Contrary to Popular Belief, CBD Makes Marijuana Stronger

- The second most important compound in cannabis is cannabidiol (CBD), and most people will tell you that CBD is the gentle Yin to THCs paranoiac yang. Hence your local ganja barrista reminding you that, if you don’t want all those anxiety-inducing side-effects of THC, grab a strain with a nice CBD balance.
But… is it true? A new study appearing in JAMA Network Open suggests, in fact, that its quite the opposite.

640 mg is crazy for 1 cbd ingestion even ingesting that much CBD alone will induce what some call a mild body buzz I feel like this study needs to be done in a way to represent the normal active marijuana user
Exactly
Definitely. That is macro dosing levels. I got a discount on a high quality CBD product when I worked at a neurologic place and I had an injury so I used it as an excuse to see what taking over 1000mgs of CBD for 3 days in a row would be like. It definitely gave me a buzz and more than the total 10mgs of THC that it came to. I felt extremely tired even after a full nights sleep. I would take it at 5pm and it would start to kick in around 7pm and I could be in complete sleep until 7am
I am a normal user of CBD flower and this video is full of bunk
CBD has some 5HT1A receptor interactions (the same one psychedelics act on). Also check out the video titled "THC & CBD Experiment". There's also an older video of a male subject doing the same experiment but I can't find it anymore.
@@corneliusthecrowtamer1937thats why cbd improves neuroplasticity, without inducing a trip
I think the experiment needs experienced cannabis users as a control group. Individuals inexperienced with cannabis tend to experience the paranoia and anxiety.
Cbd does not make thc stronger. 😅😅😅
And inexperienced individuals in general are also prone to that, so while what you say is true, it's not really exactly the cannabis. (But that's kind of your point I think)
It depends on the ratio really
The problem is just like prescription meds, each person will experience different side effects.

Boy, for me, CBD dulls the effects of THC. When I add CBD to my session, edible or dry vape, I don't really get high or buzzed. Just mellow and relaxed.
Exactly the same, I get the high without any anxiety. I do 4:1 ratio.

640mg of CBD is like a whole bottle of the stuff, way too much!
I do not understand why such a high dose of cbd was administered in comparison to the thc!
This may have had an effect on the delicate balance of effects in the endocannabinoid system
Yes that much in one sitting is foolish.
Yes that's way to much
Yes, these researchers are morons. And why would you test at only one arbitrarily high dosage instead of multiple?
The best tasting and most euphoric relaxed high ive ever had was from a 90% sativa strain called chocolope, only has approx 24%thc and 0.5% to 1% cbd.
Since everyones body has different regulatory factors it may actually mean you need a specific balance of these canabinoids for each individual to optimise the full desired effects.
Many drugs can have the opposite effects by the same amount of substance when given to different people
I call BS on the study to an extent... If I am freaking out from too much THC, I will take a vitamin B1 and a CBD gummy to pill the paranoia and eventually the entire buzz, reducing it to a manageable but much more comfortable experience.
That's not the experience I had 😂. It gave me the opposite effect.
For me
CBD will make the body high worse, but will make the head high better, the head so much more clear you could think u're not even high but you are still
I would like to see that study redone with reasonable levels of THC, like what would be ingested from taking a few puffs of cannabis that was 1-3% THC. That's representative of how people used to consume cannabis before these insanely high THC strains were developed. The cannabis was mostly grown outdoors, wasn't heavily manipulated, and had a more natural balance of cannabinoids. I think another missing component is the terpenes. People used to have to consumer a lot more cannabis to get a psychoactive effect, meaning they were also consuming a lot more terpenes, which are probably the source of a lot of the beneficial effects of cannabis. I just feel like this study is kind of like giving people a double shot of everclear and trying to extrapolate the effects of that to all alcoholic beverages in general. And obviously that study would have way different results if you just let the people sip on an IPA or glass of red wine. It's like they say, the only difference between poison and medicine is the dosage, and everything is a poison at high enough doses. Considering we've been as a species exposed to cannabis with THC around 1.5% for the last like 10k years, and then all of the sudden here we are with weed with THC levels 30% and higher, it's really no wonder things are going sideways. And yea I know, people have always had concentrates, but again, as the quantity of THC goes up, the quantity of CBD et al and terpenes goes up proportionately, and thus the ratio is maintained. I've personally had concentrates made from nearly non-psychoactive cannabis (i.e. cannabis with THC in the 1-3% range and CBD in the 30% range), and it is indeed a very different experience. It is psychoactive in the concentrate form, but it's very relaxing and there's no anxiety or racing heart. It's almost more of an opiate like feeling, but without the nasty opioid side effects. I had hydrocodone from a doctor once and the side effects were worse than the pain that it didn't really do a very good job of masking anyways.
Very, very well said.

