@rjbonacolta The fight choreography was based on a combination of fencing and kung-fu. They employed a little refined stabbing, and a lot of showy slashing.
Competition: 5 mins and first to set amount of points Hollywood: 15 minute duel someone gets stabbed CUT *both walk out* Real: Two grown men go out face each other only one returns! Real fencing *used in duels* Has a completely different rule set.
I don't understand why the director went with this ladder gimick. It's getting in the way of displaying some serious swordplay. The point of having two good swordsman in a movie is so that you can see some good moves like in Rob Roy where it was just two guys in a hall. The swordplay speak is entertaining by itself. I don't know why Hollywood feels the need to dilute it with all these gimmicks. I watch the Three Musketeers to see swordplay not freaking ladders!
Hello Oxygen, my name is Eric Ryder and you did a spot on clip of "The Musketeer". I hate to say this but I did not enjoy this movie as I found it to be complete insult to the legend that is Alexandre Dumas. Peter Hyams and company totally revised the story making everything completely awkward. The acting was horrible and the ensemble was badly miscast. The costumes were okay and the setting of France were what I expected to be with the mud and debris in 17th century France, but that's all the praise I can give it. I don't think the fight scenes were that good. Why did they replace Renaissance fighting with Asian style fighting? And too many props and ladders and dark, narrow halls making the fighting scenes hard to move around at times. There's more I ranted about this movie but these were some of the things that made me angry about this movie. Please come over to my channel. I have a review on "The Musketeer"? I'd like to know what you think. Okay? Thank you and keep up the good work.
Is this how Fencing works? No. Is this awesome and badass? Yess
1:40 funny thing about the ladders, we can see they can be easily cut with their swords, but yet they don't snap under the weight of both swordsmen
Aside from the flips and ladders bs this is a great sword choreography. Intense, fast and pratical swings.
@PublicICON The choreographer was Xin Xin Xiong who was Jet Li's stunt double for Once Upon A Time in China. This is a homage to that fight scene.
@PublicICON I thought it was from Once Upon a Time in China 1.
Very nice battle. I personally prefer the version in the 2011 movie, but this was is also very cool.
