    In a former life, I cut professionally, part-time, for many years. It was mostly during the time when Dutch Elm Disease ravaged our area, and comprised maybe half of our business. We were licensed with the city who would pay half the removal cost for diseased elms.
    The abundance of firewood and high heating costs started a craze for heating with wood. Everyone instantly became self proclaimed lumberjacks. There were many serious injuries, and lots of property damage. I've seen stuff that would even make Paul Bunyan cringe.
    I'm so glad to hear you are running classes. Insurance and Workers Comp rates are a testament as to how dangerous this type of work can be.

    Picked up a 400 w a 20" bar back in August and that's been absolutely enjoyable to run. The vibration dampening is amazing and more that enough to do what I need.
    Also testing Pfanner Ventilation chainsaw pants. I've enjoyed them down here in the South (West Tennessee) nothing will be comfortable in the summer but these are really nice.

    Oh man! I have nightmares about putting my saws on the ground and running them over. I'm actually looking into a way/place to mount a chainsaw scabbard on my machine for when I'm jumping on and off to buck and limb the work I'm handling.

    On bore cuts .when you find out the tree is hollow do you always follow through or change depending on the tree?

    • @cotontop3
      @cotontop3  2 года назад +2

      Just stay the course. If it’s a heavy side lean tree you better regroup and you may have to adjust.

    How long do you usually get out of a round file chisel saw chain before you have to discard it from sharpening?

      @@cotontop3 I get about 6 months out of mine is that seem right or am I filing to much?

    • @ToddAdams1234
      @ToddAdams1234 2 года назад

      File life, as with most things, is dependent upon circumstances. I’ve had 1 file last for 3 chains (rare) a had to use 3 different files for 1 chain. BTW, all the same brands of file then the same brand of chain. It’s going to be dependent upon where the damage is, how much material at once needs removed from the chain, the circumstances in which the wood was in (clean or dragged up & full of rocks). Besides, chronicling by “time” isn’t the way to measure file life. I use a new file whenever the one in question starts to “skate” on the chain. If you do that (or sooner) you’ll realize just how nicely a new file works.