I have only dabbled with cbd that has low thc range but recently I took 75mg of cbd with a 2.1 thc in total does of thc and I did get worsen symptoms like affirmation and even some anxiety once I realized I was getting agitated and not all effective making a police report and officer got triggered lol 🤣.. other times I have had 1.8 thc and 50mg cbd and I did get more sleepy relaxed I felt a little nauseous in both cases but I felt like I was going to throw up in both but more when I had higher doses of cbd like everything hit harder … than at 50mg of cbd .. I had to ask where I got them to figure out the gummies had thc micro does of 1.5 thc when I have cpstd which it’s not recommended more than 6-10 … if the effects of thc where double when I took 50mg of cbd and then triple when I took 75mg of cbd then 3.6- 6.3 was my range of thc experience and above 3 nausea is no bueno .. but I like the cbd effect more than the thc im going to try the 1.5 thc with 25mg solo and see the effect next week to give some time or month from now i think im stick to cbd .. i have
I would like to add something here I agree 100% I suffer from cripking anxiety.. to the point I really shouldn't smoke ... Or I should be way more selective won what strain I use bc normally it all ends in a panic attack. HOWEVER this led me to smoking small amounts where I wouldn't even get high but I was still experiencing the negatives. But I'm emotionally triggered person and one day I was upset and I just didnt care I smoked a lot more and you know what happened I had a please t time. So now when I smoke I go untill I feel it a little and then I'm usually ok not always but a good 65%-70% increase in pleasent experinces. So this has led me to believe that terpines and flavanoids have a impact on that buzz and there also a study that shows the terpines of lemonene has a therpedic effect on anxiety so just food for thought

i second that question, seems like an intuitive metric to look at
I recollect hearing that CBD with a pinch of THC enhanced CBD benefits.
I never looked into the studies though.
What I learned about thc content is that it is just a factor. It was said that when the terpenes combined with thc is responsible for the high. When the aroma of the flower is intense like the common skunk aroma, that will land you a good high. I smoke low thc hemp called The White CBG. It has the lowest thc profile with only 1 thc anchor compared to others that have 2 or more. It has a good aroma. Though low in thc, next to 0%, it offers a pretty decent euphoric effect. In fact, I had a new strain of cbg hemp. called New London Gold. The aroma is on par with skunk, and it is exceptionally the best hemp I ever had. At one point, I thought they slipped me actually marijuana. It wasn't as when I took my home drug test, I passed. So don't be concerned with the thc content. You are looking for how they say the good, which is a flower that has a potent oder.
THC is a factor but terpenes don't get you high. They relax you and relieve pain. This is a psychoactive effect as it is effecting the brain and mood. Being high is intoxication which effects decision making and movement. Psychoactive and Intoxication are not the same thing. Terpenes are also what gives plants their smell and the fruits on them their flavors
I found a strain that had over 50% CBD and 24% THCa; this gets me super baked without the overthinking.
None of these edibles are recommended for people with stressful lives and mental health issues. The effects are too strong and cannot be stopped for hours. Stick to smoking a little bit few times a week to experience relaxing effects. Don’t do it every day or you’ll get dependent on it quickly
Micro-dosing gummies works. 10 mg spread out over the day is actually good for anxiety and depression in many cases. Moderation is the key.

640mg is a 32:1 ratio. when people talk about THC/CBD strains, the ratio is 1:1
Thc and cbd alone mean nothing. Its all about the terpene profiles, the terpenes provide the desired effects.
You can have a high thc strain that has a calming terpene profile or one that has high energy terpenes

Well, I have a prescription for Medical Marijuana in Texas. They gave me a 1:1 THC/CBD oil. I took it one time and was absolutely scootered for like 18 hours 😂🙌🏽🥴. Smoking pure flower is nowhere near that potent, at least in my experience so I think he’s pretty spot on with this.
1:1 for me does nothing. Makes it a lame high. Kinda like 3minutes after a cigarette

