Matsuo Basho: The whole mountain was made of massive rocks thrown together and covered with age-old pines and oaks..... I felt the purifying power of this holy environment pervading my whole being.
He was 50 years ahead of his time. I would imagine him now as a performing Professor of Ethnomusicology, playing concerts and composing movie soundtracks.
There is something about this recording that is especially good to the ears. The way its played and the way he sings it. A song very dear to the heart.
jm neilson after hearing Visions of the Country i fell in love with his music and needed to know more about this guy. it utterly broke my heart when i read about his death. absolutely mind blowing musician
Yea, sorry , I believe that to be wrong, It is not the instrument that is "fussy", Beautiful wood, by its very nature settles down into a playing that is in fact not , "fussy" rather, it allows you the player, to be free in both sound and playing...a free guitar allows for a player to be free.. I would love to play this free guitar.
Segovia complained of the problems in his custom made guitars. Wood and metal vary constantly. Age comes to all. Only the magic of a great creator endures.@@ljg7777
well, i can't certify to that. i believe that he started with flamenco. but he DOES seem to be holding something in his right hand. &&& seems to alternate between bass & treble notes (vs. pinching both with a fingerpick style). i yield to a higher intelligence!@@theopenmouth9695

I am there, and lovin it, Quiet, only nature and the infinite, thank you fellow twelve stringer.
a complete and absolute genius
I love this live version even more than the studio version, the distorted tape sound gives it otherwordly features.

Absolutely stunning. I'm mesmerized by Robbie's playing.
Mr Basho, fortunately, missed a career as an opera singer. I'm so glad he chose the brief path he followed instead, as he's inspired me since 1968...
Pure genius
What a gorgeous sound!
Robbie and John Fahey are very likely having a good time
"This instrument is over 115 years old. It's a bit fussy". Epic.

It's what you make your instrument as an artist. Robbie made it to something very personal and unique.
This specific guitar was eventually found after his death.
It is an unplayable wreck.
Ponder that as allegory.
