to more guys!
I heard this song for the first time yesterday and all I can say is WOW!!! This song speaks on so many levels, thank you for sharing this beauty with us!
Thanks for the support guys, love ya 4real ❤️💯
I just love you guys.
+Relient K Thank YOU for feeding my ears!
+Relient K love you guys thanks for making the best music ever
Is this an indication of a new album?!?!
can't wait for the album guys!
i'm crying
Me too Jordan, me too
+Jordan Taylor It reminds me a lot of your latest video
me too!!
Love your vids Jordan! and Relient K
+Jordan Taylor I NEVER KNEW YOU LIKED RELIENT K?????
Have you ever missed an old friend so much that you find yourself re-reading old conversations and going through old photo albums, just waiting to hear from them again. And then finally it happens, and you're so excited and relieved and you just never want the conversation to end?
That's what hearing this song felt like. I love you Relient K, I've been a fan for 13 years. Here's to the next 13.
this is the relient K i fell in love with as a little kid.
+blaketheberry Exactly what I was thinking.
THIS IS YOU. THIS IS RELIENT K. THIS SOUNDS LIKE RELIENT K. THIS MAKES ME SEE LIFE LIKE RELIENT K.
How is your faith walk going these days, friend?
This song is great for two reasons. First it is just a sweet song, and second it sounds nothing like collapsible lung. Hooray for a return of Relient K sounding like Relient K.
Couldn't agree more. CL was pretty bad.
Agree!
+zabimaru4866 I like to think of CL as an experimental album in terms of sound. Don't Blink and Collapsible Lung were both fantastic.
I liked Collapsible Lung
Come Back To Seattle, Wa for a show like the old Days. We miss you guys here in the PNW too!!!
me and my Wintergaurd team is doing a dance to this song!!! It's about looking up from our phones and being present and the theme works so well with this song! I love it!!
I can't believe this has been out for four years and I just now found it. It's timing was impeccable, this is exactly what I needed for this point in my life. I've been listening to Relient K for nearly 20 years and the lyrics never fail to inspire and uplift me.
they've been around forever, I hope they stay around forever.
Same, haha. except I was 10 and turning 22 so soon
+elaini larks absolutteeeellly me too :) I'm happy they helped you so much as well
*scrolls through Instagram
NEW RELIENT K?!?
*is immediately transported back to Matt Thiessen playing it live
So good guys. Excited for another album
+Matt Fitzgerald same exact thing jsut happened to me! haha
+Matt Fitzgerald I found Mattchootube omg
I like your initials. Your last name is legit too.
Mason Fitzgerald I always knew I had a twin.
PLEASE, I NEED ANOTHER ALBUM!
I saw Relient K perform this live during their MMHMM 10th anniversary tour, and it was magical. Matt said it would be on the new album, only for me to find out that it wasn't. But that's okay, 'cause I just bought it and set it as Track 17 on Air for Free :)
Forever one of my favorite lyricists. Please never stop doing what you're doing.
I remember when a photograph was worth a thousand words
A thousand words
Now a thousand pictures come my way, every day
And I like them all the same, but they can't take my breath away
I'm fighting the temptation not to look
But I'm still leafing through the pages like the world's my open book
Why don't I got something else to do?
Feeling trapped behind the viewfinder to share it all with you
And that's not what it's about
I'm so tired of missing out
I look on up to the sky
I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes
I look on up into your eyes
It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life
I look on up, I look on up
To the sky
Have you ever tried to photograph the moon?
Well I have too, I have too
Find it funny how it never turns out right
It's like someone poked a pinhole in the canvas of the night
And that's not what it's about
I'm so tired of missing out
I look on up to the sky
I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes
I look on up into your eyes
It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life
I look on up, I look on up
'Cause it's a Nick Drake Pink Moon seeing the pines
In the Pacific North West for the first time
I cannot believe my eyes
Yeah, I'm singing out loud in the middle of the night
On a balcony in Brisbane looking up into the sky
Into the sky
It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life
I look on up to the sky
I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes
I look on up into your eyes
It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life
I look on up to the sky
I wonder why I put a filter between beauty and my eyes
I look on up into your eyes
It's time I put down my devices and I start to live my life
I look on up, I look on up
To the sky
Have you ever tried to photograph the moon?
Well I have too, I have too
looking up to 2023
this makes me feel so so so old but so so grateful that one of my childhood favorite bands is still kicking it
Us too haha
I am so in love with this. it's the reason why I will always be a reliant k fan...lyrically and musically brilliant. God has always used your music to speak to my heart. ❤
Didn't realize that Collapsible Lung came out over 3 years ago! So glad that you guys haven't retired the band yet after 17 years.
This makes me so incredibly happy. Relient K got me through the rough times of high school, and continues to get me on into adulthood. I couldn't be more proud of you guys. Seriously.
I've been waiting so long for this! I'm super hyped for the new album!
ME TOO!

This song is literally keeping me alive today. It's insane that someones music can keep me going.
Hey. I hope this comment finds you in a better place. not really sure what else to say, but your comment struck me in a weird way. I'll say a pray for you.
God loves you and I do too, praying for you!

I'VE WAITED 7 YEARS FOR THIS! so keen!!
Love it. Absolutely yes.