Its the ratio of the 2, they synergize but also counteract. Cbd is an antagonist of the receptor where as thc is a partial agonist. Both thc and cbd will cause both to more effectively reach and use receptors but yet they have counteractive actions
I own a cannabis brand and i have gone through ALL research we have on all noids and receptors/how they individually interact as well as how that changes in combination. We need more but we actually have more research on cannabinoids than 90% of pharmaceuticals. the federal govt actually has owned the patent on cbd since around the time ssri’s were started as it was one of the competing effective investigated compounds. Because pharma and govt is pro synthetic and anti grow your own medicine There are synthetic pharmaceuticals that are patented versions of thc and cbd. Marinol and epidolex. at the same time this happened the govt had classified cannabis as a dangerous illegal drug with no medicinal use….. obvious corruption. But anyways, focus on land race strains for medicinal consumption. Chasing thc numbers leaves you with an unbalanced effect void of all its important pieces. You want as much cbd, cbdv, thcv, cbg, cbc and cbn as possible in your smoke. All of these noids both enhance each others effectiveness at receptors while balancing each other. Thc, cbn, and cbc all seem to be partial agonist. Cbd and cbg seem to have antagonist effects varying between cb1 and cb2, and the thcv is very interesting because it used to be a major cannabinoid in high thc strains but it is an inverse agonist of cb1 having effects opposite of the thc we are used to. Thcv strains seem to have major applications for parkinsons and diabetes i highly recommend reading the researxh
My CBD comes in 10 mg gummies. In a bottle of 60 gummies, the entire bottle contains 600 mg. This study says they gave a 640 mg CBD dose? In other words, 64 gummies which is more than an entire container? Something is not right.
640 mg of cbd is A LOT! If they had done a 1:1 of cbd/thc, 20 mg's of both, it would have been super enjoyable. But for in experienced, I'd recommend 10 mg's 1:1 at first.
After watching this - my wife and I are going to stick to CBD ONLY lotions for pain !!! We were contemplating getting a CBD lotion with a small amount of THC added due to some folks on-line touting the additional benefits - but thanks for sparing us the bad idea. We have both had great success treating our muscle and joint pain with moderate-dose CBD-only lotions...even tho we were both very skeptical that it would work !?! This is because of our preconceived aversion to anything that resembled "pot" plants...we were just very anti-drug and still equated anything CBD to "pot"...we understand now we were mistaken. That said , we KNOW that CBD genuinely worked because we didn't expect it to...yet it did !!
I ate 50 mg THC CBD 50/50 and it seemed less powerful to me then 25 mg THC so I believe it does have a calming down effect on The receptors.

I mainly smoke real cannabis with mid - or high-grade THC. I've been smoking cannabis for a year now, and I would also do delta 9 or delta 8 edibles throughout the time. There was even one cannabinoid I did called THC O. Unfortunately, it is now illegal due to its vitamin e acetate when added to thc from hemp or marijauna. Overall Cannabis has changed my life in a positive way. There's so much more that we can all learn about from cannabis plants.
Vitamin E acetate was an e-liquid ingredient (alongside others like propylene glycol) primarily found in black and grey market vape carts. It isn’t produced in the synthesis of THC-O, which was made federally illegal because it doesn’t occur naturally.
@jacobmiskomusic precisely and vitamin e isn't even found in normal vape juice to add to what your saying. Vitamin e was used as a thickening agent to what was usually at the time distallite or even bho based extracts that were cut with peg,pg, or vg's making them runnier but add the vitamin e and wham bam you got you got it thick man. And sell those carts with stretched out oils for more profit. Vitamin e is not so common anymore even in the black market carts n pods, too many caught on.

Completely Misleading, these results are only applicable to eating. It’s completely the opposite for inhaling
Someway somehow the effects of THC are being modulated by the presence of other cannabinoids. Inhaling a concentrate vs a strong strain vs a ton of shwag are all tangibly different experiences (you might smoke a ton of the latter and feel little different than light headed if it’s bad enough).
this is good, because we learn more about cannabis in its different forms of use, I believe that this reaction is only in edible use. I believe that this study can be useful for us to understand this plant more and more.
Exactly. Edibles are incredibly potent so if you have a bad trip it’ll often take more than CBD to mellow it down.
Edibles matabolze to 5 hydroxy THC so it's different in a few ways, one being potency and also duration of effects so maybe the CBD also alters when ingested ,and then combined they would certainly produce effects not nearly the strength or effect of smoking a combo of the two.
Interesting. What do think of kratom? I haven't checked out the rest of your yet but will Dr. Wilson.

I question why you are only interested in getting high.
Why didn't you choose a study of CBD effects on the body other than getting high?
This is still important research. The vast majority of people who use THC do it to get high, and a big part of the marketing and pseudoscience peddled by dispensaries involves potentially misleading claims about CBD "modulating" or "smoothing out" the high from THC. Knowing what's actually happening is important.
As far as I know, most CBD studies that look at its other effects have only found significant results when the doses are far, far higher than most people ever consume, let alone purchase. That research is important too, but it's proving to not be nearly as useful or profound of a result. At least this research will be more actionable and relevant to most actual cannabis users.
Also, why can't he cover both? Why is it one or the other? lol
