The metaphor of the fish is something like - They fight because of their circumstances. If they were free, they could be peaceful and happy. While the fish are trapped by aquariums, Rusty and the others are trapped by society and povery. I adore the work of S.E. Hinton. Her work really resonated with me in my youth.
They also represented something about the Motorcycle Boy being able to see the fish in color because he is colorblind in the book, another reason it is in black and white.
Coppola at his most artistic, Matt Dillon at his most dramatic and Mickey Rourke at his coolest, in my opinion, so many young actors , saw Nick Cage in Valley Girl at the theater same year a few months before Rumble Fish was released, saw at the theater also, what does it all mean? Not sure but I know I liked it from the first watch, Coppola said he wanted to make an art film for teenagers, said he was reading Rumble Fish while he was filming The Outsiders and went right in to it upon completion of that film, Mickey Rourke was so cool back then , soft spoken had a presence of a well trained and practiced actor, knew what the hell he was doing , Tom Waits running the pool hall, William Smith the policeman, Vincent Spano as “ Steve” of course if you watched a lot of 80s movies he starred in the classic “Alphabet City” from 1984, always thought that was such a cool movie or maybe he just looked cool in it , haven’t seen in nearly 40 years but back then I liked it , also Herb Rice the black pool player across the bridge who told Rusty he would never be like Motorcycle Boy, he was in Apocalypse Now with a standout scene using his grenade launcher to take out an enemy combatant, and when was asked if he knew who was in command, his reply “yeah” classic scene, thanks Showdown always enjoy your reactions! 80s ruled the box office
Yeah bruh. He made The Outsiders then he made Rumble Fish 2 weeks later. The guy playing Biff Hayes also played Tim Shepard in The Outsiders. That was also "the Roach" from Apocalypse Now he was talkin to in Cains Ballroom
I was 11 at this time and I loved every one of the movies based on S.E. Hinton's books. You have Tex and That Was Then, This Is Now left to watch. Also, I would love to see Little Darlings and My Bodyguard on the channel, two more Matt Dillon classics from my childhood. Glad to see you back, Showdown, love to you and your family.❤
I can't believe I just saw a reaction to this movie! It's such a cool little weird movie. It's not perfect but like you said: it's so well-shot, and there are so many great actors in it, you can't look away! The music is from Stewart Copeland, the drummer from The Police, so that adds a whole other thing to it. It's even got Tom Waits in it, and that was some of the best parts of your reaction, the Tom Waits parts! I like this movie a lot better than "The Outsiders", and I also liked it a lot better on repeated viewings. I love that Copolla did this little "indie" type movie. Scorsese did a similar thing around the same time, he made a cheap, "indie" comedy with spectacular cinemtography (and another stacked cast) "After Hours" in 1985. And another "weird", cool, wild comedy with a great cast from the same time period, "Repo Man". Great hanging with you, as usual!!!! Super psyched to see a reaction to this one!
Stewart Copeland of The Police composed the music and plays guitar, drums ,and bass . A perfect musical accompaniment to masterful cinematography. Cinematic majesty accomplishment
The nerdy guy is basically the author of the book. Hes taking notes of everything going on. In the end of the book they bump into each other on a beach in cali i think as adults and rusty is in a bad way as always, says he doesnt remember even half of their time as kids.
There is also Tex, with Matt and Emilio. I love that there are so many overlapping actors that it feels like an author sticking the same faces into different stories.
I cannot believe I didn't remember Nic Cage and Dianne Lane being in Rumblefish 🤯 Another great adaptation of a great S.E. Hinton novel. Rumblefish is a powerful book.
This is one of my favorite matt dillon films some of the actors that are in this film are also in the Outsiders. You'd have to read the book to understand this movie Rusty-James is supposed to be 14 or 15 years old
Yooo, I cant believe you got around to doing this one! I remember commenting on the outsiders. Trippy movie right? Captivating though! Since Im feeling lucky Imma tip Bullet 1 more time. 1 of my all time fav movies and fav Pac/Rourke vehicle. plus Ted Levine what?! Not many reviews/reactions/watch alongs for that!! Hope things are doing a little better on the personal front! Good to c u back at it!
@@PopcornReactions nah thank YOU for the after work entertainment! And if you don t mind me saying: just for yourself watch the fast and the furious, los bandoleros and fast and furious (im that order) and wonder why they got the Rock and went into space (which is what Im doing right now). My Bodyguard!! That's a good one!!
Nicolas Coppola's first movie. Uncle Frank put him in it. Francis said he was shy and nervous during the orgy scene.

That's an interesting observation about the nerdy guy and Rusty's encounter. It adds depth to their characters.
This is one of my dad's favorite movies, it's so stylized and interesting.
Rumble Fish is another S.E. Hinton book adaptation. The others being The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now

@@LordVolkov I forgot about that one. I believe I've read all the books and watched most of the movies.
That was then, this is now was a great book! The movie was okay too.
I cannot believe I didn't remember Nic Cage and Dianne Lane being in Rumblefish 🤯
Another great adaptation of a great S.E. Hinton novel. Rumblefish is a powerful book.
Love your show. This is my favorite film all time. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Coppola's daughter Sophia as Diane Lane's sister Donna.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It's always great to hear from fellow fans of Matt Dillon and the Outsiders.
Fishburne's character, "Midget", is Hermes or Mercury from mythology; messenger of the gods.
Loved this film as a kid, watched it so many times.
Your review was actually straight dope. Good lookin' Smokey
thanks!
If you notice Roach from apocalypse now is in the pool table scene telling him that the motorcycle boy is royalty in exile.
I saw matt dillon a d thought outsiders then saw a young nic cappola and realized
I watched this movie once many years ago. I also read the book. I like The Outsiders more, though this movie is good, too. Its style is different.
Lawrence used to be in the motorcycle boys gang.
I'm so happy to see you Show! For whatever it's worth, you've been in my prayers brother.
Thanks Eddie!
Fight choreographed by the same person who choreo'd "Beat It".
yup Michael Peters

This is when I first saw Nicolas Cage and Vincent Spano. We all looked a lot better back then.

You already know!
I still consider Red Dawn to be the sequel to The Outsiders.
Ever seen young '80's Sean Penn in "Bad Boys", bro? A forgotten fukn MASTERPIECE! It's a shame no one reacts to it!
See ya, MC!
🤘🌎❤
classic
Theres a rumor that Steve is not real.
love this movie
Cop used to fist fight Eastwood.
Any Which Way You Can' awesome movie
To me, it seemed like it really tried to convey a message.
But it got distracted.
I gota watch it again
Came up with this movie. Somehow I doubt Gen Z watches cool shit like this.
This is awesome it gives me Kung Fury vibes! 🍿

Showdown !!!!
Great reaction to an ok film.
Hi Popcorn, please consider reacting to the moving My Bodyguard 1980 starring Matt Dillon. You would be the first one to do it.
Late to the party?