+Elliott G Same here brother! Cheeooo
+Elliott G Queenslander Relient K fans unite!
I thought I heard Brisbane but want sure! Maaaaate!
I'm pretty sure he meant Brisbane, AUS but there is a Brisbane, California which is an Oceanside city so looking off of a balcony in Brisbane, CA would also make sense. Again pretty sure he meant the one in Australia, not America
This song gives me chills! Thank you to continuing to make wonderful music.
got to hear this gem of a song when they were in maryland last year. brought me to tears. love you reliant K you are a true inspiration for my worship and music. stay blessed
Love it. Really has that spiritual sound as well as a feeling of Forget and Not Slow Down.
Glad to hear some new stuff coming from you guys.
They got it so right, they nailed it, right down to taking pictures of the moon. Thanks RelientK. Love it.
Relient K is back.
As I sit here pulling an all-nighter for Physiology I peek on facebook for a moment and see your post sharing this. Awry with excitement I immediately play it and close my eyes, put my head on my book and all I can do is contently smile while listening...

Mmhmm was by far their best album and this is giving me acoustic vibes from that
heard this live at my first relient k concert and it will always hold a spot in my heart
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR THE STUDIO VERSION OF THIS SONG YASSSSS 😍👌🏼

It's April 8, 2024 in Ohio and we're going to be in the path of totality of a solar eclipse today. The next one for us won't be until 2099.
This song is going to be playing in my head. Not gonna try to take a picture and just enjoy the view we're privileged to see.
Oh my gosh, has it really been 2 and a half years since the last Relient K release? Wow, It is so unbelievably refreshing & uplifting to hear something new from you guys after all this time
There is a Relient K for every situation I have ever been in and I am obsessed with you
definitely a lot of change from their early years with the last two albums, but this song is a little more reminiscent of their early work, but with more maturity and depth. definitely excited to hear more!
man I used to think I could not love Relient K songs any more than I already did but ... this song is amazing. thanks, Relient K!
Beautiful... Heard them play this on the MMHMM anniversary tour a while back so good to hear new stuff from them!
'Cause it's a Nick Drake Pink Moon seeing the pines
In the Pacific North West for the first time
I cannot believe my eyes
Yeah, I'm singing out loud in the middle of the night
On a balcony in Brisbane looking up into the sky
Into the sky
*This whole part: the writing, the syncopation in the way it's sung & the melody of it, is all exceptional. I think it's the best I've heard from you guys. I used to listen to your song "Jesus I pray take all my mistakes" when I was in high school and it really used to touch my heart back in those tumultuous teenage years. God bless you guys.
YES! FINALLY!!
Been waiting so many years for an mp3 version of this!!!!
This is one of my favorite Relient K songs… I don't know why, it just hits me.
It's a shame this song won't be on the new album because it's a beauty.
No doubt. And hey man random thing, but you know those Coke bottles with people's names on them? I found one with Hassan on it a while back haha
I first heard this on the Mmhmm tour in Haw River, NC. It is a stellar track! Very excited for the new album!! Thanks Relient K
A gig in France would be my dream ! You guys are amazing. Keep going ! love
This was the best part of my week. And my birthday was 4 days ago.
+Corey Burkhardt it's like RK gave everyone an early/late/maybe on time birthday present
+Daniel Flores I prefer to think that they gave us a bang-on-time Valentine's Day present. It's the most beautiful thing we could have asked for.
Emma Crago
They LOOOOOVE us! :D :P
+Daniel Flores They do. And we love them too :)
Beautiful song. I can see the light now. Thank you Relient K for such a deep song...
I'm speechless. i literally cannot even think of any words to describe all the emotions this is giving me. i love you guys so much.
Ahhhhhkkkkkkk. This is one of The best songs of ALL TIME! Can not express how this has encouraged and directed me! Thank you!!!
Relient K, you guys are still awesome. Matt T, I'm no longer religious, but your vocals/voice are/is still my favorite ~13 years later, and I listen to you guys on occasion just to hear you sing (Dave as well).
Maybe that was the problem, Jesus doesn't want your religious commitment, he wants relationship with you! Flee from your sin and embrace Him.
Great song. Glad to see the spiritual side of Relient K coming back
Yay!So happy for something new!
It's good to have this feeling back that only Relient K can transmit. Glad you're back!
Their lyrics are always so true and relatable! I love Relient K forever.
This is beautiful, guys! I'd buy an album of this kind of music in a heart beat.
this song reminds me of all the great times with my former girlfriend..we were forced to break up due to unfortunate circumstances.. but I still think of her constantly. she was certainly my best friend..still love you baby girl
tears falling from my face. love you relient K!
Thanks RK for this awesome Valentine's Day present! Super excited for the new record!
You're gonna make me cry RK.. Can't wait for this album.
I have been looking forward to the release of this song for over a year. I am glad to finally see it up and listen to it :)
Can't wait to see ya'll in September at Farmington!!
best valentine's gift ever! oh my dear relient k this song is lovely and my love for you endless ❤😚
Absolutely beautiful.
Look on Up guys. Live your lyrics. God bless you guys. Let Him be the one that guides your faith, and breathe.
Awww heck yes. The best only from K. Thanks for a more indie feel like the music from Forget and Not Slow Down.
Not sure why but the line “have you ever tried to photograph the moon? I have too, I have too.” Just hits me so powerfully! I love this!
New song of Relient K, my favourite band since 2005! It is certanly a good day! :D Thank you, guys, for never stop making great songs!
I heard this song for the first time yesterday and all I can say is WOW!!! This song speaks on so many levels, thank you for sharing this beauty with us!
